Operation Flashpoint patch coming alongside first DLC
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to receive a network optimization patch alongside the game's first DLC at the end of October, according to executive producer Sion Lenton. In an interview with Eurogamer, Lenton said the team at Codemasters has planned for more downloadable content, but has yet to decide what the new content will be.
"It's not a lot of fuss for us to make new content - it's actually quite easy for us to get it out there, with regards to things like levels, game modes, etc," Lenton said. What is being fussed about are the bevy of balance issues players of the military shooter have vocalized on the game's official forum. According to Lenton, the upcoming patch is set to make the game "flow a bit better." The patch comes at a good time, hoping to catch players before they "flow" directly into that other military shooter launching in November.

Is this game any good? I haven't really looked into it.
I've heard a lot of arguments between fans of this game and fans of ArmA2.
Maybe I'll eventually pick up on sale.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 21st 2009 10:39PM
Haha, yeah, I was wondering if the game was worth a buy. Not a lot of press on this title. Makes me wonder if the publishers thought it was worth to be advertised.
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Oct 21st 2009 10:54PM
(click the operation flashpoint blue link above and it takes you to a previous forum with a lot of joystiq reviews and here is 1 of them)
this is the type of game I am probably going to wait and buy when it reaches that $ 10- $ 20 discount clearance bin at the neighborhood game store if I ever buy it.

I honestly think you are full of ****.
1. I lag more on OFPDR more than any other game on my xbox. In fact, its the ONLY game I experience REGULAR lag on while playing over xbox live.
2. only a sample of the issues I have experienced with OFP so far:
1.Enemies in MP take 3-4 headshots to die
2. Vehicle physics are a JOKE. (hit a rock and bounce 15 feet backwards, turn at more than 30 mph and flip over every time.
3. floating bodies
4. invisible guns
5.HORRIBLE friendly AI (constantly getting stuck and they do not respond to my orders at least 50% of the time.)
6. poor enemy AI
7. HUD disappears and reappears randomly
8. constant disconnections and lag on MP
9. to put it simply, MP just ISNT FUN compared to OFP1. Especially with no mission editor on consoles
10. CM advertised 60+ weapons, when really there is only 20 or so, just with different scopes on each.
11. Where the hell are all the vehicles?
12. NO FREE ROAM, (god that pisses me off) even though CM advertised free roam on OFP2 over and over again.
Also, I am not an arma fanboy, having never played Arma 1 or 2. (my computer cant handle it). so dont go blindly calling people ARMA fanboys because they think this game is bad.
Hell, my comp can barely even handle OFP1 with max settings
the main reason why I am so pissed over this is because CODEMASTERS completely stole the OFP name from bohemia and then ruined the franchise, releasing a buggy, unfinished, piece of sh*t game. I do plan to buy ARMA2 asap once I get a new comp, which should be really soon.
So basically in a nutshell:
OFPDR is trash. Codemasters has royally pissed me off and I will never buy another CM product again.
If you have experienced ZERO issues with the game, I HIGHLY DOUBT you have ever played it. So GTFO.
Mr.ESC @ Oct 21st 2009 10:57PM
So far I've heard it is good if you can pass all the glitches and that it is very very hard.
I was going to buy it for the x360 but console communities last too little so I'm going to wait until all the patches and expansions are released and then buy it for the PC.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 21st 2009 10:58PM
Well, you didn't need to be so harsh with your response.
I had already said I never played the game and I was just curious about it.
However I can't help but argue that comment about Codemasters.
DiRT 2 is one of the best racing experiences of the year.
Mr.ESC @ Oct 21st 2009 11:06PM
That was very informative but then again is Codemasters, they aren't the best developers on earth so you have to be a little patient with them and THQ.
Well you have very good reaosns to be angry in fact your post reminds me of the main complains I had about Halo 3.To the date I get a massive amounts of lag for no reason and the quit screen literally insults you due the poor translation.
Seriously I don't know why no one here has ever complained about this problem.
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Oct 21st 2009 11:12PM
spyder- i just pulled 1 comment from a previous forum on joystiq... its made by ryan as the post says, its not my opinion because i havent played the game.
Breakerchase @ Oct 21st 2009 11:29PM
The problem was that Codemasters was using the Operation Flashpoint name. If it was simply named "Dragon Rising" it wouldn't be like this. Using the name means you gotta live up to the name.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 21st 2009 11:33PM
@sk8monroe81
My bad, I should have read it more clearly.
Feel free to throw pie in my face. As long as it's apple.
kentuckyfried @ Oct 21st 2009 11:42PM
Some of the earlier reviews on metacritic say that the game's great for online co-op.
With the AI bots, not so good (that's where the game takes a hit down to its just-below-80 average).
I picked it up but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Steven @ Oct 22nd 2009 5:45PM
It's a really good game, one of the best FPS's I've played in a while.
I think the enthusiasts that expected a true sequel are the main ones angry over the game. Everyone else seems to enjoy it.
t_m @ Oct 22nd 2009 9:26AM
It's a pretty good sequel to Delta Force (or maybe Ghost Recon). It's not a great sequel to Operation Flashpoint.
So it depends what you're looking for.
christopher @ Oct 23rd 2009 2:35PM
This game is phenomenal. The one dude lists all this bizarre garbage that is supposedly wrong with the game?? Freakin' weird like he works for a competing game or some nonsense... did you play the beta and post those errors in your comment here? There are some issues: the graphics are kikass, the physics are great, the ai is topnotch except the medic sometimes doesn't want to heal when you tell 'em to... let's see - oh, yeah you can go to any part of the entire island you want... so yeah, there's definitely free roam which the douchebag said there wasn't... freakin' weird... umm, I dunno. Take what you think a military simulation should be, add pc capability so your graphics and ai are awesome and you have the current game I'm addicted to. BTW I have every single game I want and this and left4dead are the ones I chose to play usually.
I can't speak to crap console gamers because your ai and graphics are gonna be dumbed down. i have an OCed Q9450 cpu with 4gigs DDR3 RAM and SLIed GPUs so I'm not sittin' with a ghetto console and worrying about ai being scaled down or graphics looking like rubber, etc.
Go figure. I love this game.
christopher @ Oct 23rd 2009 2:44PM
Yeah, this game is freakin' stellar.
Anyone saying it isn't probably either plays the console version or has a garbage computer and might as well play the console version (ehem, like the skaterspaz listing all sorts of either misinformation or bizarre errors and crap I do NOT experience on my rig)

