Konami extremely confident in PES 2010, ships 3 million to Europe
Look, we know you Europeans love your soccer football, but GI.biz is reporting that Konami has shipped three million copies of PES 2010 to the region today. Three million -- that's like Halo 3 numbers, people!
While we're willing to bet you Euros are chomping at the bit for more pitch play, we're curious if PES 2010 needs such a hefty initial shipment -- especially since FIFA 10 has been out and selling really well. Have footy fans had their needs fulfilled? Apparently not, since Konami expects the game to "become a million-selling title at launch."
"Global sales for the PES series to date are over 55.5 million, and we expect a very strong performance from what is easily the best PES in a long, long time," says Martin Schneider, Konami's European marketing director. He credits the rise in quality and buzz to the latest iteration to the fans, whom he expects to stick around as Konami starts charging toward DLC for the game.

An an American, let me be the first to say it.
Meh.
Baseball is better.
TriniBreds @ Oct 24th 2009 12:12AM
Must be a really lonely feeling as far as the entire world is concerned....
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 24th 2009 12:15AM
The Prime Minister would like to speak with you. Let me just tell you right now, he's a "no-nonsense" kind of guy.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 24th 2009 12:16AM
Yep, I'm really scared of Gordon Brown...not.
When the zombie apocalypse comes, which sport will leave you better prepared? The game that uses an inflatable ball? Or the game that uses steel/wood bats, cleats, and balls that can be fired at speeds of over 100MPH?
Special Agent Steve @ Oct 24th 2009 12:22AM
And here I was thinking NASCAR would be the best sport to prevent a zombie apocalypse.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 24th 2009 12:23AM
Stock cars aren't built for off-roading. Hence why I drive a truck.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 24th 2009 12:25AM
Wouldn't a good ol' kick to the face be good against those zombies? That is, if you have a good leg. Ah, well you can't beat a classic wooden bat.
Dr. Bradwart @ Oct 24th 2009 12:26AM
Exactly. Valve has learned that.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 24th 2009 12:29AM
"And here I was thinking NASCAR would be the best sport to prevent a zombie apocalypse."
Technically no it's not, since it's not a sport.
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Oct 24th 2009 12:52AM
baseball is slow like golf.
soccer is boring as well, you just see the players pass balls one to another.
football is the real shit.
Dr. Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 24th 2009 12:57AM
"football is the real shit"
Eliminate 'the' from that sentence and I'd agree with you. I'd rather watch golf (as long as its Mickelson) than football.
Night Elve @ Oct 24th 2009 1:07AM
@sony boy
Ah you mean hand egg: http://www.dailyhaha.com/_pics/hand_egg.htm
Because you know football is the one that you play with your feet.
DBuck_Eye @ Oct 24th 2009 1:17AM
We're talking about the entertaining football, not the European one. But I think we should put aside our differences and agree that golf is incredible.
Ridgecity @ Oct 24th 2009 1:44AM
It is better thats why it was even dropped from the olympics since no one care to make a team... and even then Cuba beats them every time.
As for the game, the only problem it has is EA pays a ton of money for promotion and has all leagues worth a dime. But the gameplay in 10x better in this one.
Dr. Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 24th 2009 1:49AM
It was dropped from the Olympics because the IOC is a bunch of anti-American pigs, not because the sport wasn't popular. They were getting back at the U.S. and 'that evil man' Bush.
Really, I'm glad Chicago wasn't picked. A: We can't afford it. and B: Who cares anymore? Seeing the same four or five countries win every time can get dull after a while.
Anti-Villian @ Oct 24th 2009 5:07AM
Why do you put Dr. in front of your name? it's kind of misleading.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Oct 24th 2009 5:36AM
The European one? Don't you mean the entire world outside of North America one? As for the popularity, it isn't even a contest if you think about it.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 24th 2009 5:41AM
This is the joy of you being a minority Dr :) Thank god nobody here is like you, otherwise I'd have noone to talk about the greatness that is football / soccer :D
Markez (attempting to call me less of a man because i knew so much about pans) @ Oct 24th 2009 6:26AM
Please stop making Americans sound like idiots. Whichever name you call it, soccer is fantastic and can be as exciting as any predominant American sport. It's just not as popular here, and it's just not as good here. Perhaps you haven't left your comfort bubble here within US borders, otherwise it's kind of easy to get a taste of the culture and excitement that can accompany good soccer. Or if you did, you probably just weren't paying attention.
LegendaryRedass @ Oct 24th 2009 7:24AM
I think the reasons soccer hasn't taken off here are numerous. One, the constant and neverending riots. Two, the targeting and murder of opposing teams players and fans. Three, piss and blood bombs. Four, if you so much as look at a soccer player the wrong way, he drops like he was hit by sniper fire.
Melao @ Oct 24th 2009 8:04AM
The real reason for Football not taking off in the USA, is because you could miss a key event when you buy a hot dog. Differently from Baseball in which you can fill your belly without worries.
Next year is world cup year, the whole world will stop to watch.
Except the US of course.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 24th 2009 8:07AM
LegendaryRedass, I think someone is very misinformed.
Yeah, one, there are hooligans, but that's unavoidable, certain individuals get silly when thier team looses / wins, that doesn't apply to every fan / a majority of the fans, I don't go around rioting and causing trouble and I'm one of the biggest fans you could come across. Two, targeting and murder of opposing players and fans? What? Are we talking in general here or about one specific incident, because I'm sure we could highlight a few events in most sports, people don't go around murdering players and fans otherwise most of the world wouldn't enjoy the sport, it would have a bad reputation. Three, piss and blood bombs? Where are you getting all this information from? And four, again, a general statement, every sport has its annoying points, which is why we don't all enjoy every sport, there are some we do and some we find pointless for certain reasons, there are loads of reasons I could point out Nascar makes no logical sense to me, but what difference would that make to the fans that enjoy it?
