Football Hero mod probably the biggest 'Hero' yet
The next time your friends complain about soccer being boring, you can do something slightly more productive than silently mocking their boorish lack of sophistication. You can show them this video of "Football Hero" (after the break), which consists of soccer players kicking balls into a gigantic, vibration-sensitive screen to play Frets on Fire, a freeware adaptation of Guitar Hero's core gameplay.
Then, just for us, make sure you convince them that every soccer match is exactly like this.

Even if you throw in video games, I'm still not a fan of women's sports.
Taylor @ Oct 27th 2009 1:10PM
I think 75% of the world's population would disagree with your statement...
Orchard Pear @ Oct 27th 2009 1:18PM
Meh, you know typical Americans. They think the world revolves around them. =P
Erluti @ Oct 27th 2009 1:20PM
So 75% of the world population thinks that even if video games are thrown in, I WOULD like women's sports?
wormania @ Oct 27th 2009 1:25PM
Women's sports? I assume you only watch rugby, as that's the only "manly" sport I can think of. Although there are lots of homoerotic undertones.
the_pop @ Oct 27th 2009 1:31PM
I think he was referring to American Football, where you run around with pillows strapped to you so when you bump into someone else for whatever gay reason American Footballers run into each other for you don't get hurt.
Also, Nascar sucks.
Tiptup300 @ Oct 27th 2009 1:38PM
That was dumb.... What's more fun and something you can do at home is what I like to call Voxtar hero.
You go into rock band, put it on mic. Hook up your guitar thru an amp, (have a stomp pedal for added fun), put the mic up to the amp. Then try to match the vocals. Then if your in a solo, you can go ahead hit the stomp pedal and play the song the real way. it's really fun!
Mics @ Oct 27th 2009 3:42PM
Needs more handegg.
justinslot @ Oct 27th 2009 3:49PM
It is true, though, that soccer is considered more of a woman's sport in the United States, which has a lot to do with how consistently great our women's national team has been (two World Cups, three gold medals.) Our men's side has been gradually improving but they are still not world-class.
GoldN @ Oct 27th 2009 4:31PM
As an American, I'd like to speak for the minority of us by saying that we're not all ignorant assholes like Erluti...
Overlord_Dave @ Oct 27th 2009 4:50PM
To my knowledge the English woman's football team is doing very well for themselves as well.
And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that the British gay football team has been world champions for years. Long live the Queen! (bit of a double en tender for you to enjoy :P)
(p.s. Americans, please replace the word 'football' with 'soccer'. kthx)

This is good but now lets try that with panic attack on expert lol

ryanpaulmcgowan @ Oct 27th 2009 1:04PM
Soccer is still boring.
DomoBraden @ Oct 27th 2009 1:09PM
To watch, yes. To play, no. Soccer is one of the funnest sports, at least to me, but it doesn't seem to to work well as a spectator sport for whatever reason.
NitroMikeo @ Oct 27th 2009 2:30PM
On the TV, yh its not amazing, but when you're there in the stadium, its amazing.
Marmot @ Oct 27th 2009 5:05PM
and that's only because it doesn't stop for adverts so much.
BobGlasser @ Oct 27th 2009 1:10PM
first soccer game i've seen where not everyone fell down and pretended to be hurt.
Punkrawk Bbob @ Oct 27th 2009 4:25PM
That and your Mario avatar suggest you must be watching Italy's games then. Try France or Germany some time.
Wardo @ Oct 27th 2009 1:15PM
Perhaps this is my Brazilian coming out but I love to watch and play soccer above all other sports. No need to convince me of its greatness.
Orion @ Oct 27th 2009 1:17PM
I had such a big smile on my face when watching this. The "game 17" was amazing. 76% accuracy and they looked like they were having a blast.
To everyone making fun of them, I'd LOVE to see you out on the field getting your ass handed to you on a "women's sport".
Erluti @ Oct 27th 2009 1:21PM
I'd also get it handed to me if I tried to compete in rhythmic gymnastics.
Orchard Pear @ Oct 27th 2009 1:24PM
I imagine you'd get it handed to you in a competitive game of 'getting up off of the couch', too.
Erluti @ Oct 27th 2009 1:26PM
Whatever, son! I get it handed to me weekly in the game of basketball.
Orion @ Oct 27th 2009 1:45PM
So you suck at all sports in life, but just choose to make fun of others that run circles around you to make yourself feel better?
To each their own I guess...
tomlinson731 @ Oct 27th 2009 1:19PM
This video is awesome!

