Amazon is running a promotion right now 20 dollar gift card for any preorders of MW2 for any system.

Unfortunately that beats out my usual idea to preorder on steam.

Argh. I'm debating between Steam and Amazon. With Steam, I'd get the game earlier (unless I used 1 day shipping and processing from Amazon- which I won't) and achievements, but with Amazon I get the game for the same price as a normal PC game.

DAMMIT!

39.99 is 10 dollars cheaper then a 10 game.

not to mention it has free release date shipping (means your game arrives the same time you can get it in a store) if you are an amazon prime member, or know someone who is.

So it's like win, win.

@ special agent steve.

Actually, even if you buy the retail PC game off of amazon you get all the benefits of steam since it activates online using steam. You will have to wait for them to ship it to you, but if you order release day shipping you'll still get it day 1, or in some cases the day before it comes out.

Amazon has release-date shipping for just about $4. I always pre-order my games with Amazon and they always come on the game's release-date.

Steamed... I get it... I get it.

Though us PC gamers are more likely to not care about steam achievements because they don't give points that accrue into some platform-specific e-peen.

/2 cents from a PC gamer w/23,000 XBL gamerscore waiting for Borderlands to preload on Steam.

Its crazy how you can preload a game like that so when it drops... instant play! Got it for Steam too but thinking I'm going to regret it being my PC can only handle so much.

If they're worried about Cheaters in their dedicated servers, why not use VAC on them? Seriously... it won't outright kill the cheaters, but it'll point out and destroy the stupid ones, which are most of them.

They are, actually. IMO, it's just a ploy to use Steam as DRM as well. Forcing Steam use while using PB would make it too obvious. $60 price tag is also pretty obviously Mr. CEO's brightest idea for trying to make up 'lost money' on pirated copies of MW1.

It's not about cheaters or piracy. Activision is doing this because if the PC gamers can't run mods or custom maps, they will be forced by buy the DLC that they put out. They're just eliminating their competition so that their DLC will be the only solution for the players that get bored of the default maps.

Think about what would have happened if they tried to charge PC gamers for the DLC they released but the players could make their own maps or just download any custom maps for free. People would go out and just recreate any map that Activision/IW made and Activision wouldn't make any money off of it.

If Infinity Ward hadn't kill the game for me with their stupid decisions this news would be so welcomed and enjoyed by me, but the reality is that this game isn't a PC game anymore, just a POS console port.

Steam is awesome, and if the game had used their servers browser for the dedicated server would have been the best thing ever, cause IW can't make a server browser even if their life depended on it.

"POS Console port" is what I'd take over many PC games anyway.

Not like I'd play MW2 on a PC ever. The game fits better on 360 anyway.

How the hell does MW2 fit better on a 360? Only reason I'd see is if all your friends play on XBL. But a mouse and keyboard are awesome for me playing MW1, so many headshots.

I haven't played MW1 on an Xbox forever, did it use auto-aiming or what?

@ Kaemon

Yeah, the aim assist feature they have to implement because the analog sticks aren't accurate without them just screams "this game belongs on a console".

/sarcasm

While I don't think it's fair to call MW2 a "POS console port", it is clear that the console gamers were the primary audience. It's always a shame when features get removed from games so that the developer can nickel and dime the customer later.

The last time I checked, L4D used this method and everyone says how crappy it is. They say it takes forever to find a game and you still get crappy ping severs.

Valve have been consistently improving the matchmaking since launch. Finding a match takes about a second. Finding a server sometimes still takes awhile you might be put into a laggy server, but usually everything works fine.

Thinkin' 'bout scabbin'

Plus, whats wrong with using steam as DRM. Its a hell of a lot less obtrusive than punkbuster etc. Also, if you are a legit (aka non-pirate) pc user, why aren't you using steam for most of your games anyways?

Anyways, now I'm really conflicted

Punkbuster isn't DRM software it's in-game cheat protection. In fact now MW2 will be using VAC I think, instead of PB.

I don't use steam because I don't have to. All my games work fine without it and I like my game boxes so I buy in stores. I have nothing against steam, just saying is all.

