Matt Hazard trailers put out-of-work characters back in the game
It must be tough being a video game character. They always have to be "on" -- ready to go should we boot up our systems or pump more quarters into the machines. But what happens when we stop turning them on? A two-part trailer for the second-chance Matt Hazard: Blood Bath & Beyond (now a side-scroller!) explores the more desperate side of the digital beings we've so carelessly abused and sold back to GameStop.
Head past the break for the two trailers and see if you can spot all of the cameos! (You know it's hard times when even a certain mustached plumber can't find any work.)

How do you know this isn't just sprinkles again?
Chalky @ Oct 25th 2009 1:07AM
Goddamn joystiq reply system. That's meant for the post below.

Yet another great idea with terrible execution.
Only from Codemasters.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 23rd 2009 7:13PM
Oh you mean like DiRT 2?
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/dirt2
Look at those terrible scores.
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 23rd 2009 7:16PM
Codemasters has nothing to do with this title, nor did it have anything to do with the Eat Lead retail title, either.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 7:17PM
No, I mean like Turning Point (MC score: 43). And Legendary (MC score 47). AND Eat Lead (MC score 53).
See my point?

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard

Publisher(s): D3 Publisher
Smart ass. Keep your rants about Codemasters where they are wanted, in your own thick skull.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 7:21PM
Both companies have made some real stinkers. Forgive me if the lines between the crap tend to blur.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 23rd 2009 7:25PM
So you're the new asshole around Joystiq?
It's nice to see they've filled my spot so quickly.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 7:27PM
Blame Microsoft. They've had me on the run-around about my 360 parts for two weeks. One tends to get a little irritated when you're experiencing withdrawal.
I actually honestly thought CM produced Eat Lead. My mistake. But you can't argue that Codemasters CAN produce crap. Dirt is obviously an exception.
robert @ Oct 24th 2009 1:24PM
Oh great, another post-sprinkles fuckhead, just what joytiq needs.
under13warrior @ Oct 25th 2009 5:07PM
Ah Metacritic nerds the most retarded' type of nerd

I clicked the link because of the woman in the black dress.
Why am I so weak?
kentuckyfried @ Oct 23rd 2009 8:15PM
I didn't even see the woman in the black dress in the preview image.
she's hot...what a rack. =D
kentuckyfried @ Oct 23rd 2009 8:15PM
Oh, I see her now. hehehe.
kentuckyfried @ Oct 23rd 2009 8:14PM
D3 did a bang-up job on Dead Head Fred (it was fun but I never finished it).
It's too bad the first Matt Hazard game didn't fare as well, b/c I was ready to buy it. I did enjoy those trailers as well as these, the idea has potential.
I just hope the second release is alot better and worthy of my hard-earned dollars.
Roflgoat @ Oct 23rd 2009 8:22PM
Were those a Mirror's Edge level and three Team Fortress 2 levels?
Oh man
DBuck_Eye @ Oct 23rd 2009 8:34PM
Still can't get past the blatant Simpsons rip-off, but I do hope this is a good game.
Georgia Gator @ Oct 24th 2009 12:47AM
I've heard the orchestral music in the first video, but I can't remember the name of it.
Does anyone happen to know?
Alex @ Oct 24th 2009 1:17AM
Sonata No.14 in C sharp minor, op.27 no.2 (Moonlight) - i) Adagio sostenuto
the later part is really difficult to play on the piano :P
Georgia Gator @ Oct 24th 2009 2:09PM
Thanks! :D
killdash9 @ Oct 24th 2009 10:44PM
For the record, the Moonlight Sonata is a piano piece, not an orchestral work. The orchestral music that is later in the trailer is nothing I recognize, but it's most likely either from a modern game soundtrack or "trailer music," i.e., music licensed for common use in trailers (like clip-art and fonts).
killdash9 @ Oct 24th 2009 2:34AM
I recognized (or thought I did) [guy from Hitman], Chun-Li/Ken/Ryu, Mario, Pengo, Sub-Zero, Arthur, Duke Nukem, and the Pong paddle . . . but who is the Japanese schoolgirl character? There is certainly no shortage of such characters in Japanese games, but is there a specific one she is supposed to be mimicking?
Mr. Trauts @ Oct 24th 2009 5:48PM
I'm guessing it's Mei Ling from the Metal Gear Solid series.
killdash9 @ Oct 24th 2009 10:34PM
Mei Ling wore a military uniform. It may have had a jacket and tie like this girl is wearing, but this girl's skirt is a Catholic school-style pleated skirt, not a military uniform skirt.
ryanmm311 @ Oct 24th 2009 5:42AM
Strange, I actually know the guy who was the Elf/Link/Whatever one. Work is work.
Levi @ Oct 24th 2009 9:50AM
This game actually looks really good. It looks like it will have less humor than Eat Lead, but better gameplay. Hope it turns out well.
PS anyone see the split second of Bioshock? Right before what I assume the mario level was?
Vartan @ Oct 24th 2009 11:53AM
Yeah...for the levels, here is what I spotted (not necessarily in order):
- Mirror's Edge
- Bioshock
- Team Fortress 2
- Super Mario Bros.
- The Ship
Mr. Trauts @ Oct 24th 2009 5:50PM
Looks like a decent side-scroller, here's hoping it keeps the humour of Eat Lead and combines it with good gameplay.
