Majesco publishing DSi augmented reality game 'Ghostwire' in late 2010

Using the mic and camera on the DSi, as well as in-game tools like the "EMF tuner," players search around them for hidden ghosts, and then attempt to give them peace by solving puzzles. Some ghosts will require items before they appear and interact with you, and some will apparently be malevolent and less receptive to your efforts. At which point, we assume, you have to solve their problems despite their lack of help, instead of just leaving them to go about their ghostly business.

Extinction @ Oct 27th 2009 7:03PM
Just like Invizimals on PSP!
zanmushi @ Oct 27th 2009 1:39PM
lol, this seems really interesting actually - time to get your "orb" hunt on.
Shiaoran @ Oct 27th 2009 11:41PM
Let's crack down on ghosts!
Shiaoran @ Oct 27th 2009 11:41PM
I'd rather have Real: Another Edition released in NA ¬¬
Preferably for iPhone as an enhanced port.
FYI, that's a Fatal Frame spin-off for cellphones released only in Japan.

This idea has the potential to scare the crap out of your ass, but I doubt that they're going to use it in that way.
I'm thinking of the part in the 'House on Haunted Hill' when Sonya's walking around, looking through a camera and she sees surgeon's operating on someone, but in reality there's just an empty operating table in an empty room. Then she looks back in her camera and they are all staring at her.
Creepy.
Duke @ Oct 27th 2009 2:21PM
Oh yeah, that i some creepy stuff!

Wow. This is conceptually awesome.
Chief Oddball @ Oct 27th 2009 1:49PM
Awesome concept, and possibly the first game for which I'm gonna be sad I have a DS Lite instead of a DSi. :(

step 1: find a friend that is heavily supersticious.
Step 2: bring said game over go through their bedroom show them a ghost is there.
step 3: don't fix the problem.
step 4: profit

I see dead people
Wardo @ Oct 27th 2009 2:02PM
You mean I can finally be a real life Ghostbuster? Mr. Murray and I are going to be the best of friends!
Orion @ Oct 27th 2009 2:03PM
If your hand is shaking/moving, will the technology know where the "ghost" is standing so that it doesnt just feel like a layer ontop of a video of reality? Basically, if she's sitting on the bed, and you move the camera side to side, will the DS know to keep the ghost in the same spot?
Michael @ Oct 27th 2009 2:22PM
I think you're probably being a little over-optimistic about what this game will be able to do -- I suspect that the game will just work with still pictures, and will superimpose a ghost on top that won't actually interact with the picture in any meaningful way (ie. like a weatherman in front of a green screen). I may be wrong (I hope I'm wrong) but that's my suspicion.

"I think you're probably being a little over-optimistic about what this game will be able to do"
Somebody didn't watch the trailer.
Duke @ Oct 27th 2009 2:42PM
Yeah it looks like a pretty solid setup they are using. Watch the video:

Wow, I could not have been more wrong.
iofthestorm @ Oct 27th 2009 8:54PM
It shouldn't be too hard, I've seen something similar on a really old Nokia smartphone type device and it was able to track the background moving fine.

The sad thing that the guys from Ghost Hunters will probably use this game to "Hunt"
ghosts.
WAIT! WHAT WAS THAT?! WHAT WAS THAT?!
Something hot and warm is coming out the back of my pants now!
OH! IT SMELLS!

This, except most people will react the same.
chrisyz @ Oct 27th 2009 2:10PM
They should have called it 'The Legend of Ghostwire: Link to the Paranormal' instead. Probably would get sued though...

i thought this sounded like a pretty cool idea when i first heard about it, and it still seems that way. but since i have a ds lite there is no way im going to play this game. i'm NOT going to buy a dsi for this or anything else, i don't play the ds enough to justify it.
Marco le Polo @ Oct 27th 2009 3:07PM
Oh wait a second, this sounds kinda like Fatal Frame (which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet, except for the work "orb") except where you're in your own world. This sounds sweet. If I see more games like this utilizing the DSi as it should, then perhaps my Lite will get dated sooner than I thought.
Gamer4Life @ Oct 27th 2009 3:31PM
This is an interesting use of the DSi camera, I'll have to check it out when ever I can afford a DSi.
Ashitaka @ Oct 27th 2009 5:28PM
So basically Invizimals for the DS...
SoshiKitai @ Oct 28th 2009 4:33PM
Except dey ghosts!
...I doubt Invizimals would scare the crap outta' me if I suddenly saw them.
...unless they were with me in the bathroom...
...while I was taking a crap.
Dfox @ Oct 27th 2009 6:16PM
I could totally picture this in a public place. "Holy shit, there's a ghost sitting on your head, dude!"
manyquestions @ Oct 27th 2009 7:42PM
Does live video count as graphics? If so, can that debate finally be over?
Shiaoran @ Oct 27th 2009 11:48PM
If it does, it's 0.3-megapixel camera won't really help.
I bet Laserdisc FMVs look better :P

Have been wishing for more "scary" fear inducing games lately. Newer games like Dead Space and FEAR2 did get me a few times- but mostly "cheep" scares - like objects popping out. I like games that just make you extremely scared because of the atmosphere...the ones you don't want to play alone at night.
