First Brutal Legend DLC dated Nov. 3, initially free on PS3
EA announced today that the "first DLC" (that means there'll be more, right?) for recently released Brütal Legend will be arriving November 3 and November 5 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, respectively. Named "Tears of the Hextadon," the two, totally not RTS maps ("Circle of Tears" and "Death's Fjord") will set you back 400
($5) on Xbox 360. If you're a PS3 owner, however, the map pack will be free of charge for the first two weeks. "We love the PS3," EA's Brent Dady said over on PlayStation Blog, speaking on the publisher's decision to offer the DLC for free on PSN until November 19.
Those who get the DLC on either console will also get a free in-game axe -- the intimidating "Blade of Ormagöden." We suggest you start looking for the game's creative lead Tim Schafer, who claims in the release that he plays online "every night." Get him Joystiq Biomass! Get him.

I doubt it's that they like the PS3 more, its that Microsoft doesn't like DLC to be free. They've show that on multiple occasions.

$50 a year, overpriced G.O.D titles, Avatar clothing, themes and proprietary HDDs don't bring in enough profit I guess.
Solace @ Oct 27th 2009 11:50AM
EA actually sells more games on the PS3 then 360 if you didnt know that
Rirath @ Oct 27th 2009 11:54AM
I'm still fairly annoyed with MS about the L4D map being sold on Live but free on PC, AND for the Castle Crashers pack Behemoth wanted to release for free but couldn't. This is just yet another example.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 27th 2009 11:55AM
Except for Madden, that could be true. I would imagine Brutal Legend probably sold more for the PS3, but if I were on an EA marketing board, I'd be offering free DLC for the 360 in an attempt to boost sales.
Vidikron @ Oct 27th 2009 11:57AM
Actually, according the sales charts that were posted a week or so ago, Brutal Legend sold more on the 360... but that's likely because it was up against Uncharted 2 on the PS3.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 12:01PM
Or it's because 99.9999% of multiplatform games sell better on 360. Only one I can remember hearing that didn't was Batman.
Vidikron @ Oct 27th 2009 12:05PM
Nah.. there's more than that. I think SFIV sold better worldwide on the PS3 for example.
The_Punisher @ Oct 27th 2009 12:06PM
@tmac
OR it's because the 360 has no better games to buy, and PS3 has Uncharted 2 AND Demon's Souls.
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 27th 2009 12:12PM
I *think* Devil May Cry was another one that sold better on the PS3. There are actually more than you think that sell better on the PS3.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 27th 2009 12:13PM
And there is NO WAY FFXIII will sell better on the 360. It's not possible.
Solace @ Oct 27th 2009 12:14PM
I'm just saying EA's been good to the PS3 and has made more money on the platform then 360 recently as pointed out here. http://www.mcvuk.com/news/35278/PS3-outperforms-Xbox-360-for-EA

@ The punisher
Don't be that guy. Demon's Souls has been somewhat of a letdown for me so far cause it's been kinda easy. I mean, I'm enjoying it overall, but I went in expecting crushing difficulty and I really haven't found it yet through 1-1, 1-2 and 2-1. Haven't even died yet on any of the first three bosses (4 if you count the optional dragon in 1-2). I'm hoping it gets a lot tougher.
Doreo (Psn-doreo503) @ Oct 27th 2009 12:44PM
Tmac, are you looking at strategy guides and faqs or no?
nerfgun @ Oct 27th 2009 12:47PM
@ tmacairjordan87
My turn to say to you: don't be that guy. No one beats 3 Demon's Souls bosses without dying. No one.
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 27th 2009 1:03PM
Yeah thats basically total BS ... I don't care how good you are but no one is that good to beat three Demons Sould bosses and stages without dying on their first playthrough unless they are looking at some kind of a strategy guide. Trying to sound more hardcore or something by saying one of the most punishing games this year is a letdown because "it's kind of easy" is complete BS. Thats about as believable as saying you were trolling because of a psychology paper. No offense.
Think about what the punisher is saying for a minute. Brutal Legend released the same time as Uncharted 2. Do you think people who own a PS3 are going to be more likely to buy Brutal Legend than they are Uncharted 2? When you think of it that way it kind of makes sense in this instance. You just have to get past the fanboy bit and what have you.
Space @ Oct 27th 2009 1:23PM
I still think it's bizarre that people buy the majority of multiplat games on the 360. 360 is great and all if I had the time I would buy another but....wouldn't you rather play them on a system that isn't going to break?
Marty @ Oct 27th 2009 1:26PM
One platform has a slightly different demographic than the other, resulting in some games doing better on one system over the other?
Holy shit, this is huge news! Stop the presses!
Dreaded Fear @ Oct 27th 2009 2:15PM
I don't see how anyone can defend Microsoft on this one. They clearly could have made this free as well, but time and time again, they have shown they are unwilling to give anything back to their community. $50 a year should pay to have lower cost DLC, as well as free, exclusive DLC.
Sony is going in the right direction since most multi-platform games on the 360 outsell the PS3 versions. By giving people exclusive and free content, they are enticing people (such as myself) to buy the PS3 version vs. the Xbox 360 version.

