Like all good things in life, there's a steep price to pay for watching last night's Bioshock 2–centric episode of GameTrailers TV (posted after the jump). That price is your everlasting soul.
Okay, all it actually costs you is exposure to a few spoilers for the game -- but isn't that just as bad? Remember that sense of wonder the first time you stepped foot into the murky waters of Rapture? Aren't you afraid you'll ruin whatever semblance of that emotion that might still appear in the sequel by filling your ... you're already watching it, aren't you? You're a fiend, you know that? A fiend.

One sequel is milking the cow? Maybe it isn't quite necessary, but I'm of the opinion that the "milking the cow" remarks need to wait until it's an annual franchise with spin-offs released every 2-4 months a la Guitar Hero.

I think when you frequent gaming blogs / sites / communities enough, you tend to get the feeling of "milking" when that's all people talk about.
For example, how many people got sick of a Halo or Gears release because months leading up to it, people referred to it almost in every thread / post.

Throwing out a copy and paste sequel that isn't even done by Kevin Levine or the same branch of the studio is milking it, yes. Doesn't matter if it's the first sequel or the tenth. They're obviously milking it. I'm sorry you don't understand basic terminology.

Yeah because milking a cow is making a sequel almost 3 years later right?

I agree in the sense that Bioshock 2 wasn't necessary and it's obvious to me that the franchise was never planned to have a sequel. Let's not play semantics over the phrase "milking it" because I think we can all agree that it's an obvious cash in. I watched all of the footage on GTTV just now and I'm convinced this game is lacking in creativity.
They aren't milking it the same way Activision is milking Call Of Duty & Guitar Hero, EA with need for speed & Microsoft is with Halo. But, it's an obviously unnecessary game thats only going to make the franchise dilluted. Bioshock was/is one of the best games this generation and it didn't need (and fans don't want) a sequel.

Exactly, but all the crying fanboys on this site can't stop trying to think of whitty one liners and voting people down since that's all they have in life. And I'm busy at work, so yes I meant Ken Levine not Kevin Levine (Kevin is my boss so I got confused lol)
I don't expect most people on here know what a boss is, besides their parents.

I think it's semantics over the phrase "milking it" and maybe there are some Bioshock fanboys out there ... I don't know. But, I agree with you in the sense that this sequel wasn't wanted or needed and that it's a cash in based off the popularity of the original.

lol - stay classy, bro. You got it all wrong, but I won't get into most of that. I'm not necessarily defending the sequel itself - I still haven't finished the first, so I can't evaluate whether it's appropriate or not - all I was trying to say is it seems too soon to be crying foul over one follow-up, regardless of cash-in status.
This'll be my last response - after all, I have to work.

@dark_ inchworm
so then, you're admitting that you have no life and just sit around on the computer trolling?
Sounds like the average Joystiq reader.
Bioshock needs no "2", needs no multiplayer, and doesn't need to be convoluted anymore so.
You're all a bunch of jackasses for trying to flame someone for being observant.

Wow, the trolls are out strong today.
How about we judge the sequel by it's gameplay and story and not whether the series has "sold out" or something weird like that.

It sucks that I just started playing the original Bioshock, and watching GTTV spoiled a big part for me...
Still, the footage for 2 looks amazing, so it was worth watching.

anyone else watch this and thought " who cares " i mean would be nice to play yea but i just don't have a whole lot of interest in this like i did the first one. but i'm also confused does it take place before or after Bioshock they say some guy named John and if he survived or something .. was John the main character in the first one .. if so then how can be in the second Bioshock ? The Multiplayer looks Tacky i still think this game doesn't need Multiplayer. anyone else here think the Multiplayer looks Tacky ?

Not just the multiplayer but the entire game looked tacky and uninspired. But, when it was announced that Uncharted 2 would have multiplayer I was also very skeptical yet it turned out to be very well done. I'm not going to pass judgement on the game itself but I still think it shouldn't have been made into a sequel.
Maybe I'm retarded but I'm having difficulty following the story of this game based off the first one. Maybe its based off the bad ending from the first one?

Guess you should've played it years ago... that or not watched the vid as joystiq CLEARLY states that there are spoilers from the first game.

I'm still skeptical but it's looking better than I expected.
The question I wish they would ask is if they're going to use Securom for the PC version again. Because of the fiasco with the first game I'm going to hold off buying until I know for sure.

I'm pretty excited.
The original Bioshock, wasn't it always planned to be a trilogy in the first place?
Honestly, if it's more of the same, I'm fine with that as long as they do a GREAT job.
I've not gotten tired of Rapture.

I am REALLY skeptical about it but the game looks much better than I thought AND it does remind me of the first game and how much fun I had at that time. I really don't know how to feel about it.....
And oh man, I'd be so pissed if they think it'd be an awesome idea to do a huge awful twist in the story (as to surpass the first game's) and turns out that Ryan didn't really died and came back from a Vita-Chamber and knew that Jack would kill Fontaine and he'd rid him from his problems. Then maybe he was in a comma or something for so many years cause his vita-chamber was half working or something and when he woke up that woman had taken over Rapture in the absence of a leader. Also he had the very first big daddy suit in his possession hidden somewhere to use in times like this, so in the end you kill that woman and you were ACTUALLY ANDREW RYAN THIS WHOLE TIME! CONFIRMED.
