I would care if Brutal Legend wasn't one of the worst games I've played this year, but if they do this with the upcoming Borderlands DLC....then I'll get pissed :(
In fairness Brutal Legend was registered as my free game during the TRU deal, so I didn't feel like I wasted money when I traded it in 2 days after getting it. It was a free $35, so something good came out of it!
Hey Tmac - So what did you not like about the game? I was thinking of getting it during this week's Best Buy sale. I returned it once already once the reviews came out and I saw what the game offered.
"You must not play many BAD games if you think Brutal Legend was that terrible"
fixed. No I don't play the awful games that people normally expect, like vampire rain, so that's why two of the worst games I've played this year are semi-high rated ones like Infamous and Brutal Legend.
Ok well to get the easy complaints out of the way, it looks pretty bad for a 360/ps3 game but that's not really a huge deal.
However, the gameplay is shallow and boring. On foot you have an extremely basic hack n slash (like what the demo offered), and for the big story missions you have an extremely shallow and basic RTS. All you can do is send people to attack, call them back, or tell them to stay put. There's not much to it, and it's an extremely easy because of its shallowness. It's also only like 6 hours long.
The story was pretty boring too, although the acting is good. It's not like Jack Black mailed his performance in, but past the first hour or so it's just not a funny game anymore.
Pretty much the only thing I liked about it was the soundtrack, which is pretty amazing but you can look all the songs up on youtube. The game's a decent couple day rental I suppose, but don't waste $60 on it.
"I returned it once already once the reviews came out "
....So, what you're saying is that you already had the game but didn't play it, but you returned after you saw that it didn't get "ZOMG perfect 10"? You shouldn't even be allowed to play games, yet alone call yourself a gamer.
It's sad that you really believe that Brutal Legend was a bad game.I'm imagining your face when it starts racking up GOTY awards; what will you say then?
John, while I really loved Brutal Legend, I can't see it racking up Gotys in the same year that has Uncharted 2, Infamous, Killzone 2, ODST, AC2, Ratchet and Clank, and other mega hits. BTW before I get, flamed, these arent necessarily the games i think deserve Goty, but let's face it, someones going to give all of them at least one
from what I got from the demo it was at best an average game. Not one thing in it wowed me..nothing made me go holy god I need this game..I chuckled at some of the jokes but meh a renter for me..key words FOR ME..to some this could be the culmination of thier gaming live and great for them. I just dont think it was.
Wow. I play a TON of games, and I've got Brutal Legend and inFamous 1-2 this year so far. (Full disclosure, I have Uncharted 2 and Borderlands sitting at home, but won't start on 'em until tonight.) What games do you like, T-Mac?
It took me 17 hours to finish Brutal Legend on the hardest difficulty setting, with plenty of time set aside to explore the cool, interesting world the folks at Double Fine created. When I read that people finish the game in six hours, I wonder how these people have any fun with anything. What do you do, just plow straight through the main story, following the markers from one mission to the next? It doesn't sound like my idea of fun.
The writing is phenomenal and the voice-acting top-notch. Honestly, those are the two things I value the most in games. As long as the gameplay isn't broken (which it's not), that'll elevate a game significantly on my GOTY list. I'm so tired of playing games that feel like they're written for kids.

You don't have the game anymore so what does it matter?
Blame Microsoft for putting a price tag on everything.
