Though it was sniped by critics, Hitman was a smash at the box office, raking in $100 million in theaters plus another $80M on DVD. Emboldened, producer Adrian Askarieh has a full slate of Eidos films in the works, projects that he recently discussed with GameDaily.
His main focus right now is a Just Cause film, which he's producing independently, so don't be surprised if it doesn't quite hit that same level of Hitman polish. Look for that to start shooting next year. Also next year, Kane and Lynch is finally set to start filming in March -- after plenty of false starts -- with Bruce Willis in the Kane role. Finally, there's the Hitman sequel, which Askarieh said may need a new lead, as star Timothy Olyphant is filming a new show for FX. Though Askarieh said he'd like to get Olyphant back, we can't imagine why when Richard Moll is right there.

I hope in the sequel he speaks less. His presence is good enough.

I think the only way this could be a good franchise is if they don't make any movies.

Vin Diesel was actually first to get the role but something happened so Timothy got the role. Vin still produced it though. LOL!
Anyway, I'm a big Bruce Willis fan. I think he could make a good "Kane. I just hope the movie is better than "Surrogates". That movie was meh... What happened to Billy Bob Thornton getting the role of "Lynch"?

You don't want Vin Diesel but you think Jason Statham is a good choice? The guy is like the Keanu Reeves of driving movies. Just terrible.

Which one of those fellas is Kane? Hopefully the guy on the left, cause Bruce Willis looks really dumb with hair any longer than that.

OK Cool. I still plan to pick this up on the cheap someday, but judging solely on appearances I'd like to see Peter Stormaire as Lynch. Or Steve Buscemi.

I think Steve Buscemi would be a better Kane than he would Lynch, but Peter Stromare is PERFECT for Lynch

I'm going to get as much mileage out of the one VG review I did for my site as possible:

I still thought the story was unique despite this, I mean, for a film adaptation it would okay, right?
But then again we are talking about a videogame to film adaptation so chances of it being decent would be slim anyways.

Hitman was quite possible the worst video game film adaptation that I have ever seen, and I actually liked the Silent Hill movie (mostly.) Beyond the mountain of problems that I have, the one that really sticks in my craw is Olyphant, an actor that I generally like (anyone see GO?) I just...ugh...thinking about makes me angry.

I loved Silent Hill. It may not have followed the story perfectly (who wanted to watch the dad get sweaty and run around? Not me), but it was closer than most other VG movies, and it sure did capture the eerie atmosphere of playing that game.

I have seen many video game adaptations. Many it's just because I love the Hit man series, in fact it's one of my favorites.

@Avatar
I agree wholeheartedly. The fact that it used the game music, and recreated actual scenes and camera shots from the first game carved a place for it in my heart.

I, for one, actually had a total blast playing through Kane & Lynch.
Then again, I played it local co-op with a friend and blazed through the game during an all-nighter and didn't expect much from a rental.
Honestly, I think some people just take some games too seriously but I can see why people would be pissed off if they spent $60 on it brand new.

I bought it brand new, played solo, and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I'd like more games of its type, with heists and high-tension escapes. It was great in Uncharted 2 and the heist mission in GTA4 was also fun. I'd like a game made up entirely of heist planning/execution/escapes.
Granted, the game sorta slowed down when it hit south america or whatever, but I found the characters to be interesting and the story was engaging.

Also for some reason it seemed most negative reviews had problems with how many times they said "fuck". Meanwhile, Gears of War 2 = GOTY

The only good thing about "Hitman" was Olga Kurlyenko and that sexy red dress. I could watch that woman sit on a couch for 2 hours.

I really really was looking forward to Kane and Lynch but the demo was so disappointing for me. I guess I could probably pick it up real cheap now. I may go do that.

There's only one guy who can play this role the way it's meant to be played - David Bateson, the voice actor of Agent 47. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bateson

Recasting seems like a poor idea. The problems with the first film lied less with the lead role and more with the script anyhow. Build on what you have established. Improve on what you did right and throw away what didn't work the second time out. I hope if Hitman 2 does happen, Olyphant comes back. Less dialogue, more cold, more detached - sure, but don't go recasting. This isn't James Bond and I'd like Hitman 2 to feel like more than a DTV sequel with a fresh, albeit crappy face.

Another Hitman movie? I wonder which obscure TV show they're going to steal from for stock footage this time around.

Okay, has Bruce Willis starred in one good movie this century (Sin City, aside)?
Kane and Lynch was a mess of a game. It'll take a serious re-write and practically ignore the events of the game after the first 3 or 4 stages, and a great director (or a lucky one) for this to have a chance.
The idea and characters are decent enough to be worthwhile, but I'm not holding my breath...

Movie reviewers had better be careful when the Kane and Lynch movie comes out - they could lose their jobs over a few honest but unfavorable comments.
