Critter Crunch dev working on new zombie game

As for platforms, Vella continued, "We're developing the prototype on consoles, but it's so early on, it's impossible to tell if it will even make it to a platform. As a studio, we're huge fans of PSN, XBLA, iPhone, DS... so really we feel like our concepts could end up one of many places. Ideally though, we'd like to see it as a downloadable game, but it's important to reiterate that, as it stands right now, the game is ridiculously early in the prototyping phase, so Capy isn't sure where, when or even if this will have a platform."
Asked whether the company will still develop for PSN following Critter Crunch's launch, Vella told us Capy still has more in the pipe for PSN. The company would also like to bring Critter Crunch to other platforms, mentioning PC and noting that fans have asked for a PSP Minis version. Anything that stops Biggs from crying is good in our book.
Update: Capy sent over some "very early art" of the game.

There are already too many Zombie games, but if Capy's doing it, it may be the definitive version!
DeepFriedSushi @ Oct 29th 2009 9:20AM
the zombie is going the way of SAW, over saturation to the point that it becomes instantly dismissed.
Damian @ Oct 27th 2009 2:08PM
Enough with the zombie games.
I love zombies as much as any other person, but it is getting a bit much.

I though I was the only one.

dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Oct 27th 2009 2:22PM
We need more zombie ninja robot pirate dinosaur games... with or without skateboards.
captainprotonx @ Oct 27th 2009 2:39PM
How can one love zombies? They are always killing anything that moves (except fish, birds, elephants, and kangaroos).
Kyle @ Oct 27th 2009 5:16PM
At least it's not another FPS
David Black @ Oct 27th 2009 2:09PM
I'd love it if they brought Critter Crunch to the PSP. I'm interested in this Zombie Tactics idea as well. I hope it comes to fruition.
McBrick @ Oct 27th 2009 2:10PM
Zombie Tactics:
Assemble en masse.
Move slowly towards target.
Survivors eat brains.
A game about ANTI-zombie tactics would be much, much better.
Solace @ Oct 27th 2009 2:11PM
i love Critter Crunch and the people at Capybara Games are really friendly to everyone on their site so another awesome game to look forward to
Dreaded Fear @ Oct 27th 2009 2:11PM
Zombie games are the new World War 2 in video games.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Oct 27th 2009 2:24PM
I see where you're coming from, but at least you can go in a few directions with the zombie concept. There's only so much you can do with a real-world war.
Dreaded Fear @ Oct 27th 2009 4:06PM
Yeah, I love Zombies much more than WW2 video games, but you have to admit it seems like everyone is trying to cash in right now. You do have a point. Most zombie games are vastly different, and have different variations of them as well (fast, slow, specials, etc...) which is better than WW2 where you have small towns, beaches, etc... A zombie game however, can be placed in any time period, and locale. For example, Nazi zombies in World War 2.
David Black @ Oct 27th 2009 2:11PM
You sir, are cleary a robot who is simply jealous of all the attention zombies are currently getting. You had your time so why don't you shut the 01010 up and let zombies have their fun too.
I'm sure robots will be cool again sometime before Skynet destroys us all.
David Black @ Oct 27th 2009 2:13PM
That was aimed @Damian.
For the love of all that is good and holy, will someone please fix this damn comment system!

too many Zombie games....but on the PS Nation Podcast they said they had a Zombie in Critter Crunch but took it out cause it broke the game....so I can see why they would want to make a Zombie game
Solace @ Oct 27th 2009 3:52PM
yup really good interview done by PS Nation by the way here's what he was talking about http://www.boingboing.net/2009/10/21/like-ghibli-barfing.html

Zombies are pale justification for brain dead AI.
In 90's they promised believable AI behavior, now teammates' role is put to co-op and enemies are getting stupider. Alan Turing is turning in his grave.
And lot of players' taste never grow out of Space Invader.
Discotheque @ Oct 27th 2009 5:23PM
FEAR 1 had some brilliant AI....and then they dumbed it down for FEAR 2 for some reason.
Also STALKER's AI will blow your mind
captainprotonx @ Oct 27th 2009 2:37PM
Fuck sake, ENOUGH WITH THE ZOMBIES.
Let's start a pool to see which dev outputs a Zombie Kart game.
$1 on Konami. The game will start three zombies from each of the NES Castlevania games.
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 27th 2009 3:23PM
Burn Zombie Burn is one of the best downloadable PSN games hands down. So long as the game itself is really good I don't have a problem with Zombies. But, that Zombie Apocolypse or whatever it was Konami released about a month ago is just plain terrible and is a broken mess. On the other hand Dead Nation is looking pretty awesome ... it's about execution for me. I'd kill for a PSN version of Plants vs Zombies.
As far as critter crunch goes- it's got some of the most beautiful animation and character designs I've ever seen. It's also a really unique take on the puzzle genre in general. It's also pretty damn addictive. I think I even like it better than Luminies Supernova and thats saying something. Great game and until they make a bad game I'll support whatever game they put out. The biggs in critter crunch remind me of Totoro and the map reminds of of Pixel Junk Monsters. I like when you are on the world map and if you try to advance to an area you haven't unlocked how the bigg shakes his little head no ... it's just so damn cute yet also really funny. The phrases after you lose on a specific puzzle are the best. Great game.
Solace @ Oct 27th 2009 4:03PM
DeadNation just looks epic, and yes Critter Crunch FTW!
Ebylon @ Oct 27th 2009 5:03PM
They only take Splotki's pants.
Phil @ Oct 27th 2009 9:06PM
I do love me some Critter Crunch.
If they give this game the same type of high def animation then it'll at least be pretty.
Jacksons @ Oct 27th 2009 9:26PM
That company's awesome.
tkAshur @ Oct 28th 2009 6:48PM
Definetly don't mind zombies, still love the darn things. Vampires however...I'm tired of, especially since now they sparkle.
I LOOOOOOVED Critter Crunch, it was beautiful, it didn't suffer from classic 2d video game animation in that frames are skipped to make gameplay work, it worked like watching a show. I can't remember a puzzle game where it was fun to watch every single creature on the screen.
If Capa does this zombie game in the same style, I will love them even more. Worked in Plants vs Zombies, why not here?
