You'd be forgiven for taking Atomic Games' announcement of a Wii FPS as the final nail in the coffin for semi-documentary game Six Days in Fallujah. Atomic says that, even though it's releasing a ported and renamed version of 2005's Close Combat: First to Fight for Wii (through publisher Destineer), it's not giving up on its original project, which was axed by Konami in April.
The news that Marines: Modern Urban Combat -- huh, what do you mean that subtitle sounds familiar? -- will arrive November 10 comes after rumors that layoffs had all but shuttered the studio. Though Atomic's on to other projects, Gamasutra reports that the developer's president, Peter Tamte, still insists it "remains committed" to Fallujah.
We're happy to see that Atomic's still plugging along, but if you're expecting to see Six Days in Fallujah anytime soon ... well, just don't.

Don't count on it, real life doesn't make good games.

Don't feel bad. That is one less annoying 12 year old that you don't have to worry about ruining your online cod experience.

If it means one less sale to Activision, I'm good. Even if it has to go *shudder* Destineer.

Well I know what excuse will be brought up by the developers when this game fails miserably;
"Well, it's a mature game on the Wii, it's not the game's fault"
Can't they just let this shit go already?

@Kahn: i think even ports from this gen are uninteresting quite frankly.
While their execution may be lacking, I think High Voltage was on the right track: create an IP specific for Nintendo and build on it. Rather than try to port the next 360/PS3 FPS, build the next Metroid (as a FPS, TPS, or tactical shooter).
I'm surprised that companies don't look at Wiiware for developing a new IP, to test ideas, and to build interest. Hudson is showing that good shooters are possible there. LostWinds is showing how a Wiiware game can be popular enough to spin into a retail game.

hmm, this is interesting. oh, i'm sorry, i meant, this is a TERRIBLE IDEA. if they're counting on sales of this Wii game, which might as well be called "A Harkening of Responsibility: Current Combat", to support development of a game Konami didn't even want, they are going to be seriously freakin' disappointed. good luck guys. you will certainly need it.

"remains committed"? god, i should hope so, i think they took the loss of their game a little hard. it sounds like they are a danger to themselves and others.

After seeing the name of this title and the release date, I think that they're trying to trick some people.

If buying this game increases the chances that "Six Days in Fallujah" will see the light of day, then I will buy it.
*shudder* No matter how bad it is.

Third party company doing games for the wii should at least try to give more exposure to their wii games.
call of duty waw reflex is a few weeks away and still nothing, no videos, no new picks( the one out there are awful) they are reeling to take buyers for granted by thinking is waw2 or something.
On this game still the same method is there: lets release another war game for people who can't buy waw2. wow amazing then there's the lack of selling and they blame the wii.

They would've gotten even more points for calling it "Marine Warfare Too." That would have made a great gag gift.

I would buy six days in fallujah in a heartbeat. That is, if a publisher will go ahead and release it. Not that I ever expected Konami to be the one, but maybe someone a little crazier. Actually, this seems almost up Ubisoft's alley.

Or maybe 2K, since they're clearly not afraid of controversy.
Anyway, yes, I firmly believe SDiF should be made. I think - assuming that it plays well enough - that it will be a litmus test for whether the world is ready for games that tackle real, relevant, mature subject matter instead of the over-the-top, macho power-trip war/crime "simulator". In other words, it looks to be one of the first war games to actually take a serious and responsible approach to war instead of playing it for thrills and adrenaline. That is, if it turns out like the developers say it will. And if it ever gets published.
Also, nice Killface avatar. "Son of a WHORE!!"
