It's rare that we hear anything but doe-eyed optimism from publishers of yet-to-be-released games -- however, Activision's Kai Huang, co-creator of the Guitar Hero franchise, recently voiced some fairly realistic expectations for the upcoming disc-spinning rhythm title, DJ Hero. "We're expecting this to be the type of game that may come out of the gate a little bit slower, but continue to grow over time," Huang explained during a speech at the PLAY Digital Media Conference in Berkeley.
Huang mentioned that while overall sales will be bolstered by the Hero part of the game's moniker, the DJ portion may scare potential players off -- causing Activision to focus on in-store demos to push the product on passersby. If we were unenlightened of DJ Hero's existence, we'd probably be snared by the siren call of the demo unit's mash-up of "Hollaback Girl" and "Give it to Me." Curse you, Stefani/James!

Hey, can you tell your company to do a Guitar Hero: Beatles and Call of Duty: Renaissance Warfare? I'm sure they'd sell millions.

I played the demo a few times in a row due to morbid curiosity. I got really good at it, but that doesn't mean I liked it. I'm passing on this one. Thanks anyways Activision.

I've been a proffesional DJ for 19 years now, and I am not the least bit interested in DJ Hero.
The music selection is one factor. With the exception of Daft Punk and the Beastie Boys, I loathe the other artists on the playlist. There's too much pop and hip-hop, and not enough house or trance.
And second off, DJ'ing, nowadays, is about keeping the beat and music consistent. Scratching has become cliche, and that's what this game looks like - one big scratching contest. And not being able to use PC DJ controllers that are already avalible is another stike against this game. I'd rather use my Numark Omni Control, instead of having to pay $130 for another DJ controller.

It's a game about mostly hip-hop. This is like complaining that there is too much guitar music in Rock Band.

mashups with artist that are hip hop does not make the game hip hop. Not to get racial but only a largely white hip hop club would be playing mashups of gwen stefani. Real hip hop clubs aren't playing this shit. This is hip hop to the hipster crowd. The Daft Punk crowd. you want to make a hip hop dj game end that daft punk stuff. Get rid of the mash ups, and make the dj not follow a completely set pattern and let him actually simulate mixing and beat juggling etc etc etc.

It's quite funny actually, launching on the same day as Forza 3, ouch, the symbol of Activision greed (oh another Hero game), ouch, and the price for the game and table, double whammy. I want this game but I'm broke after two B2G1 free sales and now Best Buy is on that train lol. 120 bucks, two games oh, now its 3! Bam!

i play guitar.
Guitar hero is fun.
I DJ'd for a long time.
DJ hero is not fun.
It's nothing like DJing. There are no fucking buttons on the face of a record. And no self respecting turntablist would be playing that hollaback girl mashup crap. This is a DJ game for people who don't have a clue what DJing and moving a crowd is all about.

Too deep. Too nerdy whiteboy hipster for me. You want a hip hop game. Don't make it this whiteboy, Kanye west shit, mtv, pop shit. Make it hip hop for people that know djing and hip hop. Any real turntablist knows there are no buttons on a record and and any real hip hop dj don't play gwen stefani. Go back to watching the Hills.

Go to hell? Wha wha. Save you whiny crying? Neither game is that great and i'm not paying for either but at least guitar you finger notes with your left and strum with your right. I've never scratched tapping buttons on a record or rocked a party with one turntable. Not hip hop. It's hip Pop.

If Activision didn't have anything to do with Guitar Hero until Guitar Hero II (the first was published by RedOctane alone), how is Kai Huang a "co-creator" of a Harmonix series?
Posted: Oct 26th 2009 12:12PM whymog said
Oh hey, research. Looks like Kai Huang was a founder of RedOctane, and of course, Activision acquired RedOctane when the Harmonix thing fell apart for Activision: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RedOctane