LOL. Seriously? Why not try playing it without a guide? I mean come on, even with a guide you'd still probably die a couple of times...
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 3:14PM
I'm not using a guide, as I proved when I had no clue what Johnny was talking about when he was asking me about the optional mausoleum guard or whatever. I've died maybe 4 times during 1-1 1-2 and 2-1, but the actual bosses have been cake so far.
Phalanx took a while cause I kept running from him until I thought of something to do, Tower Knight was ridiculously easy to kill (I even used melee, didn't have magic yet) as long as you avoid his shield slam and quick little backjump he does and the spider boss in 2-1 kept repeating a pattern of 2 moves so it was easy to kill him with soul arrow. I found out after I beat him I could have hid behind a wood pillar that would have blocked everything, but I didn't know that when I fought him (wish I did though, used a lot of those health herbs)
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 3:16PM
"I've died maybe 4 times during 1-1 1-2 and 2-1"
Sorry, meant to say about 4 times each. The game's about learning form your mistakes and I did. But I'm not lying when I said I haven't died on a boss yet, they've been easier than some parts of their respective levels.
incendious @ Oct 27th 2009 4:26PM
Many people can beat 1-1, 1-2, and 2-1 bosses as Royalty without dying. I guess you're lucky to have picked one of the easiest classes to play early in the game. It doesn't mean the game is easy though. You're still in the beginning stages and the game DOES get a lot harder than those bosses. 3 down, another 13 to go? Keep us updated on how "easy" you think the game is when you're at the half-way point.
killdash9 @ Oct 27th 2009 4:25PM
I seem to recall Tomb Raider: Underworld sold better on the PS3 than the XBox 360, and this despite the 360's exclusive DLC. I found that a bit odd.

My favorite PS3 devs at the moment are Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch.

Prepare to go nighty-night.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 11:59AM
Oh noes, not a downvote...whatever will I do.
In fairness Brutal Legend was registered as my free game during the TRU deal, so I didn't feel like I wasted money when I traded it in 2 days after getting it. It was a free $35, so something good came out of it!
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 27th 2009 12:01PM
You must not play many games if you think Brutal Legend was that terrible.
Freak Mojo @ Oct 27th 2009 12:03PM
Hey Tmac - So what did you not like about the game? I was thinking of getting it during this week's Best Buy sale. I returned it once already once the reviews came out and I saw what the game offered.
Just curious to get another opinion on it.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 12:03PM
"You must not play many BAD games if you think Brutal Legend was that terrible"
fixed. No I don't play the awful games that people normally expect, like vampire rain, so that's why two of the worst games I've played this year are semi-high rated ones like Infamous and Brutal Legend.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 27th 2009 12:05PM

inFamous was a blast. You have terrible taste, sorry.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 12:08PM
Ok well to get the easy complaints out of the way, it looks pretty bad for a 360/ps3 game but that's not really a huge deal.
However, the gameplay is shallow and boring. On foot you have an extremely basic hack n slash (like what the demo offered), and for the big story missions you have an extremely shallow and basic RTS. All you can do is send people to attack, call them back, or tell them to stay put. There's not much to it, and it's an extremely easy because of its shallowness. It's also only like 6 hours long.
The story was pretty boring too, although the acting is good. It's not like Jack Black mailed his performance in, but past the first hour or so it's just not a funny game anymore.
Pretty much the only thing I liked about it was the soundtrack, which is pretty amazing but you can look all the songs up on youtube. The game's a decent couple day rental I suppose, but don't waste $60 on it.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 27th 2009 12:08PM
"I returned it once already once the reviews came out "
....So, what you're saying is that you already had the game but didn't play it, but you returned after you saw that it didn't get "ZOMG perfect 10"? You shouldn't even be allowed to play games, yet alone call yourself a gamer.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 27th 2009 12:09PM
"Why would you get pissed over free DLC?"
Because it's not free on the system I buy all of my multiplatform games on?
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 27th 2009 12:11PM
Even so, it's still not affecting you any.
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 27th 2009 12:16PM
T-Mac
You don't have the game anymore so what does it matter?
Blame Microsoft for putting a price tag on everything.
