Crave bringing Man vs. Wild, new Deadliest Catch to consoles
It's not quite as titularly perplexing as the continuation of the Final Fantasy series, but we do have to wonder about Crave's decision to bring another game based on crab fishing show Deadliest Catch to market. If we've already reeled in the catch that's most deadly, what's the allure of returning to the water? Our hope is that an undiscovered species of crab with the faces of adorable babies will be at the center of An Equally Deadly But More Morally Taxing Catch in the spring of 2010 on Wii, PS3 and DS.
What makes much more sense is Crave's announcement that it will also be releasing a game based on the awesome Man vs. Wild to the 360, PS3, DS and Wii in the same time frame. A game based on a survivalist's battles with nature could make a really fresh take on the action adventure genre, but this is Crave we're talking about, so count on a series of minigames in which host Bear Grylls eats increasingly obscure and difficult to chew organs from a deer carcass.

man vs wild could turn out to be a pretty sweet strategy, survival, action game. its a decent show
CtrlBurn @ Oct 27th 2009 9:04PM
Bear Grylls is a self-important choad. Les Stroud is a real man.
maveric101 @ Oct 27th 2009 10:27PM
agree with ctrlburn.
survivor man > man vs wild
Brad @ Oct 27th 2009 10:45PM
I agree that surviorman is more real, but that's not why I'm watching frakking tv! I'm able to take certain liberties to be entertained, and watching a slightly fake show that is far more interesting is one of them.
Hardcore @ Oct 27th 2009 11:44PM
I used to like Les Stroud, but then I realized he was a huge pussy. He couldn't survive to save his life - he is always starving throughout the whole week because he can't catch anything to eat - I've never once even seen him catch a fish. There is absolutely no point for him not to have a camera crew except that it makes him appear like a "real" survivalist. If I was stranded somewhere with him, I'd take my chances on my own.

@Hardcore
He probably does that cuz he wants to survive, and knows he's not in a serious situation enough to make risky decisions.
Yes, he sucks at that stuff in a good number of ways, but most times he just knows what he's been told, but no previous experience in it at all (example: Whenever he uses any of the new tools. :P)... unlike Bear, who's taught beforehand.
So yeah, he may be a "pussy", but at least he gets to live, get paid, and see his family the next day. He still gives off good information... unlike Bear... who shows you what you could do, but does it because there's a crew waiting to save his life if it kills him.

Actually i've only seen episodes where he has survived. If he couldn't survive to save his life then wouldn't he be dead after the first episode?
brian Mita @ Oct 29th 2009 9:28PM
@hardcore: season 3 episode 3 of Survivorman, Les Stroud catches 4 big fish. Arctic Char.

