Fittingly, there is only one big-name, multiplatform game comfortable in the shadow of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's release next month: Assassin's Creed 2. While it's not the only game willing to test its selling power against the potential "bestselling title of all time" -- Left 4 Dead 2 seems aptly titled; and New Super Mario Bros. Wii should collect coin on its platform -- Assassin's Creed 2 is easily November's second-most significant multi-console release.
When pressed for comment about AC2 going up against MW2 and the possibility of his game (ha!) surpassing Infinity Ward's shooter in sales, Yannis Mallat, CEO of AC2 developer Ubisoft Montreal, admitted to VideoGamer.com that he was not "pretentious" enough to predict a sales outcome, but added, "I can certainly say there is no room any more for average or bad games, but there is still a lot of room for awesome games, and that's what Assassin's Creed is."
Internally, Ubisoft has set its standards high -- two years ago, the first Assassin's Creed moved 2.5 million units in its first month at retail to become the fastest-selling new game IP in U.S. history. Of course, two years ago, Call of Duty 4 was claiming records of its own. Ubisoft would not dare pit AC2 against MW2 in an outright sales challenge, but, in embodying its franchise's ethos, with a little patience, Ubisoft will almost certainly enjoy successful sales of AC2 over the course of the holiday season. After all, who among us has ever been content to settle on just one awesome game when there are many to enjoy?

It was slightly repetitive (ok, it had a lot of repetition) but I still thought it was fun. From what I've seen AC2 looks to be a lot more varied.

I trust that AC2 will be better. Either way I really liked the first one.

the repetition would have been fine if you got anything meaningful for it. As was, you just got more health -- and even then, you maxed health WAY before you finished all the side actions.
seriously: repetition is fine if the player is rewarded in a meaningful way! check out Saints Row 2. Sure, it's a meh game but that didn't stop a lot of people from doing the same side activity over and over again to unlock a reward. 6 nearly identical escort missions later and I couldn't complain: I had me a nice new car delivery service, a new unique weapon, or reduced heat when fighting a specific gang.

Ubisoft still makes the Imagine games. Those games are worse than bad, they're sholvelware. But I know AC2 will be good.

Ughh I hated the beggars! After I beat the game I killed every beggar that dared talk to the mighty Altair!:D

It was more willing to deal with beggars than those damn crazies!!! Those fucks would just randomly follow me around and shove me into guards or whathaveyou and then I'd have to run or fight.
And why the hell was I the only person the game to be harassed by the beggars or the crazies. I've got an arsenal of bladed weaponry on my back. Why are you bothering me!?
It got to the point that every beggar or crazy got shoved headfirst into the wall. You know why? Cus fuck 'em.

While I myself am getting AC2 over MW2, I'd suggest that you get MW2.
If you rent AC2 you'll likely be able to beat the single player, after which there won't be much left for you to do in it unless you are a completionist. MW2 on the other hand will have multiplayer that is sure to top the XBL charts week after week.

Go with AC2. You can tell that it's a much more original game than that of any Call of Duty game. Personally, I'm tired of shooters, and plus I fell in love with the first game. AC2 looks amazing, I think it's your best bet.

I'm going AC2 over MW2 but that's mainly cause I really liked the first one and what I've seen so far of the second one. plus when I get a game I always care more about the single player and I think that I will get more out of AC2's single player than MW2's. Then I move on to the multiplayer once I finish the single player (or in uncharted 2's case once I finish it a few times). People will be playing MW2's multiplayer for years it's not one of those games were to truelly enjoy it you need to play it launch week cause everyone ignores it after the first month. personally I was going to wait till I can get a good sale on MW2 if only to try and stick it to activision for ripping off gamers whenever possible. although I'm still kinda iffy on MW2 I know it will be great I'm just not the best person to ask cause I have really been enjoying the MAG beta. The scope of the battles is more to my liking, it plays more like a warzone then everyone just kinda running around shooting "Halo style" (nothing wrong with Halo style multiplayer)

Hi,
I respect you an all, and I'mma let you finish, but I'm from the future replaying this memory of my dashingly handsome ancestor, and in the future AC2 is rated the best game of all time. Of all time.

'cause if it's anyone who doesn't have a bias about a game, it's the developers.

Well that settles it; I'm buying AC2 at launch and then getting MW2 a few months down the track or pre-owned.
Every bit I can reasonably do to make AC2 beat MW2 for launch sales!

It is easily november's number one for me! =D
I'm a LOT more hyped about assassin's creed 2 and dragon age than I am with modern warfare 2. A LOT!

I'm fortunate enough to be picking up both, the original AC was a cool game, stalking guards and ganking the crap outta them. I don't know why Ubisoft would worry about AC2 going up against MW2 though.
I'm of the opinion that if AC2 had multiplayer, Ubisoft would provide dedicated servers.

It really bothers me that they make all the italian characters speak with an accent. Why can“t they just speak proper english instead? Or Italian with subtitles. We see that all the time in american TV too. Every foreigner has to be dubbed by someone with an accent. Like 80s action movies, where all the russians speak english with accents among themselves, lol.
I wonder if they stated that before the voice actors auditions: "You should be able to produce an authentic sounding italian accent for this part"!
Hey dumbasses - if you are dubbing in english, drop the f...ing accent!
At least they have italian accents, unlike the brazillian characters in Need for Speed Nitro, that have hispanic accents (they must all speak spanish in south america, cast a puerto rican dude!).

why are people getting down voted for saying they didnt enjoy the first game? i agree it wasnt for me. with games like uncharted 2, mw2, forza 3, borderlands and more i dont this one as being a must have. the first one was slightly better than average to me.

I don't even plan to get MW2. I will likelly get it used in six months.
I liked AC1. It was a good, clever game. Sure, the side content was a boring experience, but just the flow of moving, leaping, and action was just a blast. I still load up the game for 30 minutes or so of leaping around Damascus or Jerusalem every few weeks.
Here's hoping AC2 improves all the things AC1 did wrong, while keeping the freedom and the fun.

I dont get it, what was so good about the first one to warrant a sequel? Sure, graphically it was amazing, but other than that it was just terrible.
I am simply amazed that so many people actually liked AC.

I never got into the CoD series but wanted to check out MW...yet I still haven't. I guess the tired war theme is just not moving me to want to play yet ANOTHER war themed FPS. I was never a war movie buff and even with FPSs, I did the Medal of Honor thing for a while but got tired of it then picked up open or two "regular ole" war themed games since. Those games aren't exactly original.
That being said, I actually LOVED AC even though it was lacking in so many ways yet I realized how great a foundation it was for a sequel and it looks like Ubisoft is NOT going to disappoint this time around. I already have my pre-order for AC2 and the AC series is more original than the war themed FPSs. AC2 for me then I'll THINK about getting MW2 even before playing MW1.

This, of course, won't stop them from publishing more Imaginez titles.
