BAH, this just makes me mad that the dragon age origins date was pushed back further. if it was still coming out in october, i'd definitely use this deal to get borderlands, forza 3, and dragon age.

For the Buy one get one half off 360 sale, I ordered online (in-store pickup) and it allowed future titles to count. I got Beatles and MW2, and neither was out at the time.

Apparently they caught on, and did not allow this for the PS3 version of the sale. Hopefully they forgot.

Use your brain.
Buy Uncharted and Ratchet, and some other game with Best Buys deal. Return the sealed Uncharted copy to wherever you just bought it at.

@draco: LOL meme.

In the 6 years that I have been buying games from Gamestop I have NEVER been handed a gutted copy when buying new.

I have T - My wife is one of those people who always takes the second box of anything off the shelf, not the front one. Doesn't trust the pre-touched ones or something, I dunno.

One day we went to Gamestop and I asked for a new game, they grabbed an open shell and placed the game in it from the slips and said it was new, not used, and there was no difference whether it was sealed or not. Yeah, that wasn't going to work out, so I had to drive over to BB to grab a sealed copy. I don't know the condition of the disc, but it wasn't sealed and therefore wasn't new to us.

Don't say its BS that they sell open "new" games - they do.

Has anybody ever tried just saying "Hey can I get a sealed copy instead?" Or do people immediately just pour on the Hatorade and storm out in a huff?

Typically if they're trying to sell you a gutted copy then that's the last one they have left, at which point you SHOULD go to a different store.

Like I said, for as long as I (or anybody I know) has shopped at Gamestop, this has never happened. Not even once. This is between reserverations AND walking in off the street to buy something.

It was purchased with reward zone points, so would have to come up with the cash to get the new copy to return. Had the money to pay for one game, not two.

"Has anybody ever tried just saying "Hey can I get a sealed copy instead?" Or do people immediately just pour on the Hatorade and storm out in a huff?" -T

Where did I say I didn't ask for a sealed copy instead? Yes, I did, hence me saying they told me "it was new, not used, and there was no difference whether it was sealed or not". So don't jump to strange conclusions and claim I or others "immediately just pour on the Hatorade and storm out in a huff." Seeing as I am the only one involved in that event I see no reason for you to act like I did a damn thing wrong or that they acted anyway other than they did. I am pretty damn patient with Gamestop and usually don't get mad at them, but I think an open copy of a game is just that and that it is no longer new at that point. Don't make conclusions about me without first reading my post history on them.

Also, I thought I could buy items without having to make a reservation and still get them in the new state they were priced as.

My buddy was a manager of a Gamestop for years until recently when he got a job with a three letter government agency. The point is that Gamestop opens at least one copy of a game and puts that on the display wall. If it's the last copy left they sell it to the customer as new. They are supposed to put a little clear circular piece of tape on the edge that functions as the "seal." The prooblem is sometimes they forget to put the seal on there ...

I still remember a while ago when I bought a new PSP game that I hadn't even played, decided to return it and the guy refused because it was already opened!!! I'm not kidding either. I explained to him it was already opened when I bought it and he said it didn't matter. I even said so if I buy a new game thats already been opened and I never play it that means it can NEVER be returned? He basically said Yes it meant the game could never be returned. I asked for the store manager and the district managers phone number. I couldn't get in touch with the store manager but I lambasted the district manager. He called the store right away (I was in the parking lot on my cell mind you) and told the kid to return it no questions asked.

Another problem with the Gamestop practice is that employees are allowed and encouraged to check out new games to play them and give customers who ask questions feedback. The employees with take that actual store copy home with them and play it! How is THAT a new game??? It's a used game.

One last story -- I bought Chrono Trigger on the DS but it was one of those opened new copies during one of their sales last year. So, I get the game take it home to play it and it had over 35 hours put into the game!!! The asswipe at gamestop didn't even bother to delete his game save file. I brought it back and asked the manager how they can sell used games (over 35 hours in this case) as new titles!?!?!??!?! His reponse was something to the effect of " because it wasn't sold to another customer it's not considered used." So, something is only used if the customer himself buys a game, opens it, plays it and wants to exchange it?

Yeah needless to say I absolutely hate Gamestop. When my good friend was at one of them it was cool because I could get free pre-order swag and I didn't need to worry about any of the drama. But, that store was so far away and he also was only there as a stop gap until he had been designated at his new job.

The only things I use Gamsetop for is buying either obscure titles (usually used like old psp or ps2 games), obscure new releases, midnight launch if it's a game I really want (mgs 4 & madden one year) or if there is a certain pre-order bonus i want. Other than that I avoid it like the plague. I just shop at best buy because I'm a rewards zone silver & gamers club member and they give me a 45 day return policy. They are just better in my opinion and are also a lot nicer and more willing to go the extra mile and help ... from my experience anyway.

I work at Best Buy. We have a policy where if something goes on sale within two weeks of purchase, we will honour that sale price.

Just bring in your receipt (if you don't have it, customer service can look it up, but it's a pain in the butt) and go to customer service. Explain the situation to them, and bring your free game with you... after about 5 minutes of the CS rep doing some black magic, you should be good to head home.

Technically what happens is they return the games you purchased (and no, you don't need to bring them with you, though it would probably help to at least bring the boxes with you) and then you repurchase them with the new sale.

If you simply return the games, they'll credit the points back to your account, but it'll take 30 days.

You could try talking to a manager - or, exchange those games for two other $60 games (they'll transfer the $50 worth of certificates) and then, next week, do the same thing again. Just depends how much you want to keep going back to Best Buy.

Thanks for the advice guys. I may try that. I haven't even taken the two games out of the wrapping yet. I may try to get the exchange, or I'll just ask for Ratchet for Christmas and take advantage of the sale with some cheaper games. Always wanted, but never got around to buying Left 4 Dead, Retro Games Challenge, and the Broken Steel/Point Look Out Fallout pack. The store is an hour drive away, so I many just get the three cheaper games online and save myself the headache.

You gave me something to think about though.

45 days if you are a rewards zone silver member like me :)

You can also just keep bumping your time line up as well. Let's say it's been 21 days and the game you want isn't out for another 2 weeks ... exchange for a different title and start the clock all over again.

Easy people ... very easy.

I already have, or have made deals to play, those other games. Except Demon's Souls. After already playing Too Human and Ninja Gaiden 2 this generation, I don't know if I'm ready for another game that actively hates me and is going to send me to anger management class. Still, the reviews have left me on the fence for that one.
