New Gay Tony in-game anime is all too familiar

That's surprisingly 'high-quality' for what some would see as a throw-away feature.
And, um... boobies?

The video made me chuckle, but for a different reason. "Behind every joke theres a little bit of truth".

Umm... subtle...

Yeah, while it's as clever as games get, GTA has never been a game of subtlety. The satire is very welcome, but it's not exactly sharp. But hey, it's the best we've got, so I'll take it.

I thought about asking that, but design-wise it would probably mean massive code reconstruction. Embedded videos are usually drawing from another source/server and really have very little interaction with Joystiq's account information.
But now that I think about it... shouldn't be too hard to make a category for mature videos vs unregistered users (drop down still?) vs underage users where posts from that category wouldn't be displayed.
Of course Weblogs Inc could have designed their blog infrastructure to make it impossible, but probably not =|

Oh such wit! I think this rivals Epic Movie and Disaster Movie!

In that it's a funny little trailer? Yeah. Watching the whole movie is another matter altogether.
This is good in that there isnt 90 minutes of wasted life behind this.

If you meant stupid, absurd, or ridiculous then yes, I think that's what they were going for

So Rockstar DIDN'T lose their sense of humor. WTF was up when they were making GTA4 then?

I like to watch anime (not as much now, a little more particular in taste) and listening to Rightwing talk radio but I still found GTA IV's parodies awesome. They were smartly done and I took no offense at them. In fact I enjoyed them more than the actual missions themselves. Listen folks, there's no point in getting bent out of shape over everything, like Prezbo and his Libs. Did I say that out loud? Yes I did.

I'm not a particularly big fan of Rockstar's sense of "humor", but this was amusing. (Coming from a longtime anime fan.) And before anime weeaboos start crying out that Rockstar hates anime, you might want to check out a little game called Oni that they worked on together with another developer called Bungie (heard of them?) some years ago. It's basically a love letter to Ghost in the Shell and other classic sci-fi anime, and they even got one of the best anime voice actors in the business (Amanda Winn-Lee) to voice the protagonist. So clearly at least some of them are fans.
Still, this particular parody seems awfully similar to a similar "show-within-a-game" joke done by Suda51 in "No More Heroes", right down to the art design and the name. (Suda's version was called something like "Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly".) Though I have to say, Suda's humor was more subtle.

Yeah, I remember that Rockstar Game and Bungie (before MS bought them out, and I think this is the reason why they wanted to do Halo Legends anime) did Oni. That game looks kinda cool. I would love GTA 5 to take place in Japan and decide to use anime-style animation. Well, some cutscene in GTA 5 should use anime in it.

A perfect parody of anime from the 1970's to the 1990's that were dubbed in English.

High production values aside, this is everything that is wrong with GTA "satire." Satire is the art of exaggeration to make a point - but GTA inevitably exaggerates so far that their "point" is stating the obvious (i.e. "bad anime is dumb!"), not to mention unoriginal (all their "satire" is just regurgitation of so many lazy internet posts).

One thought about the odd political bent this took:
It is interesting to note that historically, Liberals and
Ultra-Liberals have a disconcerting tendency to suppress speech the
dissents...and usually, oddly enough, claiming a moral high ground
that justifies the suppression of opposing ideas and quashing of
other freedoms based on some sort of intellectual superiority...when
in fact it could be said that it is intellectually corrupt to do so.
Just something to think about, considering the way this comment
thread has run...

Wow, this is so messed up. But I like it. For some weird reason. Then again, I also think it's just plain disturbing. Well, that's Grand Theft Auto for you. When you could make bloody skid marks in GTA III, no one ever guessed it'd come to this. But that's what everyone's into these days, I guess.
