City of Heroes must be pretty vacant right now...

Aside from the 'sellers and hackers, of course...

The fact that it's an MMO is off-putting. If it was a well-polished RPG, then probably.

Question: would you be more inclined to buy such a game if it was an RPG rather than an MMO?

Yep, I swore off MMOs back in 2003, haven't touched one since.

i read "not enough missions" and "grouping is not a huge focus" in one of the reviews and that was enough to keep me away. And I loved COH

Missions part is true. They are adding more, but the DAY 1 XP nerf was stupid. The re playability of the game right now is not very good, as you have to do all starting areas not to run out of quests. And well I find it is not very immersive, there is a real disconnect with the missions and everything.

But you are right CoH was better, but this is just more action packed and fun to kill a little time, not to really get into IMO.

Yep, apparently enjoyable grouping experience was an afterthought in development. Supposedly there are some things being added in this month in order to fix that but I can't confirm it first hand.

Make it either Subscription with all the costumes free, or make it free-to-play with microtransactions and I'll consider it.

Right now its 15 bucks a month and you STILL have to pay extra for all the powers and costumes, which is crap. That's right, its Subscription AND micro-trans at the same time. Oh and don't try to pull the "but cryptic said you can get anything in game that's in the cash shop by questing" crap. Its not true with costumes. Costume packs are micro-trans exclusive.

Just a few costumes. The powers are included, so are most things. Just 5 costume sets and a few toys and emblems up.

But you are right, costume packs are exclusive, which is bad.

Champions Online downright sucks.

I played COH since launch and was eagerly awaiting this game..bought it day one. Such a huge letdown. Terrible game...just plain bad. I can't wait for it to fail. Makes me sad that they led me to believe that this was going to be way better than COH. Avoid it at all costs.

People are misinformed. Champions right off the box has way more character and power customization than any other game out there. You don't have to pay a single extra dime for it. That is a fact.
Whether you like it or not that is a matter of taste. I am loving it. I'm close to level 40 and can't wait to start my second character and to build my second nemesis.
