Good for them. I think the last few Pro Evos weren't very good and FIFA finally took over. But I'm not sure about the latest one. I wasn't planning on buying any sports games this year so I'll wait for this epic battle next year (FIFA vs. Pro Evo will live on).

Well, if you're going to use references, do them correctly. A landfill in Mexico is not famous in gaming history; the one in New Mexico is.

@ Reuben.

Wrong link, that's comparing FIFA 09 with PES2010.

Here's the link for FIFA 10 for a proper metacritic score comparison:

Whoops. Yeah, that's '09, meant '10.

It's not dumpster worthy scores (they're great scores) but the same shit happened with E.T.

Atari shipped WAY to many units, and it turned out to be a mediocre game. So, hence, the landfill.

Konami has some pretty big bawls trying to ship that many units out at launch with FIFA 10 out. Either they're stupid, or they're very confident in their game.

Judging from the demo and some of the user responses, it appears they're the former.

They've got all that money from Metal Gear, I guess. As long as Rising and Peace Walker do well, they can lose some cash on a gamble.

Agreed, they are stupid.

Their servers are the same old crappy lagfest, the only difference in this years iteration is that some new graphics have been added, a whole new engine apparently.

Same the game still plays like a bag of shite.

They lost their way after PES5, and fifa never looked back in surpassing them as the provider of GOOD, lifelike football on a console.

Long live EA. Konami (CONArmy!) decided to do it their way, instead of listening to their customer base (like EA did) now look where things have progressed too.

PES lovers, have defected, only the insane has stuck with PES and call it the 'better' game, yes, even FIFA with its 64 (known) bugs, is STILL a much more accomplished game.

you think they'd start pushing them up a bit to get more sales, guess not...

the majority of the buying and selling of players happens right at the end of the transfer window which ends basically at the start of the new season. FIFA and to a lesser extent PES want the players bought and sold to be on the correct team, reflecting reality, so they wait until the window closes so they can make those adjustments

"Global sales for the PES series to date are over 55.5 million, and we expect a very strong performance from what is easily the best PES in a long, long time," says Martin Schneider.

If you replace the word "best" with "worst" then I completely agree with you Martin.

I was one of the many PES fanboys for years, but PES is just truly truly awful now, it's unbelievable how far out of touch Konami truly are, the fact they think PES is going to sell that many or truly compete with FIFA is just delusional.

How is the PC version? With FIFA 10, EA decided to give the PC version a PS2 era graphics engine when it is far more powerful than the current consoles, what a fucking insult. Why did they even bother when they aren't releasing Madden and other games for the PC anymore....

EA, Activision, Epic, etc. assemble to destroy PC gaming!

The PC version is identical to the console version. It doesnt really matter though, other than the graphics PES still uses the PS2 engine even on consoles. Either way youre going to get a PS2 game on the PC.

It could be the "best PES in a long, long time", but FIFA10 is the "best football game EVER". Poor guys at Konami, they're going to get their arse kicked another year in terms of game sales. And this is not fanboyism, just look at all the reviews, PES is only going to sell well in Italy (because they buy only that and GTA games) and in Japan.

I played PES 08 and PES 09, and enjoyed both of them thoroughly. The only FIFA I had played was FIFA Street (1 and 2, but I didn't like 2 very much). But, when it came to '10 I tried out the demos for both and I have to admit I really liked FIFA 10 a lot more. Something about PES 10 felt wrong to me, and I don't know why.

So much anti-Americanism around here.
All started because someone called the game "soccer".

The world's quite touchy, ain't it?

It's like the idea of those fights that break out over "color" and "colour", "theater" and "theatre"... and the most dreaded of them all: how do you pronounce "scallop".

The “soccer” word only makes sense in US lol, the rest of the world names things as they are ment to be. :)

I understand, but we Americans just tend to give things names without really thinking about it.... often having rather ironically named objects, places, and institutions because of it.

But hey, a lot of things out there don't make sense when you really think of the world... like a "building".
But I suppose that's not the point. Fact is, we just called it "soccer" just because.... well........ I never really looked it up. All I know is that we call it soccer and have another sport named football which is a protected-form of rugby.

It only bothers the rest of the world that we have these two different sports when we say either of their names. Other than that, the rest of the world just ignores it and just continues to play. :P

But seriously, I think "scallop" should be pronounced the same way as "gallop".

The thing with Pro Evo is, it's still the same approach to football as it has always been. In the glory years of PES, FIFA was risible, arcade nonsense, so of course ISS/PES felt like a sim. Now FIFA has become a simulation, it's more like Gran Turismo or Forza to PES's Project Gotham Racing; a semi-realistic, fun approach to the subject.
