Rumor: Animator resume lists work on 'GoldenEye 2010'
60
Shortly before being pulled from the internet's intimidating view, an animator's online resume may have let out a secret -- concerning an iconic secret agent. According to the eagle-eyed Superannuation, Craig Peck listed work on a game dubbed "GoldenEye 2010 (Wii)," created in association with British developer Eurocom.
Eurocom previously worked on the PlayStation 2 version of Activision's Quantum of Solace tie-in. Assuming "GoldenEye 2010" isn't merely a nostalgic codename, it seems the publisher could be looking to a well-regarded classic for inspiration on a new James Bond game. Alas, Hollywood can't keep up with Activision's annual aspirations.
The publisher won't divulge any of its plans this early, leaving us to wait for further information or for our time-traveling correspondent to confirm the game's existence. He's really more of a GoldenEye 2020 fan -- looking back, that really was the best of the remakes.

Yeah, you are thinking of Rogue Agent. But that was a long time ago. I remember debating whether to buy it in the first months of DS ownership, when there was a good drought between launch (and SM64DS), and the next game that caught my eye (Canvas Curse)

LETS NOT FORGET about the Goldeneye HD version that was made, but wasn't allowed to be released due to IP and Nintendo's stake in the name.
There's an XBLA Version of the original Goldeneye ready to be released this instant, if Nintendo would allow it.

Actually NOBODY knows what they're talking about.
None of the involved parties — Rare, Microsoft, Nintendo or Activision — have said anything in regards to why the game was never released.
There was a rumor once supposedly from someone who worked at Rare that it was Nintendo holding it back. But it was nothing more than that...a rumor.
Said rumor, if memory serves, also originated on freaking GAMEFAQS.
There was also a rumor that it was Activision who was withholding it...but I never see the Xbox fanboys recite that bit of speculation as if it's fact.
The truth of the matter is that ANYONE who says they know why Goldeneye isn't available is, at best, full of complete shit.

The rumor, which only exists because some people still have the idea that Nintendo has no rights to the game, stated that Nintendo basically threw a hissy fit to Activision, threatening to cut off Activision's licensing rights on Wii/DS (which is worth a lot more to Activision than some XBLA title), out of jealousy, and so Activision intervened and denied the license. A neat way to paint Nintendo in the worst light possible in that case (as an impotent, petty party, relying only on Activision's clout to save them)
A rather foolish argument. Nintendo would threaten to sue directly in any event, but my guess is that Microsoft's or Rare's own lawyers pointed out the obvious implications, and put a stop to it.

agreed.. everything ive heard has been rumors and not confirmation.
i do believe that activision is probably a big problem, but im not saying thats fact.. and i dont the rumor mr khan supplied because why would nintendo do that? thats absolutely stupid because theyd make money off of the xbla release, just like they make licensing money off of the guitar hero games released every few months or so. guitar hero III sold best on the wii didnt it? why would nintendo do something so stupid, and lets not forget about call of duty.
i think maybe microsoft or nintendo or activision may have been too greedy in how much of the cut they should get.. so they couldnt come to an agreement. i think itd be fair if activision got a small cut for licensing fees, and nintendo could make a port with added wii controls to come to virtual console/wiiware, and msft have a version that could be played over xbox live.. both versions would have crisper graphics like the perfect dark update. msft makes money from their version and nintendo from theirs.
but yeah, im thinking more rationally than the big wigs most likely.

First I would love to play the goldeneye remake on XBLA, but even if this rumor (blown out of proportion as it is) is true, and Nintendo was ultimately at fault,
so the fuck what.
Nintendo doesn't have to do shit for us xboxers. Why should they put one of their greatest games (consistently on "best ever" top ten lists) on another living, thriving, and needless to say competing console? Name a time in history when this has happened. Should Halo1 be on the wii2? Why does nintendo have to do it?

I for one feel the Wii is the perfect platform for an N64 game.

If true, it's next to impossible that Wii is the only platform it's on, unless they're doing a proper revamp of the original Goldeneye (which we remember that Nintendo still has certain rights to). Most likely it's just another mediocre game that will feature on all platforms, though.

Yeah 64 days with the blockiness. but game engine wise i still love it. i love shooting their hand and watching them shake it in pain. then go for the head shot.
keep the game throw in dual analog drop the game's super auto aim and update the graphics and it will still play extremely well.

Eurocom. EUROCOM! Not Rare!
This is 'GoldenEye 2010' Not a port of 'GoldenEye'. The Bond license is currently held by Activision.
Rare is a near-dead developer on life support.

And someone picked Odd Job and you could never shoot him while he slid around hacking your knees out.
I always laughed at whoever thought it was cool to play as Jaws. Biggest target ever.
Man, I've had so many good times with this game. Friends that weren't into gaming would come over and play this for hours.

I remember playing Goldeneye on a 13" w/ splitscreen. Yeah my cousin owned my ass w/ that game. That was only because I was not accustomed to the N64 controller or the system for that matter, because I didn't own a N64 system until about 7 years ago when I picked one up @ an EB Games for $10. I think I got the system, Goldeneye, & Star Wars Shadows of The Empire for like $15.

Well, whether there's going to be a new Goldeneye remake or not, we'll always have the multiplayer remake Goldeneye: Source for HL2.

Eurocom, what have you done? You brought me that spectacular port of Hydro Thunder...and now you rape my childhood like this?
Please, let the classics die in peace.
Also, I actually liked Quantum of Solace. It was much better than Rogue Agent or Everything or Nothing.

Hmm if this is true, why haven't they shut down Goldeneye Source yet? That is SOP for when you're making an official remake, to shut down all the unofficial ones...

As much as I'd like to believe it, I think Goldeneye should stay where it belongs...on the N64. And it should stay how I remember it: full of hours and hours of endless fun, and not ruined by some remake like so many games before it.
That's not to say there is a small piece of me who is still hoping for a comeback.....
