did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the TV and PS3 might have already been defective or otherwise broken units?

I'm sure sony's repair department has quite a few defective beyond repair units laying about that look perfectly fine.

So, your saying that there are already defective PS3 slim units?

Fuck, and I thought they would have fixed their fucking YLODs and Blu-Ray drives by now!

I don't want to hate Sony, but when if I buy a PS4, I am so getting some protection plan for it! I can't trust Sony to build quality Playstations, especially early units.

Not everything that comes off the assembly line passes QA tests. There is not an electronics manufacturing line in the world that produces 100% perfect products.

@RKN Like aristokrat said there are no 100% products coming off the assembly line in electronics....

I would rather them (Sony) do stuff like this instead of willingly and knowingly ship these defects to consumers.... Who would do such a thing?

Nice bit of luck how the PS3 rotated perfectly so that it was facing out during the impact. Looked pretty cool, and I thought for a moment it was embedded in the screen.

Not sure about the slim. If they hurled a fat, I'm almost certain it would survive due to the increased girth.

They used an XBR3? Couldn't break out the XBR9? Although I think the 3 is the better set anyways even without the 240hz.

You can tell because the screen has the floating bezel design.

It was that moment of suspense when you see the PS3 gliding gently towards the TV that really made it fun. It's like, "Hey, this is CG, really nice, very serene, and now it's going to just drop into the TV like a pool... wait, it's not supposed to shatter..."

What a shitty advert.

This is one of those "lets do something totally dumb and people will think it's cool" adverts. Looks like it worked.

Btw, I do get it, collision of entertainment and all that shit, still...

I have to admit I don't care much about the PS3 and the Bravia, but I'm still wondering what the hell Sony is trying to convey with this ad.

Your a pretty shitty gamer for life if you miss and diss on the PC and Playstation systems. Only limiting yourself to the Xbox isn't good.

Brilliantly cheap way to make a compelling advert. The Bravia and PS3 are Sony's already, so they're only paying the manufacturing costs. The rest of the rig looks to be an Autoliv testing room, designed for throwing cars into walls to test airbag and seatbelt safety. I would assume that the slow motion cameras are Autoliv's also. Between hire of the testing room and the items actually thrown, the cost to make this is probably a tiny fraction of the cost of the average TV advertisement.

All I see is a colossal waste.
A waste of a (presumably) good PS3.
A waste of a (presumably) good TV.
A waste of electricity - did you see how many lights are on?
I hope they paid for proper electronics disposal....

But my Inner Kid thinks its cool to see things get smashed up in super slo-mo. And I like how the TV seems to shiver just before meeting it's untimely death.
