THQ forcing Star Wars: Trench Run onto iPhone
22
Because blowing up the Death Star never gets old, THQ is recreating the climactic space battle from the conclusion of the first Star Wars film in an all-new game for the iPhone. Star Wars: Trench Run will appear in the App store soon, IGN reports, and will feature a tilt-based control scheme. There's no word on a price yet, but given the platform, we're willing to bet even the scruffiest Nerf herder will be able to afford it.

I disagree. I have an ipod touch and I’ve made much effort to love it and feel it’s on par with psp or DS, but the truth is most of the games on it are either repetitive and bland shovelware or bare bones titles you could play for free on any flash site. There’s none of the complexity or refinement you’d find on any of the other systems and it shows. Basically, the entire system just feels like a bunch of cell phone games and titles that would be lambasted had they been put on any other system.
Except, Rolondo. There’s a game that at a conceptual level actually understands the unique features of its platform rather than merely shoving buttons on the screen like everyone else does. (I’m looking at you, Madden)

Snow,
I agree that a MASSIVE number of iPhone games are nothing but simple time wasters (as a good cellphone game should be), however there are a few exceptions. PuzzleQuest, Zenonia, and Wolfenstein RPG have all given me hours of entertainment. Moreover, those games are just as good as anything you would see on the DS.
I think given the right games, the iPhone and iPod Touch can be taken as serious gaming platforms.
Though as it is right now, the App Store is covered in tens of thousands of terrible, terrible software.

snowleopard233,
If you stick with the free or cheap games, you'll probably take away that opinion. I've found, however, that if you pony up for the quality productions out there, nine times out of ten, you get a really solid experience. Sometimes those quality productions are still under ten bucks, but I think you have to do some digging. Still, there are some games on the platform that give PSP and DS games a run for their money, in my opinion.
Peace,
manaman

mahouneko,
It appears that you can also play as a TIE Fighter against the Rebellion. Watch the video again, most of the gameplay shows the cockpit of an X-Wing. The TIE cockpit is only later.

This is the first iPhone game that really piques my interest. I loved the Death Star run in the old (OLD) Star Wars arcade game, as well as the new one. I'd pay a couple bucks for this (if I bothered with the iPhone.)
Also, yeah, that's a TIE cockpit. However, in the corner, it shows an X-Wing in the shield array.
Weird. Possibly stupid.

Khan: THQ tasks me. They task me, and I shall have X-Wing on XBLA. I'll chase them 'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round perdition's flame before I stop pleading for an X-wing vs Tie Fighter remake.

Actually, a price was already announced on the official Star Wars page. The game will launch at $4.99.

And me, I'm not an iPhone/Touch owner, but after seeing the video, I think my old iPod Classic might "accidentally" meet a terrible fate when I drop it on the day this game releases. I guess that means I'll be suck upgrading to the Touch!
