For those of you ready to Carry That Weight and swing Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Harmonix and MTV Games released the full "Abbey Road" album download today for The Beatles: Rock Band. Rather than simply release the songs, the DLC comes with new animations for the four British gents and, in some cases, new "dreamscapes" (the pseudo-psychedelic animations tripping our your friends while you play songs).
The trailer above offers a medley sampling of the whole album, should you not be acquainted with it. But then, we must ask, what planet are you from where "Abbey Road" is an unfamiliar album?
"Harmonix wanted to see your determination for The Beatles by releasing a Queen 10 pack on the same day."
Bingo.
I mean, Queen is priority over everything pretty much, but The Beatles is a damn good challenger. I bought both immediately. You win this round, Harmonix.
I know I am evil... I bought TBRB from Gamestop. I should have resisted, but I am weak. I wanted to get free songs (which they have not sent out the email for. Has anyone else got it?) so I made a deal with the devil...
Now that I have seen the full medley (thanks corporalgregg3 on youtube), I am trying to decide if I should just bite the bullet and buy the whole thing.
Memory limit issues were quoted on the forums as the unofficial reason for the lack of one-song-Medley. Other than that... You can still buy the full album. Just not in a pack... Yes, not as convenient but well... better than nothing I guess.
The Wii has 512 MB of internal storage. My copy of Abbey Road comes in at just shy of 60 MB (encoded at 128 kbps). Therefore a Wii should have enough storage space for it.
There's also the possibility that you really do mean memory (i.e. RAM) in which case the Wii has 88 MB. Still enough to store the entire album at one time in RAM and would likely be enough to also run the game.
Even assuming there is a technical limitation for playing the album straight through, why can't we just give them our money so we can download all of the songs in one go? I'm trying to pay you Harmonix!
Seriously? 20 MB/song? That's huge! But hey, then it would make a little more sense. Still doesn't answer why I can't just buy them all at one time though...
"[W]hat planet are you from where 'Abbey Road' is an unfamiliar album?"
Aside from the name recognition of the album's title, I'd wager at least half of Joystiq's audience doesn't know its lesser-known tracks. So what? Why the gibe?
Yeah, as a matter of fact, the name and iconic photo/cover is the only thing about Abbey Road that I'm familiar with. Most of the tracks I will be hearing for the first time via this DLC.
I guess that's what happens when the only Beatles CDs you own are 'Sgt. Pepper' and '1'.
Why? So you'll be shamed into getting the album and listening to it as soon as possible; which would be of great benefit to you. Joystiq dishing out the tough love.
Just like most Beatles songs, I'm willing to bet most of the tracks will be instantly recognizable when you hear them. Whether it's intimately or not, I'm willing to wager that most of the Joystiq audience (none the less everyone else) has heard most if not all of the songs on this album in one way or another. Either way, it's a joke! If such a thing offends you, please accept my apologies.
I can seriously watch the videos released for this game all day. I just love looking at it and hearing it. Oh right, playing it is awesome, too. But I like having others play while I sit and watch. I can't say that about many games.
I think seventeen bucks is overpriced. (Like everything else on the marketplace.) It should be free for gold members, they're already paying in the first place, and come on... Why in God's name do gamer pictures, themes, and avatar clothing cost money?
Because with the songs comes new animations and dreamscapes, each song is probably bigger in size than the average rock band dl track, does anyone know or have a guesstimation on the size of each song and/or the whole downloadable album?

I'm still upset about the fact that Wii owners can't just buy the Complete the Album pack. WTF Harmonix?

1 Rockband songs are a lot bigger then MP3's. Most I have on my 360 are over 20MB each.
2 that ram is kinda being used to play the game so only a small portion of it can be used for whatever song you are playing

They cant make it one for memory issues, each song has to be separate I guess on Wii they dont have a way to give you multiple files for one purchase.
Fane [A-MF Brigade] @ Oct 20th 2009 10:01PM
@Quiggy The songs have to be multi-track rather than stereo and there's other data attached as well...plus they're probably at a much higher bitrate.

Daniel @ Oct 20th 2009 3:11PM
Her Majesty is to short, if they did that, we would see more than 60% of it.

Try FCing Her Majesty on Expert Bass. It's so hard.

hmnnnn not nearly as dreamscapey as I thought it'd be... oh, n how about the band, Dreamscape? They're a cool little German Dream Theater knock-off.
