We weren't surprised when the first of three episodes in the Assassin's Creed: Lineage miniseries, created by Hybride Studios, exceeded our expectations. These folks did the effects for 300 and Sin City -- so of course we knew it would look great. Our surprise simply came from the fact that Lineage is a promotional, game-based short film; and nearly all of the words in that phrase seem contrary to high quality. Share in our surprise by watching the first Lineage installment after the jump.
If you'd like a bit of behind-the-scenes info into how the film was created, check out this GamesIndustry.biz interview with Ubisoft UK marketing director Murray Pannel. He does a good job of clearly explaining the game and movie industry synergy -- you know, what James Cameron alluded to during his fateful, four-week-long E3 2009 speech.

Wow, a surprising amount of talented work went into that. Not bad, if a little light on character and story clarity. I'll be curious to see where it goes. I hope there's more to it than very pretty swordfights (and I'm a guy who loves swordplay). If it was made to make me more curious about the game itself, then mission somewhat accomplished!

I'm sorry, most of these shots look pretty butchered. Expected much more out of Hybride

That was not good quality at all, stupid hype.
Superhero-esque buttoning up? Say Cheese. Secret hole in the fireplace that rumbles the whole room and is "concealed" by a huge panel in the mantelpiece that anyone could lean on? Oops. Ahh, but at least the acting was ... oh.

Well some of you dis this like saying what the one above me said about bad acting and the such but the funniest part to ponder over is the fact that alot of this had better look and feel than MOST (semi)big budget video game made movie....Bloodraine...House of the Dead...Dungeon Siege...plus something else that it has over these movies....is the lack of the name Uwe Boll....or would that have been better for you guys??? I mean come on, for a PROMO this was an amazing first episode highly anticipating the next 2 and it airing on TV the 11th!!!!!!

Isn't the ring finger supposed to be cut off for the use of the hidden blade?

No, play the game. It's explained in the first hour.
