Trine coming to US PSN today; Frozenbyte answers the obvious question

Essentially, as Frozenbyte has said, the delay can be attributed to stringent testing for a console release, combined with a long wait for approval of every test -- with just a dash of Sony marketing strategy. Frozenbyte's Joel Kinnunen has described the issue in a lengthy forum post.
"The reason why the US version is so late is a bit of a similar situation as the overall delay," Kinnunen wrote. "We had the US version done around the same time as the European version and I think the publisher submitted it swiftly after hearing the European version was 'ok.'" After that delay, Kinnunen believes, it was Sony's desire to "give the game a good window with regards to other PSN titles/content" that kept it off the US PlayStation Store until today.

Failure. Already bootlegged the game on my PC. Pretty cool, too. You lucked out Sony. I usually buy PSN games on a dime too if they look decent enough from previews.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:04PM
C'mon man, bootleg? You have to be better than that.
n0ne @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:09PM
Who uses the term "Bootlegged" anymore?
Zing @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:26PM
Bootleg? Whoah am i back in the 1995?
Beware Y2K bug!
Getting in some online play on my dial up, my internet is blistering fast, can't see it getting faster than this.

"the 1995?"
Dammit what was i thinking :(
I was distracted by my Yo-Yo
Ghost_Crisis @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:37PM
Yeah...I definitely used the word "Bootlegged". Would you rather me use "Pirated", at the cost of someone throwing up more baby pirate pics?
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:38PM
@Zing: Hey man, don't diss the Yo-Yo...
kentuckyfried @ Oct 22nd 2009 7:35PM
If you like it, you should buy it...don't be a scrub.
spinthelights @ Oct 22nd 2009 9:45PM
I personally do all my bootlegging at the local speakeasy, and if the coppers case the joint, we all climb in the Tin Lizzy and give 'em what-for with the tommy gun.
I also do all my pirating along the Barbary Coast, for what it's worth.
hobocop @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:06PM
Sony screwed Frozenbyte over. A lot of people were talking about Trine and how awesome it was when it came and for those that only have a PS3 have probably forgot about this game now. =(
Lars @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:21PM
I played some of it on PC already, true. But I'm totally having a Trine party tonight!
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:37PM
I disagree. The delay on the part of SCEA couldn't have been that much. The REAL delay came from the failed testing due to bugs in the game.
Frozenbyte screwed Frozenbyte over.
SolidSnakeX @ Oct 22nd 2009 8:56PM
Joel Kinnunen You should've listened to what we wanted Online Multi-player Coop! Without the game is useless $20.00 for shit! Especially how stupid are you gamer developers when you list it as 1-2-3-4 Players!.....
Kodros @ Oct 23rd 2009 1:32PM
"Sony screwed Frozenbyte over"
Yes, because that makes perfect sense. Sony wanted to screw Frozenbyte over so that both Sony and Frozenbyte get less money. EVERY PSN game has to go through this process. I don't understand how they didn't see this coming.
Jason Axelrod @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:12PM
Huge mistake... we all know that people don't buy DLC games during the holiday season. Too many big budget titles are coming out for people to worry about Trine, Mushroom Wars or Critter Crunch.
DrunkRaba @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:15PM
We all know that? Crazy. Because I buy WAY more PSN titles than full retail titles, and the season doesn't seem to matter to me. Go figure.
Xabidar @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:16PM
I downloaded Critter Crunch (and its awesome), but does anyone know if Mushroom Wars is any good? It seems to have a PixelJunk vibe, and I loved me some PJ Monsters.
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:41PM
@drunkraba
That's great and all, but he's right about the trend. Just because you're an exception doesn't mean it's not true.
SolidSnakeX @ Oct 22nd 2009 8:27PM
Don't buy it your wasting your money There's no online support that is pathetic!.. And then they $19.99 RIPOFF!...
DrunkRaba @ Oct 23rd 2009 1:02AM
@WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads
If anything I would say the trend is big games getting pushed early into the next year due to MW2.
Kodros @ Oct 23rd 2009 1:40PM
"Don't buy it your wasting your money There's no online support that is pathetic!"
Oh, be quiet you. Not everybody gives a crap about online and no, it's not pathetic. But sure, everybody please don't waste your $20 on a quality game that's just as long as some retail games.
kacex @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:11PM
Well I'm buying it! It better be cheaper than the PC cuz they promised!! :(
Heavytoka @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:14PM
It's going to be 19.99
kacex @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:29PM
Yeah I just read the ps blog... and back tracking on the joystiq posts... no online coop?!?!?! WTF?! :(
Einhanderkiller @ Oct 22nd 2009 7:06PM
Well, it WAS cheaper than the PC version, but the PC version had its price lowered to $19.99 like a month ago.
Xabidar @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:12PM
Finally! As soon as it hits the PSN, I'm going to download it. I bought a PSN card just for it, and the card's starting to collect dust. I hope the soundtrack is released as well!
Durden @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:14PM
About damn time! Frozenbyte really got screwed on this one. I'll be buying ASAP.
ottoman673 @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:16PM
You must play this game.
Bought it for $30 on steam and that was totally worth it.
$20 on PSN is a steal.
Sly @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:30PM
but that $10 less comes with a major loss. no online co-op. :(
kentuckyfried @ Oct 22nd 2009 7:36PM
didn't the forum post just say that all versions have no online co-op?
Sly @ Oct 22nd 2009 7:59PM
huh, i thought i read that the PC version would have online co-op. local co-op would be awkward on a PC...
Jocaju @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:28PM
Ratchet & Clank demo and Trine? Awesome.
eNrique @ Oct 22nd 2009 6:36PM
Damn it!
I wish the PSN would get updated earlier!
Why does it take so long?
Toop @ Oct 22nd 2009 8:18PM
Well done reading the article. Fletcher happens to mention a couple reasons why Trine was delayed on PSN.
Surfaced @ Oct 22nd 2009 8:29PM
No, hes talking about the PSN Thursday update in general. Lately, its been happening far into the night as opposed to the usual 6:00ish EST.
eNrique @ Oct 22nd 2009 9:28PM
Well done reading my comment toop.
Idiot.
kacex @ Oct 22nd 2009 9:33PM
It's up!!
cantbeatmegaman @ Oct 22nd 2009 7:37PM
No co-op online. No buy.
fundando @ Oct 22nd 2009 8:53PM
It still isn't online dammit and its 5.51 here on the west coast. Not only that none of the Rock Band dlc is up. Stop being so slow SONY!
wii60dsgamer @ Oct 22nd 2009 10:49PM
I think the obvious question is: Where is the 360 version of this game? I'd be ready to download it now if they would release it. There's no reason to hold it off.
beeg @ Oct 23rd 2009 5:41PM
Good window, my ass. Releasing it right in the wake of Brutal Legend & Uncharted 2—that’s some brilliantly strategic marketing right there.
