Grand Theft Auto has always been heavy on satire, making exaggerated observations about the world for the sake of a few cheap yuks. It's readily apparent on the in-game radio programs, which poke fun at both extremes of political talk radio. The in-game TV programming does much the same (if you haven't, we suggest you make time to watch "Republican Space Rangers"). It looks like The Ballad of Gay Tony will continue the tradition with "Princess Robot Bubblegum," an anime parody to be featured on the in-game CNT channel. The show will serve as part of the new TV lineup in the upcoming expansion.
In Rockstar's own words, "Princess Robot Bubblegum" features the hallmarks of more than a few animes: "Incomprehensible narrative, wretched dialogue and creepy, misogynistic sexuality." See it all in the trailer above.
It's always fascinating to me to see what left-wingers think is 'balanced'. GTA4 has a radio channel completely devoted to a blowhard, obvious Rush Limbaugh mockery; various commercials making fun of stereotypical 'Republican' talking points on other channels; the 'Republican Space Rangers' show ... and that's balanced by ... what exactly? Oh, yeah, they make light fun of hippies.
I mean, it's a game and all, but don't pretend it's equal mocking of 'both sides'. This is Obama-style 'bipartisanship', or as the rest of the world knows it: partisanship.
Republicans make it too easy to make fun of them, that's why.
That rush limbaugh parody was spot on though, pulled off flawlessly. I look forward to the next one when they have an escaped psychotic inmate playing Glenn Beck.
"Republicans make it too easy to make fun of them, that's why."
Exactly what I was thinking. I don't think it really has anything to do with Rockstar being against republicans and all to do with the fact that not only are Republicans easy targets, but it's pretty damn funny.
"don't pretend it's equal mocking of 'both sides'."
What the fuck are you talking about? Rockstar has never, ever claimed that they are trying to "equally mock both sides." You are the only person who has ever said that. They are not goddamn Jay Leno.
They make fun of idiots, and I absolutely guarantee they don't give a shit if you think they are "fair and balanced."
Just so we're on the same page here... you think that video games are supposed to have a balanced worldview and what... journalistic integrity?! What exactly are you going for here... did you just want to piss and moan about the fact that the game made fun of your political beliefs more than it did other people? Grow up and don't play the game if it offends you that much jerky.
And don't bring politics into it, it's a game that indulges criminal fantasy, your attempts to politicize things and draw parallels between politics and this game are pathetic at best. Do you do the same thing with children's television? I ask because it's equally appropriate, moron.
To add to this, parodies of liberals usually end up being kind of unfunny anyway. The extremes of bigotry and rednecks are much better targets than Communism and radical environmentalism. Watch King of the Hill, then The Goode Family. Most of the really successful liberal parodies (see: everything the South Park guys do) take popshots at the culture surrounding it instead, like the smugness and excessive use of celebrities, but even that only gets them so far.
It doesn't have to be balanced if that makes it less funny.
They're a Scottish developer. Outside America, the entire damn world laughs at the Republicans. American politics are a joke, and your party is the punchline.
Maybe you should join a party that isn't led by the certifiably insane?
No politician in the world cares about you, except (maybe) if you're closely related by blood. The party label makes no difference. All these idiots are the same.
For me, the funniest thing about left-wingers is the fact that they think there's nothing funny about their beliefs ... just like the devotees of any other religion.
There's nothing wrong with being conservative, but we don't have
Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O Reily and Michael Savage...all people who are ignorant, hateful, racist, and stuck in some 1950s America that doesn't exist anymore. If you're an actual conservative you should do yourself a favor and cut yourself off of them, because those people are why a majority of people laugh at republicans nowadays.
The tea party people didn't really help your guys' case either.
No you just have Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Michael Moore, Bill Maher, Maureen Dowd, Paul Krugman, Chris Matthews, Anderson Cooper, and a never-ending list of smug, preening jackasses who routinely misportray their ideological opposites to feed the tiresome, juvenile stereotype that anyone who is Conservative is 'racist' and 'bigoted', all in service to the worst President this country has seen.
