- 1UP (A): "I'm a casual fan of the series and I still found myself excited to get home and play the game each night the past week. It may be a lot of more of the same, but more of the same has never been so darn addicting."
- IGN (90/100): "Insomniac has created a visually appealing game with enough personality to match its good looks. With so much to level-up and enjoy, there's enough to keep even hardcore Ratchet fans coming back for more -- especially with the new Clank sections that feature some enthralling puzzles. Now that the awkward space sections from Tools of Destruction have been replaced, there's almost nothing I don't like about Crack in Time. Unfortunately, as Crack in Time still relies heavily on the tried and true Ratchet Formula, gamers that were satisfied with old Ratchet games might not have enough reasons to come back."
- GameTrailers (89/100): "If A Crack in Time is indeed the final Ratchet & Clank game, then the series has been finished the right way-with a solid game that doesn't stray from what fans love while giving them plenty of service in the process. And in this way, it's also guilty of playing it a bit safe, but when expectations are that high, and are met, it's a sure sign of a quality game."
- Videogamer (80/100): "Fans of Ratchet and Clank will find A Crack in Time to be more of the same, with a few twists here and there. It's a fine end to the current storyline and packs in loads of content that will see you playing well beyond the closing credits. The lack of fresh ideas, especially during Ratchet's sections, will be seen by many as a negative, but there are so few games that nail the action platforming genre that it's easily forgivable. If you're looking for a fun, imaginative, family friendly PS3 game, A Crack in Time fits the bill perfectly."
- Eurogamer (70/100): "But I've been playing R&C games for years now, and I was hoping for something extra. That doesn't mean radical change - goodness knows no one wants Ratchet to "go dark" or start running round sandbox environments. I still want a meat feast pizza, I just want it to have a stuffed crust. And maybe some dips. Or in other words, a proper selection of exciting new weapons, original puzzles and a bit of innovation. It's not that A Crack in Time is all fur coat and no knickers. The problem is, it's all fur coat and the same knickers it's been wearing for seven years. Time for a change."
Metareview: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3)

Not everyone is brave enough to venture through the cracks in time -- well, Ratchet and Clank are. The duo has found no reason to retire and have once again set out for adventure within your PS3. The latest entry in the series -- Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time -- promised to bring an epic story and non-stop chimpin' action this time around. Has it delivered?

But since Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal is a PS2 game and you probably don't have a backwards compatibility PS3 and even if you do, you may not be able to find the game, just start with the first R&C PS3 game, R&C Future: Tools Of Destruction.
All you need to know about R&C:UYA is that Dr. Nefarious ended up stranded on an asteroid with his loyal obnoxious butler xD
Now the question is, how the hell did he get off the asteroid for his comeback in a Crack in Time?

This is one of the few great platformers left and Eurogamer only real complaint was that is more of the same.Perhaps if Insomniac changes it into FPS it would satisfy Eurogamer's pickiness (maybe not).

I played the demo and the visuals look the same as Tools of Destruction. I thought this next installment would have looked much better =\. Can anyone confirm? Gameplay wise, though, R&C is still the same yet still awesome.

Yeah, I'll buy R&C FOR SURE, as I love everything the franchise to bits, but the demo's graphics kind of disappointed me. The cutscenes are great but I really was expecting more from the graphics department. I guess this is the disadvantage of playing Uncharted 2 -.-'

I have the game and I love the series but I can't understand how they still get over 7 with each game. I mean what is this the 11th R&C title in 7 years?
Posted: Oct 26th 2009 9:02PM JuanLovesHorror said
Well do you think COD will still be receiving high score after it gets in the 20 sequels range?(answer is yes). One key difference is that there's hundreds of FPS(basically) this gen and very very few platformer/shooter games; so when one finally comes out like R&C it shouldn't be looked down upon.

Well I don't think COD deserves the praise it gets either (except for creating an epic singleplayer experience). Ratchet & Clank is great fun for sure but not much has changed in the rapid fire releases of sequels/remakes. I think they should ditch Resistance and R&C and start on a new platformer. I love platformers and need some new characters to enjoy.

This is ONLY the 6th console game of R&C (Quest For Booty was a PSN release that hardly counts) in two generations. Then there are 2 (I think) PSP games that were later made into PS2 games (Secret Agent Clank and Size Matters).
You don't understand why it gets over 7? Maybe because it's great? Think before you write.

Quest for Booty does count jackass, maybe if you were actually a fan of the series you'd know it was a full expansion. I said it was a good game but not much has changed in the 11 games/remakes. A remake is still a game friend, they had added and removed content as well. Not enough has changed in the long running heavily saturated series to really warrent such a high rating out of 10. It is a fun game with amazing boss battles but R&C has always been that. The developer needs to kill off their muddy FPS Resistance and their beaten R&C series and make a new platformer ip. Why is that such a bad thing? As a gamer we should all be looking for the next "new and exciting" thing from our favorite developers.

So, there are 9 total console games and 2 handheld ports for the PSP. That's 9 new titles in 7 years, but 11 total.

This is the same guy defending Operation Flashpoint so he doesn't know much about quality assurance in games. Ignore him.

I believe we are doing exactly what Eurogamer wants: Is anyone discussing the 9 IGN gave, or the 89 from GameTrailers? No. We are discussing Eurogamer's 7, since it didn't follow the "high grade" logic from the other sites. Let's think about it...What do you actually remember about the scores of a game? All the 20 high scores from many famous gaming sites and magazines, like ProGamer or Official Nintendo PS360 magazine, or that single low score magazine/website/all options X™ gave to it? Sure, it's not good being know for giving low grades or not finishing the work, but hey, any publicity is good publicity.

Did anyone actually read Eurogamer's review though, or just their review score?

You should jump right in! Great game, but it can be beaten in two afternoons easily. My first playthrough on normal was 7 hours and 8 minutes, and that's with me taking my time to enjoy the game. Really fun but there damn well better be some DLC to extend it's life.

I think its best to just ignore Eurogamer's reviews if you dislike their ratings, I can understand why people dislike that site for reviews, because they give games like Halo 3 and Fable 2 perfect scores while they give good PS3 exclusives lower then the former. You can't really call it an honest and fair reviewing site if all they do is give high praises to one video game console while giving lower scores to the competitor. Check all their reviews on nearly all Xbox360 exclusive games and compare them to PS3 exclusives, you will noticed why people get upset when they see their score.
Also, their members are quite simple minded, a PS3 exclusive game gets a 9 and suddenly becomes a fail to them.
I honestly like to look at reviews to see what a certain game received. It got pretty solid scores despite its lack of Multiplayer. I know Insomniac cares little about media reviews and focuses on the fan's reaction, I'm sure Insomniac will not disappoint.
I'm going to pick this up next month, wallet's dry this month, looking forward to seeing the final conclusion to the Ratchet and Clank series.

I'm thinking on get to know this series starting from this one. Is it possible to understand the story even though I've never played any R&C before?

My real question is, is it better than Going Commando? I still feel like that was the best R&C game by a wide margin.

i still think they should have called it R&C F:Clock Blockers like the rumor said.

Gotta love how sticking to an amazing game formula that works is looked at as a bad thing. I guess since ratchet and clank has not gone sand box yet we should all just stop enjoying how freaking awesome it is.
