Funny, some people around here were saying that PES 2010 would bomb in sales just because in their opinion FIFA is better than this one. Regardless, people have to get the idea that in europe, PES is big, I mean, its pratically the only game that non-gamers who like football buy or at least download illegally for the pc.

This said, I gotta admit PES commercials are all over the place in my country. Even the main sports channel around here (which normally has videogames commercial) only has PES publicity and no FIFA around here to see.

The only reason its No.1 - is that the numpties buy it.

PES is like playing in thick mud.

eNrique Madden????????

Mate, to most Europeans you would have to explain what Madden is before they can tell you they didn't buy it because it isn't about SOCCER.

In fact, to most Europeans you would have to explain the difficult concept that there are other sports besides SOCCER. A fact that may cause their heads to explode so be careful! Many Europeans truthfully have no idea that any other football sports exist.

A game about Gridiron in the UK! Most ignore their own sports in their one eyed obsession with the worlds dullest form of football, SOCCER.

And you asked about.................what was it again?????

Pretty bubbles in the air.
They fly so high,
Nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams,
They fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.

And the trolls/fanboys be all like;

"EA keep milking FIFA Hero. PES Band has a better tracklist and better gameplay."

"FIFA Hero: Van Der Sar was terrible, no wonder they gave it away free with FIFA Hero 5."

"I can't wait to export stuff from Lego PES Band."

"Kids should go out and learn a real sport."

"If EA keep pumping out football games so often, they'll kill the genre!"

errr Europe is not a nation.... and Africa also isn't a country like most people believe.

I'm surprised PES sold this much. i already have FIFA and looking forward to the release of PES in Canada, why games have to be released at different dates still confuses me.
By the time we in North America get to go online to play... the Europeans would have played to their hearts content hence being way better and harder to beat online if you get matched up with them.. thats been my experience in FIFA so far. I doubt PES would be different.

i thought about that online advantage but because you play people based on level, its actually better to start late. Starting late means that the better players have already leveled up so you just get to play the scrubs that are either starting late or are just plain bad....It helped a lot when i was on my way to my nice fifa record :)

Uh, Europe? A nation? I must've missed the memo.

"For instance, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 debuted in the top sales spot for UK..."

Oh, so we're talking about the UK here? I was unaware the UK was representative of the European continent as a whole. Sloppy writing, Joystiq.

When I see Elijah Wood, I can't help but see Spyro, the purple dragon. So the idea of Elijah Wood playing a hooligan sounds doubly ridiculous to me.

Not to suggest that violence is in any way correlated to manliness, but we've reached a nadir in manliness, it seems.

I was a big PES fan, but since it went "HD", konami really fucked up what was near to perfection by last gen standards. Nowadays I’m a FIFA player, and those o really like football should be playing this excellent game too. Graphically is shit, but gameplay, animations and physics are astonishingly fantastic, it's everything you expect from a simulation.

PES10 sales success is kinda absurd because this game fails in so many departments, in my perspective the only reason for this game unexpected success is because the ones that bought FIFA day one are buying PES as well.

Bought FIFA, downloading PES...

I reckon it's more to do with the fact that people have become so attached to PES over the good years that they will buy the crap Konami keeps churning out these days out of their blind love for the name.

Like you I used to share that attachment for PES, but then FIFA 09 came out. At first it felt a bit dirty to be playing "the enemy" but PES is now so shit I would not play it if someone paid me.

I doubt anyone who bought FIFA would want to actually buy PES too.

I know I haven't bought it, and in response to Griffin, yeah when will you yanks actually stop promoting a sport that's for girls. I'd love to see your yankee football players go against the New Zealand rugby players, it would be like watching waves crash against a cliff lol

(btw) I'm not being spiteful, or trying to be a troll, I just find it funny how every continent except Europe find the love of footall/soccer so confusing (particularly North America).

@ramin

I'm speaking as an american that lived in NZ for a while...

The all blacks are great rugby team. they're very athletic. The haka is sick in person. but in rugby they tackle to tackle and stop the run nothing more.

in the NFL they are on steroids and huge. But when they tackle, they tackle to end careers.

you just don't see the same hits in rugby. sure they wear pads on their shoulders but it's really not that much. it's mostly to prevent dislocated shoulders and spine injuries.

infact, I think the eagles used to have an aussie on their team that used to play aussie rules football. But on the eagles he was the kicker...the smallest guy on the team.

@Ramin123: Not just Europe. Football is one of the dominant sports in every continent apart from Northern Europe. Actually, even that ignores Mexico.

I don't have a problem with the main US and Canadian sports - I have watched far too many US sports movies for that - but it always surprises me when they talk about it like some minority sport when the last world cup had a global audience of over 30 billion people according to the FIFA website.

Space is spot on about the size of NFL players vs rugby players (Both League and Union)

NFL players are HUGE. A quarter back is the size of Most Rugby forwards, around 105kg to 115kg (230lbs - 250lbs). He can be like that because NFL is almost a completely anaerobic sport. Short burst of intense power. Absolutely no staying power.

If NFL players didn't wear armour, it's armour guys not padding, there would be deaths on the field. It's not about toughness. It's smart for crying out load.

In short an NFL player would last 5 minutes in Rugby because he wouldn't be able to breathe and he may have a heart attack (they have to play for up to 80min with one 10min break). A rugby player might last in NFL if he wasn't broken in his first tackle.

Actually here's a list off the top of my head of countries for whom SOCCER is an afterthought.

Australia India (Over 1 Billion people only care about CRICKET)
Canada Pakistan
United States Sir Lanka
New Zealand Just about every south pacific nation

South Africa. Rugby and Cricket are still massively popular, although the all pervading parasite that is world SOCCER is making devastating inroads and soon the country may be lost to the disease.