Punkbuster is better tha VAC anyday of the week

try DOW2 it had must install retail copy through steam then instead of using all the steam stuff we were forced to use GfwL which is terrible, all because the BIGWIGS are like well console players dont have achievments they want achievments lets give em achievments and lets link it to a gamercard so then maybe theyll have an XBOX or they can link up to there current one

If Valve/Steam ever dies, then Valve can "press a button" to release all their games from the service, allowing you to back them up to a CD/DVD and play them like a regular game which you buy from a store.

of course the ramifications of this are worse in australia cod the ping situation alone will make MP mostly unplayable

The guy at EB is freaked cos he ordered a F'LOAD of PC copies cos he figured theyll sell even if they sat on the shelf before Xmas but now hes not so sure and he has an extra 25 copies from the canceled preorders

well MW2 is also the first game ive seen on steam that had a special price for australia in US dollars theve got it up there for 90US instead of the 60 it should be which means its gonna cost more in aus dollars than a retail version + im gonna have to download it + i wouldnt have a case

well they would be problems if i was buying it but its friggen ridiculous

i can accept that EB and tha put some ridonkulus arse MARKUP and jb just gets rid off it anyways but seriously IW would be setting the steam prices and its JUST BS

especially since they are yet to say there putting any of there magical servers in australia or giving us the option to only play with people in australia

BoyCott MW2 or youll play with the 5 yr olds that run around with nade launchers all the time and get a half decent KDR

You apparently know nothing. How much does it cost EB when a customer purchases a copy of a game that has an RRP of $119 AUD?

What do you consider a "ridonkulus arse MARKUP" for a retail product?
What do you consider a reasonable markup?
The Steam listing of $89.95USD on Australian Steam will currently save you money on the proposed RRP of $119.95AUD.

Why don't you start complaining to the PUBLISHERS about the price of games. Complaining about the retailers just highlights your lack of knowledge about the industry and who sets the prices.

" but seriously IW would be setting the steam prices and its JUST BS"

ok first i didnt say the publishers were innocent but while its the publishers that set the RRP in Australia this is nothing more than a dont go over this number

My main point in the arguement was less about the markups australia but the fact that were getting a special(ass raped) price point for a service that will most likely be terrible compared to what we used to have, and if anyone cares also 3 days after australia release since its the 12 in the states thats the 13th here when official release is the 10th

i still believe that EB has a larger markup than they should but this is allowed by the RRP set by the publisher. Tho it is not a you must sell at this pricepoint EB use the RRP so they can run a more profitable Used games empire if there new releases were at the 80 dollar avg that JB has then there Used ones would be like 60 only giving them 30 dollars plus the 5 theyd get from initial sale

where at 100-120 they can sell used copies at 80 which gives a +50 dollar + about 20-40 from the original sale.

if these guys actually stood up and said sumthing the prices that we have mightve changed but the way things are now its makes them decent enough money

If I was even interested in the game, the sixty dollar pricetag would be the biggest dealbreaker.

Attempts to force up the MSRP of PC Games need to be nipped in the bud. Especially when most the games coming out now are ports of 360 games.

Want it cheaper? buy boxed copies! Use steam when it's cheaper not when it's more expensive. When you do that then maybe just maybe Activision will learn. I bought a boxed copy for €49.50 including shipment so no way that I'm gonna buy a digital version for €10 more.

PS Boy do I wish the old steam back where I could just buy for $50

It does not help you aim, well at least I never use it that way. if that was true i would hardly ever die. lol mouse and keyboard haha old way. if i played on PC i would have a controller. any time i have ever played a PC game. i dont see why you think it is so good to use lol. and last but not least 360 players are the best players out there. Why you thing most all the of the MLG players are from 360 lol well almost all of them haha

His most profound and intelligent rant might seem like it came from a chihuahua, but it's really just another kid failing his way through public school. Or at least hopefully he's failing, if you can pass these days without a 5th grade understanding of spelling and grammar, we're all screwed.

As for MW2, I'll most likely still pick it up, but probably wait to see how exactly they are doing clan support. It's ticked off plenty of clan leaders and communities who have supported the COD franchise long before it was ever popular on consoles. Sadly, their decision to skip dedicated servers will only exacerbate piracy of the PC version, and gamers who were on the fence about purchasing it in the first place.

As far as the talk of the petition, even if 75-80% of the people who signed it buy it anyway, it will still amount to a multi-million dollar fuck-up by IW/ATVI.
