Pretty sure that they can get off without offending just with the word "nanny"....seeing as how they put the word "bad" in front of it....semantics.

So killing evil babies that spew locust from their mouths isn't kosh? Doom 3 also had babies, scary ones at that and I don't recall a fuss.

Not really expecting much depth no, but if they get the whole, "it's a terrible place and you don't want to be there" then yeah - there's some truth to that at least :)

Dante's original story is quite a few steps away from the Bible, and the game is quite a few steps away from Dante's story (from what I've read and heard).

I had high hopes that they would recreate a classic literature piece and instead it seems like shock-value cheap stuff. I'll still play it and give it a fair shot but no, I'm not expecting much.

This is terrible.

Good nannies can kill babies, too. They're just much better at covering it up after the fact.

What in the- I don't see what the big deal is anyway. I mean if they are in Hell, I think they would be dead (just like Wired stated above). I smell haters!

I'm not sure what's more retarded: the fact that they almost certainly put this in the game in hopes of getting this type of publicity, or the way in which the "INA" reacted to it.

Anyway, I'm almost certainly not going to be getting this thanks in equal part to their consistently offensive and pretentious marketing tactics, and the fact that I'm not into tarnishing classic literature.

I think that this is insane. Obviously they haven't read the book, which I am doing in senior English as of this moment. The fact is that they are trying to convey Dante's hell as best they can and their doing a good job of it from the footage I have seen. Yes maybe the achievement is a little lucrative, but what about killing hookers in GTA 4 to get money to unlock the Half a Mil' acheviment or some of the achievements in other games that are just as crazy as this one. My point lay off game developers are doing the best they can for the fans. If you don't like it don't play it. -Dart3rocks aka Vamp-X

"The kid (often referred to as "Leopold" but his name has generally been kept out of the press since he's a minor) made the video in the wake of Germany's own violent video games controversy, when lawmakers were campaigning to restrict their sale. Leopold did his impression of the politician's worst nightmare, slamming around the keyboard and laughing maniacally as he killed opponents."

What really surprises me is that this nanny organization is offended by the name "Bad Nanny," not that the achievement is earned by killing babies.

Hilarity combo. None of you actually know what baptism is for, and those of you who would have problems killing little demon babies in a video game are hypocrites.

I am upset that the Nanny Association instead of I don't know paying attention to children were paying attention to Dante's Inferno.

It isn't even a game worth checking out with it's bullshit stunts they have pulled before in promoting this game.

Don't be offended! They're already in hell, see? They're already dead. So it's really not baby-killing at all.

It's double baby-killing.

@brettjr " didn't get to wash away their sins they're born with so they can't get into heaven"

that must be because you have a religion, see, some people don't have a religion. So just deal with it, like the deal with you. As far as I can tell this is another stunt from EA.

PS: babies born with sins ? -_-

Since I can't kill unbaptised babies in Dante's Inferno, I guess I'll just need to get my fix by killing them in real life. =*(

wow i wonder if the nannies would be mad if they had called the achievment "it's not the nannies fault" instead of "bad nanny". Seriously though making an achievment about killing babies is asking for trouble i mean wasn't there a incident similar to this were there was something about little red riding hood killing 100 children achievement, but i guess that was a long time ago.

@ Geist (it's way up near the top of this thread)

Actually, unbaptized babies go to Limbo (which in The Divine Comedy is the first level of the Inferno), not Purgatory.

What would they have to purge?

I didn't hear this kind outcry about the demon babies of Doom 3, and it seems as if the babies you are killing in this game are of the same type.

It's also a game, it's not a real event, nor does it encourage a sane person to commit such an act.
People should stop being so squeamish, it's not like rock music or rambo videos ruined anyones lives either.

From the INA: http://Nanny.org
International Nanny Association Demands Drastic Changes to Dante's Inferno Video Game or No Release

Irresponsible to market "baby killing" to group which statistically has highest percentage of individuals charged with child maltreatment, says INA

Oct 29, 2009 – Last week the International Nanny Association (INA) drew heat from the gaming and tech world for their public statement denouncing a level of Electronic Art's (EA) upcoming game, Dante's Inferno-- the level unveiled during the company’s Naughty or Nice press event on October 14, 2009. INA took issue with the "lust level" of the game, which has a February release date, in which “un-baptized babies” are slaughtered by the game player to earn the achievement of "bad nanny."
Lynne Kenney, PsyD, known as "The Family Coach" and author of The Family Coach Method insists "INA has not over-reacted.” She says, “We live in a culture that has become desensitized to killing. To encourage even adults to play games that celebrate and reward killing babies is disgusting and sick. Social isolation, gaming that emphasizes ‘kills’ and companies that spend man hours on this sort of game development contribute to the dehumanization of children, which is appalling."
According to The Entertainment Software Association, in 2009, 68% of individuals in US households now play computer or video games. They also state that the average player is 35 years of age. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, the median age of an individual who is charged with child maltreatment is between 30 and 33 years of age.
INA is shocked by the amount of excitement and anticipation being expressed on hundreds of video gaming message boards and blogs over the unveiling of the lust level in Dante's Inferno. INA feels strongly that marketing a video game that promotes “baby-killing” (a term EA has coined) to an audience that statistically has the highest percentage of individuals charged with child maltreatment is extremely irresponsible.
INA stands by its original statement and demands that Electronic Arts either not release the game or drastically change the verbiage and nature of the lust level in the game.

Seriously. In Circle one(Limbo) of of Dante's inferno is for the unbaptised and The Virtuous pagans. So really they could've been good babies not bad. According to the book, thats where Virgil (the guy who leads Dante through the 9 Circles of hell) lives in. It still doesn't change the fact that the game has a more dark and gory feel to the story than the book does but still, they're demon babies. Who cares about killing a demon baby? Would you adopt a Demon baby? Not in your right mind you would.
