Now that there's a lighter in the shape of a Sega Saturn, we think
Segata Sanshiro would
insist that people start smoking. Through November 6, retailer Net-You is accepting pre-orders on these beautiful Sega Hard Memorial Zippo Lighters made by Banpresto, which feature the likenesses of the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Saturn, for ¥10,500 (roughly $115) each.
That's
quite a bit more than you'd pay for the
real systems in Akihabara, but, then, the
real systems can't get your "just light the bag" charcoal started.
Now is time to the 68000 cigarette on fire!

Blast processing at its finest.
ComicShaman @ Oct 23rd 2009 9:58AM
Blast furnace processing, maybe.
PojoMofo @ Oct 23rd 2009 9:47AM
$115 for a lighter seems reasonable.......if it had Mode 7
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:21AM
Some of the stuff you could light with it might make you feel like your world is running in Mode 7.
Anthony M. @ Oct 23rd 2009 1:12PM
I'd buy one if there was a Dreamcast version.
macrochelys @ Oct 23rd 2009 9:47AM
That looks amazingly not like a Sega Saturn
Ironhide @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:37AM
Not a north american that is. It's the japanese version of it.
Insert natural joke of about current gen systems generating so much heat they're their own lighters!
McBrick @ Oct 23rd 2009 9:48AM
For that price the damn thing better play actual MegaDrive games.
Or, maybe they can add an MP3 player attachment that looks like the Sega CD.
ElStefio @ Oct 23rd 2009 9:51AM
Not so keen on the Saturn one, but the Mega Drive one is all kinds of awesome.
vidGuy @ Oct 23rd 2009 9:52AM
This commercial for the Motorola Droid reminded me of the Nintendon't campaign. Good stuff.

"Not so keen on the Saturn one, but the Mega Drive one is all kinds of awesome."
Totally.
LegendaryRedass @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:07AM
The bottom part is supposed to be the Saturn, never saw one in silver though. The one on the left does look like a Genesis. That would be a cool Christmas present.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:11AM
The Japanese had different colors, but I don't think silver was part of it-just white, smoke, and black if I remember correctly.
NaeemTHM @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:08AM
If I smoked I would TOTALLY buy that.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:09AM
The Saturn looks like it has the Eclipse add-on.
Compare Sega Saturns lighters to lighters from Plaything.
Nap @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:13AM
I see what you did there Joystiq... well, Scooby Doo can doo-doo - but Jimmy Carter, is smarter
vidGuy @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:19AM
Huh? Are you too young to remember Sega's super-rad Nintendon't campaign?

Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:59AM
When gamers are too young to know their roots...I weep for the future.
Sega and Nintendo started the 'console wars'. Of course, this led to the creation of the 'fanboy', so it's not all good.
Nap @ Oct 23rd 2009 11:26AM
I know about the ad campaign. I was just trying to make a joke while referencing The Simpsons
:makes hand over head gesture:
WOOSH!

Hey Jostiq, don't made fun of the late SEGATA Sanshiro, he died in order to give us the Dreamcast.
Rest in Peace sweet prince ;__;.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:56AM

Awesome. RIP Segata ;_;
Stevetrop @ Oct 23rd 2009 1:35PM
I would suppose Segata Sanshiro wouldn't even need a lighter to light a cigarette. He'd do with a roundhouse kick
Shimrra @ Oct 23rd 2009 10:53AM
Damn if it was priced lower I definitely would have pick one up.
Oobgarm @ Oct 23rd 2009 11:01AM
Someone should make a Youtube video of themselves using one of these lighters to actually set one of the real consoles ablaze.
Nigeria: Charmy Bee DF @ Oct 23rd 2009 11:46AM
These are about as tacky as those gun lighters.
I'll take five.
Preston @ Oct 23rd 2009 12:18PM
$115? Frakking Christ. I might consider paying $15 or $20, but $115? Ugh.
Gamer4Life @ Oct 23rd 2009 2:16PM
If these were cheaper I'd buy them, alas they're not.
Mike E. @ Oct 23rd 2009 3:55PM
Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit smoking...
Diskoboy7 @ Oct 24th 2009 6:09PM
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin' glue.
Diskoboy7 @ Oct 24th 2009 6:15PM
It's things like this that make me glad I still smoke.
But I'd like to see an SMS and Dreamcast one, as well...
jquadman @ Oct 26th 2009 11:31AM
Those are undoubtedly bad ass, but there is no way I can justify the price tag to my wife.