*Sigh* More shovelware. Hooray...
Monica Dickey @ Oct 27th 2009 11:29PM
Yeah I was really hoping this would be about some sort of free video downloads, not game ideas.
But hey as long as my boy Bear is making that money I guess haha
james @ Oct 27th 2009 8:07PM
of course they do
james @ Oct 27th 2009 8:08PM
fuck i meant they are
Chris @ Oct 27th 2009 8:11PM
man vs wild is a fake show, look it up on you tube
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 27th 2009 8:18PM
no, no i've definitely watched it on TV, it really is a show.
NitroMikeo @ Oct 27th 2009 8:20PM
Some of the stuff he does is over exaggerated. But theres no denying hes a hard man lol. He also trained with the SAS so hes no an idiot either :D He just prefers Hotels to inside of camels.
Ben @ Oct 27th 2009 8:29PM
We never landed on the moon, look it up on youtube.
Really? So what if some of the stuff he does/finds is planned or pointed out to him by his team. The stuff that you see him doing, he really does. If the point of the show is entertainment, then it does a good job, it's fairly entertaining. If the point of the show is survival education, again, it does a pretty good job.
LaughingTarget @ Oct 27th 2009 8:48PM
I think he's pointing out the fact that the first season or two Bear Grylls pretended to be sent out in the wilderness with nothing but a camera and actually survived out there. He also talked about being SAS, even though he never actually went through much of their training regimen and was one of the support personnel. He greatly exaggerated who he was and what he was doing.
I agree the show is interesting, but after that fallout, I just sopped watching it. Knowing the guy effectively lied about who he was and what he was doing made me just not want to watch it anymore.
That said, a mini-game will be to keep the highway from being seen in shots to maintain realism.
CtrlBurn @ Oct 27th 2009 9:39PM
Everything you see Bear Grylls do, some other guy has to do while carrying a video camera. I much prefer Survivorman. Les Stroud IS the cameraman. Also, he doesn't spend the whole show running his mouth about how brave he is for all the dangerous stuff he's doing.
Bear Grylls is as legit as Austin Stevens and Criss Angel.
Weezer @ Oct 27th 2009 10:18PM
Go kill a wild reindeer with nothing but a knife eat its heart then tell me it's fake.
iluvmyzune @ Oct 27th 2009 8:16PM
fail.
Ficken @ Oct 27th 2009 8:18PM
Confirmed quick time event to get water out of elephant dung?
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 27th 2009 8:19PM
Man, that's disappointing that Crave is making it. A game about wilderness survival could really be fascinating and something no one's done before. Before I heard many details about I Am Alive i hoped it would be like Man vs Wild
The Pirate @ Oct 28th 2009 8:19AM
Lost in Blue for the DS and Survival Kids for the GBC would like a word with you
Curaga @ Oct 27th 2009 8:21PM
Survivorman is better, but that aside this game.....might be interesting if they do it right...I guess...
Ben @ Oct 27th 2009 8:31PM
If by better you mean, boring, then yeah, survivorman is boring... err, better.
bigred @ Oct 27th 2009 8:50PM
Survivorman is infinitely better than that fraud Bear...
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Oct 27th 2009 8:53PM
survivor man is more educational and real and more boring.
man vs. wild is less educational, but more entertaining.
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Oct 27th 2009 8:55PM
survivor man is more educational and real and more boring.
man vs. wild is less educational, but more entertaining.
Curaga @ Oct 27th 2009 9:03PM
I guess you could say Man vs. Wild is more entertaining, he has a lot more shock and awe type stuff, lots of yelling and eating gross things for nearly no reason. For me it all comes down to the people themselves, I sort of respect Less Stroud as a person...a t.v. person at least, he seems real. I really don't respect Bear Grylls, hes just an actor playing a role and trying to make it seem real, I don't like that in a survival show.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 27th 2009 9:08PM
no way man, Man vs Wild is way more educational. Les Stroud might be a tougher guy, but he just goes on surviving, for 7 days always, and teaching you about what he encounters. Bear will survive only as long as he has to, but go out of his way to teach you stuff. Like all those times when he gets naked and jumps into a frozen lake or peat bog to show you what to do if you get caught in one. Les would just say "yeah that's a peat bog, stay away"
SoshiKitai @ Oct 28th 2009 2:37AM
Apparently Batman would really like to know what happens if he's caught in a peat bog.
He doesn't like people telling him to avoid things.
CH3BURASHKA @ Oct 27th 2009 8:22PM
Oregon Trail 4: Man Vs Wild.
Bring it the fuck on.

In case anyone still thought this show was real.
Hyams @ Oct 27th 2009 8:48PM
Well, yeah ... so? It was always kind of obvious that parts of it are staged and exaggerated. Another (obvious) example: the escaping from an island episode, where he acts like he's all alone, but really we know there's at least one cameraman with him.
It's meant to be entertaining and educational, not real.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Oct 27th 2009 8:23PM
Bear Grylls rocks. His show is awesome.
bumblo @ Oct 27th 2009 8:30PM
Funny name though Bear Grylls. Keep repeating it like 20 times, it gets weirder.
Alex @ Oct 27th 2009 8:26PM
Bear Grylls is a phony, baloney, five-star hotel-staying wuss. If you want real survival television Les Stroud's own Survivorman is the best and only game in town. Bear Grylls is like the WWE, Les Stroud is like olympiad wrestling.
MechaGamerX @ Oct 27th 2009 8:28PM
+1 for Survivorman.
HighFiveJesus @ Oct 27th 2009 8:29PM
thank you.
survivor man uses one man, not one man and his trusty camera crew.
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Oct 27th 2009 9:00PM
but man vs. wild is more entertaining.
sourvideogame @ Oct 27th 2009 8:28PM
man vs wild sucks!!! its fake..
they should make a Survivorman game. that'll rock!!
MechaGamerX @ Oct 27th 2009 8:38PM
Les Stroud Vs. Bear Grylls.
Taking all bets.
KaBob799 @ Oct 27th 2009 9:23PM
The game is gonna be fake no matter what.
m3nphls @ Oct 27th 2009 8:35PM
Seeing as how this is going......we'll soon see "So You Think You Can Dance" game lol
HighFiveJesus @ Oct 27th 2009 10:31PM
There's two being developed already. Both for the Wii.
ximena79 @ Oct 27th 2009 8:38PM
WTF!!! r u talking about
TheMCFaceman @ Oct 27th 2009 8:56PM
man vs. wild is awesome. too bad Crave will butcher what could've been a very fun, and potentially educational, game..
Shiaoran @ Oct 27th 2009 11:18PM
I'd rather have a Survivorman game...
So, to save the game in Man vs. Wild will we need to go back to the hotel or to the crew camp, while pretending we're alone?