I wish I could get into some of the tanks and drive them around but hey, I don't think I could go from a grunt to driving a freakin' tank around in real life so whattya know I can't do it in the game either... I can get in a jeep or a humv but not a tank... go figure
I can free roam - what the hell are you talking about skaterspaz?
the multiplayer sucksballs because of losers misinforming the community probably like skaterspaz... I tried finding dedicated servers and the one I did was full of morons that didn't know how to play - you have to know what you're doing else you waste people's time so people aren't apparently inclined to play the mp part- I know nothing of the optimization because I didn't have any network issues the one time I joined a server and played with a douche that was driving the truck we were all in, crashing it and killing or maiming us all...
The freak, skaterspaz that goes off and lists a long list of misinformation and errors that he experienced is doing the game an injustice. Sorry your rig is ghetto. Sorry you couldn't drive the vehicles and not have video lag or whatever the hell you describe was your experience. How about you buy the game so you're not playing a broken version of it maybe? I dunno why your experience was so crap except your rig is crap, you suck at life and/or you need to grow smarter. I dunno.
Go figure. I love this game.

Cant wait for MW2!

lol. that was funny but true..
Special Agent Steve @ Oct 21st 2009 11:16PM
This game just gets me ever more pumped than I was 20 seconds ago....
BananaBoat @ Oct 21st 2009 11:48PM
This was the last FPS that had the potential to derail my upcoming MW2 addiction. Since it is so obviously buggy and flawed, I'm not going to be spending the money. It's hard to be a small game in a season with so many enormous hits, and I just don't have the disposable income to waste on a game that isn't exactly thrilling current players (I fought myself on Demon's Souls as it is, thinking about how I'll probably spend 600+ dollars on video games this season. Demon's Souls won in the end.)
This is the kind of game that needs to come out in the summer.

I don't have most of these problems you are complaining about. Have you even played? Or at least past the first mission?
wickedpheonix @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:55AM
Unfortunately, neither MW2 nor OFDR has dedicated server support.
Which makes any patch worthless IMO.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 21st 2009 10:59PM
Well, looks like I'm waiting for MAG.
Special Agent Steve @ Oct 21st 2009 11:17PM
Massively Awesome Modern Warfare 2?
oh.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Oct 21st 2009 11:17PM
LOL at the screenshot.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Mr.ESC @ Oct 21st 2009 11:27PM
You've got to be kidding me.
I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can.
Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It's just common sense.
Durden @ Oct 21st 2009 11:28PM
Am I drunk or does your sentence not really work?
Mr.ESC @ Oct 21st 2009 11:31PM

Nobody is debating on whether to buy OF2 or MW2. They're hardly even similar genres.
MW2 is military arcade multiplayer shooter for the casual that only owns three games or the lowest common denominator hypist.
OF2 is military sim made strictly for the harder core. Sure there are harder core games, but the COD-style crowd is certainly not the intended market.
Breakerchase @ Oct 22nd 2009 1:58PM
I wouldn't call DR a military sim. It's fits in the space between Project Reality and Call of Duty 4.
PeteL @ Oct 22nd 2009 8:04AM
I've been having a great time playing co-op with friends through the first 5 missions. Online co-op has been solid, no lag at all.