And an Activision rep is running down the hallway as we speak... papers aflutter...
He'll bust into Kotick's office, where he's rubbing gold dabloons all over his body.
"Boss, boss!" he'll shout. "I just got the best idea ever!"

Careful, pal. You might give me a bad name.

It's the most popular sport in the world, none of the American sports come close to its popularity and no American sport can match the atmosphere, passion or excitement of a football match in Europe, South America or Africa.
Peter Moore [Planeteer | Power of Fucking Your Mother] @ Oct 27th 2009 2:08PM
My favorite parts are the riots that occur after a team loses.
Atmosphere!

BTW, I like both footballs, but each have their good moments and stupid ass moments about them.

Ya... North America would never go that crazy over a sport...

Atmosphere for Soccer is is amazing. Football just has a bunch of fat guys screaming at a TV come superbowl time.

I'm not American yet Soccer bores me to tears.

I don't believe your statement unless you are Canadian, then you love Hockey.

That's soccer, not football. Jeez.
Wardo @ Oct 27th 2009 2:04PM
It's definitely more Football then any other sport claiming that name.
DomoBraden @ Oct 27th 2009 2:08PM
Stop talking now please.

That was aimed at themageling BTW, just to clarify.

Touché. Is this kinda like Skitt's law? Definitely some kind of offshoot.
NitroMikeo @ Oct 27th 2009 2:19PM
I think the Soccer/Football argument has been done enough times on this site.
Edicius @ Oct 27th 2009 2:30PM
This finally makes soccer watchable.
I think the problem with soccer as far as Americans go is that there isn't enough scoring. I've seen soccer matches where there was ten minutes of kicking the ball back and forth and never once even saw one of the goals on tv. If the field were shorter and the goals were closer together and at least on camera, then it would be more exciting. In American sports every play is a chance at a score. In American football, every snap could be a huge touchdown pass or run. In Baseball, every pitch could be a home run, and in Basketball they score on almost every possession.
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of The Hoff] @ Oct 27th 2009 2:40PM
Explain Hockey's popularity then (while not insanely popular people do talk about the Cup Playoffs).
Oh right, the punching each other in the face...
scratch @ Oct 27th 2009 3:01PM
soccer is no different. each pass could lead to a breakaway. you just never know. in well-played games of any type, there is less scoring. ever watch a very lopsided soccer match? then there is a lot of scoring.
think about baseball. how many innings go by with no scoring? are you trying to say baseball is more exciting the soccer? baseball is IMHO the most boring widely watched sport, besides perhaps golf.
greg19735 @ Oct 27th 2009 3:07PM
i think the lack of scoring makes the game more exciting. Its hard to care when someone scores a basket in basketball because it's just not important.
the best game i've seen recently is a 2-2 draw (west ham vs arsenal). and that was incredibly exciting. The fact that there was only 2 goals for each team means that when those went in, it mattered. Also, my team came from 2-0 down to get back up to 2-2. While that doesn't sound huge, it really was quite amazing.
Ipsum @ Oct 27th 2009 3:07PM
A hockey rink is much smaller then a soccer field, so I think it has to do with the puck constantly being in close proximity to the goal. This doesn't happen nearly as often in soccer, so it might not be as exciting for some people.
For the record, I like soccer.