Seriously, get over yourself. Those 'hateful' people you're talking about uncovered and deposed a 9/11 truther and helped expose the corrupt organization that is ACORN. And if you ever bothered to listen to or read any of them you'd undoubtedly find out that the lies you've been fed regarding them are explicitly designed to keep you from ever questioning the neverending stream of left-wing propaganda that comes down the mainstream media pipe.
And attacking the tea partiers? That just shows how ignorant you are. So in your mind people peacefully and respectfully protesting massive government spending is 'hateful' and 'crazy', but hippies throwing bricks through Starbucks' windows over the WTO - that's rational. Throwing pink paint on Condoleeza Rice? Perfectly sane.
Depends on who you call the tea party people. If it was those of us that were throwing them since 2007, then you've got it wrong. If you mean those who decided to jump on the bandwagon but were Bush guys, then, ya, those guys are lame.
Really? Then what does that make the people who protested under Bush, but refuse to protest the many-fold spending of Obama (or the many other Bush-era policies he has kept which, when Bush was president, were TERRORISM!!!!).
But of course there's no reason that someone would protest spending now (largest deficit and most spending by a president in HISTORY, on NOTHING except crony kickbacks and pork projects) versus then (large spending on two wars approved by Congress and enthusiastically backed by the American people at the time of their undertaking). Nah, no difference.
Give me a break. Left-wingers are not rational. Then eventually you grow up and become Conservative. Or you go on welfare and complain for the rest of your life.
It amazes me how ignorant lefties are, and how they have to constantly be fed information.
Did you now know that Cooper pretty much invented the 'teabagger' insult, while cackling away with a guest about how stupid the people out protesting the government were?
Did you not see Cooper's week-long, shameless puff piece visiting 'slave camps' in Africa with Obama?
But you're right - a more condemning name would have been Rachel Maddow. But there are so many crazy left-wing commentators it's hard to remember them all ... but yeah, it's "the right" that has all the problems. Sure.
The hundreds of thousands of people who showed up across the nation to peacefully (if sometimes loudly) state their opposition to this left-wing government obviously terrify you. This is why you have to marginalize them. It's why left-wingers always try to marginalize Conservatives, which is why it's so hilarious that you always fail. It's a center-right country, no matter how much you try to drag us left.
Coming to a gaming blog and saying that Andersoon Cooper was the the first to connect the dots on "tea-baggers"? You've offiically convinced me that you're trolling.
Either way, it doesn't surprise me that CNN to make fun of a movement completely funded and organized by their competitor Fox News.
The problem you're not understanding is the media does that because none of you even try to dis-associate yourselves from those crazy people. Whether or not you follow Limbaugh and all those other racist hatemongers I listed, the point is you don't shun them or try to kick them away..but rather let them be the vocal leaders of your party.
Which is why it seems like everyone hates republicans nowadays. You can't let crazy, hateful people lead your party and expect to not be made fun of.
Cooper was the first to make the slur on the air, and he widely popularized it. He's also (like Chris Matthews) very open about his political bias, so stop playing deaf.
And the only reason people think Limbaugh & Beck are 'racist' and 'bigoted' is that people like you keep repeating the lie, even stooping to repeating faked quotes (as did MSNBC, CNN, and many other 'news' sources) to back up this position. Neitehr are 'racist' or 'bigoted', and neither are any worse in how they approach their job than any left-wing talking head.
The difference is that Limbaugh and Beck are EFFECTIVE, which is why your type want them destroyed.
And that's hilarious - 'funded by Fox News'. None of us got our checks. Meanwhile, all the big protests against Bush were funded by Media Matters, MoveOn, and so forth. The SEIU and Democrat Underground provided matching shirts and signs and bussed people in to protest FOR ObamaCare. Nothing to see there, right?
But analyze what you just said: you think it's fine for CNN to attack Fox News. That's not biased. Noo.
But you're not funny! No way.
