The "wave 1" invites to the Xbox Live update preview program are out now, according to Major Nelson. If your dear console has been invited to participate, there should be a prompt upon sign-in. A "wave 1" invite implies that more waves are incoming, so don't get too sad if ya didn't catch the first one, Moondoggie. Grab that board and prepare to ride a future wave to all that upgradedness.

Is the Sky Player UK only?
I'd love to have that, but alas, I am American!

It's a TV service over in the UK.
If I knew it was being offered here in America, I'd run out and buy a 360 right freakin' now. I want me some Premier League. =/

Yeah it's the UK's answer to netflix, sort of. Since they don't get Netflix, they'll get SkyTV instead and watch live sports games on their Xbox.
I want Sunday Night Football on my Xbox!
.
..
Oh and I got in the preview program. I'm somewhat excited to test out Last.fm, even though I can use it on my computer, I kind of hope there will be some new features or atleast have it be a faster, more streamlined experience...

All Canada got was a Zune market place BETA, with no TV shows. Just a few movies.

I wish I could stream Last.fm through the in-game guide.
Oh well, it's nice to just play it through the app when I'm doing work.

I got in and I have to say that the Last.fm app is pretty slick... it's definitely going to get a lot of use. Looking at the facebook app, you can tell that it's a work in progress right now cuz it's moving a bit sluggish. Looking at photo albums tho is a great feature. The twitter app is well put together too but I don't really have much use for that one.
I'm noticing connect errors but it's to be expected in a preview and especially with people still hitting the servers on the first day of this stage of previews.
One thing that interests me is how they've seem to created a "framework" of sorts to have outside sources make mini-streaming internet apps.
With the msnbc, dilbert, and new yorker cartoon mini video apps, I think we're getting a glimpse of where the dashboard is going by setting the stage for 3rd parties to bring web "apps" and streaming content directly to it.
Overall it looks like it's going to be a great dash update when they open it up.

What's the big deal about Facebook and Twitter anyway? Twitter sucks, Facebook is cool, but PS3 has been able to view both of them with it's web browser since launch. Not to mention it's the only console that has Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls (the best RPG ever)

Cool, I got in.
For those of you that aren't sure, here's how you can find out if you're in the first wave.
When you sign in to Microsoft Connect, click on Xbox Live Update.
If your screen looks like this: http://img196.yfrog.com/i/fall2009update.png/ then you're in.
If when you turn on your 360, the update doesn't come up right away, you can clear your HDD's cache, then restart. That should prompt the update.

Yeah I have that screen, but as late as this morning I still don't have the update on my 360. I'll try clearing the cache when I get home from work and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, I'll know that I must have entered my serial # incorrectly when filling out the form.

dear christ microsoft is loving me today. After 10 months of beta testing 7, and I finally buy it, now they're giving me the ability to indulge myself in my twitter-whoreish habits on yet another screen? I got so excited I ran out to walmart to buy a chatpad.

Not modded actually, just taking the liberty of upgrading my hard drive without the Microsoft tax. It actually hurts the functionality, because backwards compatibility doesn't work anymore. But it's worth it overall, that is unless it gets broken by the new patch.

I'm in. Gotta say, the social media stuff looks like they've put some work into it, and it does work pretty well. The FaceBook navigation seems a bit choppy at times, but that may have been intended. Twitter works but is pretty much useless. Zune Video seems just like the old Video Marketplace to me, but the video quality may indeed be up to snuffs. I'll have to switch from my monitor to my HDTV to find out. So far so good though. Good to know that the Xbox division continues to do a great job on Live. Will mess with the update further tomorrow.
