Of course it's a dumbing down of the medium that leads to a decline in unique experiences in favour of safe profit generating titles.

Open your eyes, it's happening all around you. Erosion is a slow process and is not easily seen in early stages, then WHOOOM!!, the ground gives way and the landscape is dramatically altered.

The only reason I do is because I hate waiting for things to arrive in the mail.

I would help if people actually bought Odin Sphere, which this game looks very much like. I saw Odin Sphere in all kinds of retailers over here in the UK, don't know a single person who even mentioned the game. Especially since it was released at the end of the PS2's lifespan and was a very niche title.

In an ideal world, retailers would stock all games, but they have to think of their bottom-line, no point stocking up on something doomed for the bargain bin because the developers just expect people to buy it. Heck, even one of my favourite Wii titles; Another Code R has been seemingly neglected by a large number of highstreet retailers, and that's a 1st party title and was advertised on TV. MMV should pump money into advertising the game, you really do not get something for nothing when it comes to brand awareness.

Same creators.

Not much people mention Odin Sphere since the people who bought it are too busy playing that, Grim Grimoire, and Muramasa and are happy doing so. :P
That, and I hardly find bringing up Odin Sphere useful to most gaming arguments... other than "2D games can still be awesome".

...but then it turns to the argument of whether or not those games were too repetitive. Then the argument changes completely.

Soo, even more reason for digital distribution to exist.

Maybe the publishers could guarantee sales for it or something (ie give refunds for the unsold copies), then sell the unsold copies online.

The more they avoid original IP, the more they'll hurt themselves.
Gaming news are becoming more accessible within the console itself through all the connectivities. These retailers traditionally rely on selling at overpriced products to those not in the know--but soon, there won't be those not in the knows anymore. They will just end up driving everyone toward online purchase and downloaded contents.

This is why all the orginal games are going DOWNLOAD ONLY. It's not worth the hassle for the innovative games to get physical releases... especially when they might not even make it into the store... but (on PC at least, and maybe consoles too) digital downloads are giving these games another chance to get discovered.

UK games retailers suck... with the exception of the small independents. At least those guys will probably have this game. (though probably a very expensive import version).
