Chances are, you recognize Nolan North as Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. However, ever since the debut of the first game in the franchise, North has gone on to play a number of leading men, including the titular Prince of Persia and Jason from Shadow Complex. Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig admits that she's "thrilled to see people recognizing Nolan's talent and to see him getting all of the work that he can get and all of the recognition he can get." However, she tells Bitmob that she's "a little possessive" of North because "we were the ones with Uncharted who tapped into that talent in a way that I don't think anyone had recognized and done yet."
North will undoubtedly continue to find success as the charming "everyday" man (who happens to be gifted with extraordinary acrobatic prowess). Hennig admits that "Nolan's going to get typecast because that is his persona. He's a funny guy and has that easy-going, roguish charm." Yeah, charming -- until he throws you off a cliff.

Being extremely talented at voicing only one type of character is still being EXTREMELY talented. He's an awesome Nathan Drake, and from what I can tell, he's a damned good Deadpool. He's very effective and conveying ideas and emotions using only his voice. Which pretty much makes him a good voice actor.

So, if you hear him in 5 similar roles, and he gives you 5 stellar perfomances, you would still contend that he's not a good voice actor?
Okay.
What if he only ever had one role, and he gave a spectacular performance? Would he be a good voice actor then?
See the problem there? I understand where you're coming from. You're saying that because he might not be able to do a wide range of characters (and I say "might" because we just don't know at this point) that he isn't a good voice actor. But, the fact is, that within the range he does have, he does a great job of voice acting. Which, by default, makes him a great voice actor.

Dude, Steve Blum has THREE voices. The rough, gravelly Wolverine voice, the lighter Spike Spiegel/Captain Harlock voice, and the nasal sarcastic "Jamie from Megas XLR" voice. It's not exactly a Frank Welker-level range, but (a) he's very good at acting in those roles and (b) that's two more voices than some other actors have.

The difference is, Shamylan (sp?) went on to make crappy movies after Sixth Sense. Nolan has been consistent. You're saying that one great performance can make you great, but 5 great performances (although without much range) mean you have no talent. That's kinda backwards.

Nolan North is one of my favorite voice actors, but I really like Kristoffer Tabori and Jennifer Hale...

We at In-Game Chat had a chance to interview Nolan back in March and talked about all his other roles he was getting since Uncharted. Plus...dude is REALLY funny.

Nolan North is cool. But I hope that he can actually do more than one voice.
Not bad though for a Bruce Willis impressionist.