Space @ Oct 24th 2009 10:01AM
youse guys can argue about feetballs all you want but to support the original comment.... baseball is the best sport ever.
that being said....go phillies!
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 24th 2009 10:22AM
Only to space
Keklol @ Oct 24th 2009 11:52AM
Yeah, exactly. What sport keeps you better prepared, the one where you run 10 km (sorry 6.2 miles) each game and where you are physically fit, or the one Elvis Presley could've played right before he died? Only other time I see so many fat people playing a "sport" is when I'm watching poker.
Rodrigo @ Oct 24th 2009 12:34PM
Football is for "Unitedstatians"
Soccer is for "Americans"
Don´t wasted your fingers arguing about wrong names in the internet.
Football for "not Soccer" is as wrong as calling someone who born in USA an American.
Rodrigo @ Oct 24th 2009 12:38PM
waste, WASTE!!!
The lack of edit button Wastes fingers...
Dr. Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 24th 2009 12:38PM
You guys are really, really pathetic. Space, I have to agree-go Phillies. (Since my Sox were knocked out)
Rodrigo, when you control the world you can call yourself whatever you damn well want. The United States of America. The name of the country is America, a collection of 'united states'. If you were using the continental names, you'd be 'North Americans' and 'South Americans'.
Rodrigo @ Oct 24th 2009 12:41PM
But Mexicans and Canadians are North-Americans too.
North-American for USA´s guys is still wrong!
Dr. Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 24th 2009 12:46PM
Canada and Mexico are mere bystanders in the world scheme. Quit the rampant anti-Americanism. We are Americans, citizens of America, and we've got the might (and the guts) to back that up.
By your definition, the British, Scottish, and Irish are 'United Kingdomites'.
And Europe would be 'European Unionites'.
Good day.
Rodrigo @ Oct 24th 2009 12:50PM
I´m not an Anti-american or Xenophile.
but i´m arguing with someone who thinks everybody is...
=(
Rodrigo @ Oct 24th 2009 12:51PM
Oh! How rude... Have a nice day!
PSN: John Paul Jones | last.fm http:bit.ly11nCrv @ Oct 24th 2009 1:00PM
It's good Canadians are bystanders! We always have the best seats to watch nations trash each other over stupid things!
thatguy @ Oct 24th 2009 1:43PM
Actually, American football is for homo's. Who else likes guys hugging each other in some yoga pants?
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 24th 2009 2:47PM
I wouldn't bother arguing with Dr, I think he left his brain on planet zog, lol
Space @ Oct 24th 2009 4:02PM
before you give us crap about "stealing" the term americans.
how many englishmen have "stolen" the term british for themselves?
Why does a british accent always refer to a english accent?
How many englishmen refer to the union jack as their national flag as opposed to St. Georges Cross?
what now?
SoshiKitai @ Oct 24th 2009 4:12PM
Everyone just shut up and go outside and play a sport!
I play ultimate Frisbee!
Melao @ Oct 24th 2009 4:32PM
The funny thing is that the best players are neither from the USA, nor Europe.
They are Americans, from the south. More specifically from Brazil. :)
Dr. Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 24th 2009 4:48PM
And nobody cares. Again, people from Brazil do not consider themselves to be 'Americans'. Please stop perpetrating myths.
The Doctor: 1. Everyone else: 0.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 24th 2009 5:04PM
I wouldn't quite say brazilians are the best players, but they are definatly in the top 5, along with Italy, France (when it's at its best) portugal and a few other teams I enjoy watching :D
MrAlex @ Oct 24th 2009 6:38PM
@space
the first two points are utter crap, the english dont use the term british to describe themselves, nor do they believe in something called a british accent, or even an english accent for that one, (a geordie sounds completely different to a cockney). Those are merely a view that certain other countries have.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 24th 2009 7:22PM
Countries and ignorant individuals who know nothing other what is within thier area code at that MrAlex ^^
MrAlex @ Oct 24th 2009 7:39PM
Yeah I spose so
Ridgecity @ Oct 24th 2009 7:54PM
This doctor is one crazy gringo.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 24th 2009 12:11AM
This is obviously some sort of joke, right? Sorry, I'm just a little flabbergasted right now. I mean, I always knew, uh...football was huge in Europe, but this is pretty insane.
SoshiKitai @ Oct 24th 2009 12:14AM
How can you NOT be confident for this game?
I mean, look at the picture! That man is seriously stoked about this.
....that, or seriously frightened that there's a floating logo blocking his next pass.
TriniBreds @ Oct 24th 2009 12:15AM
No different from how RPGs are Huge in Asia or FPSs are Huge in the U.S. . . . I'd say
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 24th 2009 12:19AM
@SoshiKatai You're right. Gosh, that guy is pretty intense. Must be stimulating to see something like that on a cover, haha.
@TriniBreds Good point. But still, doesn't it seem just a tad shocking?
Anti-Villian @ Oct 24th 2009 5:11AM
I think he looks shocked... maybe it's a precursive emotion.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Oct 24th 2009 5:46AM
A quick web search shows that PES 09 sold over 6 million copies. An intelligent guess would be that the bulk of these sold in the holiday period, which would be shipping now. So not so crazy really.
