I wouldn't second guess this not to be true. COD4 used to glitch out sometimes and I was able to play in a 3rd person view. Unfortunately, it was before I got a decent camera to record it. I honestly couldn't recreate that glitch again if I tried but I know it consists of clicking L3 and/or R3 after you die and are about to respawn. Someone may have captured it on youtube by now as it was over a year since the glitch happened to me.

sorry to be slightly irrelevant (slightly because the vids show it IS true) but here are some leaked multiplayer videos. watch 2 if you want to see 3rd person play.

be quick since i doubt it'll stay up long.

Don't forget folks, this is a SEPERATE playlist. If you do not want to play third person than you do not have to. Everyone is either playing in third person, or they are not, and you can not switch between the two viewpoints.

I must say I like this idea. It will feel like a different game, and will be good when you get tired of the regular view. I remember when I was tired of Left 4 Dead a while back, I used the console commands to get a third person working. A different perspective does change the feeling of the game dramatically.

Not buying MW2 because it doesnt support dedicated servers or modding tools which means id only play it for a month and be bored so ill save my $60 (for L4D2) and so will 50% of the PC community.

Ah that's pretty damn cool. I wonder how it'll be. Hopefully they'll have 3rd person view only playlists on the public servers as well.

Actually rereading it carefully (or reading it right the first time) actually tells you it'll be available on private matches and certain 'special' public playlists as well.

"The special mode can only be played in private matches... or in playlists that are designated for third-person play."

Why do you need 3rd person only playlists? Because like they say, you'll be locked in that view. I think it's pretty damn nice extra perk to spice things up.

This is something I would love to see implemented in more games....it was the coolest feature of MSG4 imo...where you could switch wherever you wanted. I wonder why more games don't use it (besides costs, technical crap, etc). I would love to be able to do it in Uncharted 2, at least in some points it'd help to be able to go to FP.

Watching vids earlier this morning i can say for certain that there are 3rd person playlists. There is a 3rd person TDM and hardcore cage match. Course all of this is form a pre launch playlist. More may be add by launch.

Sounds like it, no? They've seen how wildly popular Uncharted 2 is, so they want in on that crowd. Doubt they'll get it, though... Uncharted 2 isn't just an FPS in third-person.

Well you see, by making it third person, it would no longer be first person. FPS means first person shooter you dinglewad

I think Brodo's point was the literal use of the terms "first person" and "third person". Meaning if you are playing in one, you can't necessarily be playing in the other at the same time.

While giantenemycrab's point was, why would you want to play in a game that was built from the ground up to play as an FPS game, in a TPS view?

Would be nice if they had demo recording, like Valve and BF2. Then this mode would be ideal for videos.

theyd probably be even more useful since this is likely to be a little unwieldy, it's not like it's gonna have a whole detailed cover system tacked on so it'll probably be pretty awkward

Awesome.

I hope there's also a dedicated "Spectate" mode. Not only does it help people who are not good or new to the game, it's just very entertaining t.v. to watch while eating dinner or doing boring chores, like ironing...,

You'll have to go into Dedicated "Spectate" playlists, and you cannot fight in this playlist, only Spectate. No going between modes in this playlist. It's just everyone watching the map do nothing because no one is fighting.
