Rumor: Capcom adapting next-gen MT Framework for Wii

Nikkei reports that simultaneous development of games across the platforms could cut 1/5 off of Capcom's development costs, and 1/3 off development time. The inclusion of those stats makes it seem like Capcom is eyeing simultaneous development of 360, PS3, and Wii games rather than Wii ports. That approach should end in better results than the "hand the game to TOSE and forget about it" approach.

What game is that screenshot from? It looks near PS3-Xbox resolution.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Oct 27th 2009 4:39PM
Looks like Lost Planet 2. Damn I'm looking forward to that game, great demo! :)
sam @ Oct 28th 2009 9:55AM
The screenshot is from the existing tools, not the rumoured Wii version (which being only a rumour, doesn't have a screenshot yet).
captainprotonx @ Oct 27th 2009 4:42PM
Will this increase the ration of Wii good games to shit games?
I'm just praying everyday to my shrine of Mario this happens someday.
DBuck_Eye @ Oct 27th 2009 5:28PM
Please sir, I want some more rations.
uncle jesse @ Oct 27th 2009 5:36PM
YOU WANT MORE?!
MRLN (The Comment God) @ Oct 27th 2009 5:41PM
Never before has a boy wanted more...

Press the Action Button to eat a Ration.
Platy @ Oct 27th 2009 4:49PM
So .. this downgrades resident 4.5 to resident 4 ? xD
[/burn]
Interesting ... i really want to see what comes from this ... maybe finaly Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo Plus for wii and Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2 for 360/ps3 ?
Mr Khan @ Oct 27th 2009 5:37PM
Tatsunoko vs Capcom wasn't made with MT Framework, though. In fact, the TvC arcade version's circuit board was manufactured around Wii architecture (old PowerPC and whatnot), so it's more precluded
No, this really only opens the door for ports to Wii, not from Wii
Platy @ Oct 27th 2009 5:43PM
That's why i said TxC TWO, not one ... but thanks for helping with the "to wii not from wii"
Not that it really matters with new games ....
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Oct 27th 2009 4:57PM
This'd been a good idea at the start...
Just saying...
nullset @ Oct 27th 2009 4:57PM
They are making it... so they can implement a proper engine for Megaman Legends III for the wii with top notch Zack & Wiki-esque presentation! I just know it! It's coming! It's been so long, but it's coming! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
iFester @ Oct 27th 2009 5:10PM
More likely to prepare for the rumored Wii HD.
Mr Khan @ Oct 27th 2009 5:42PM
Doubtful, unless you mean the proper, 8th-gen Nintendo system. But even then, they wouldn't do this just for that, since Nintendo is going to have to make some significant architectural changes this time around (even if they stick with the IBM/ATI combo, they're going to need to go multicore) that would render this whole effort futile.
guttertalk @ Oct 27th 2009 7:29PM
@Khan: I agree . . . a Wii HD will involve significant architectural changes.
This would seem, though, to knock down the idea that a Wii HD is in the offing. This isn't trivial for Capcom. If Wii HD is supposedly due in 2010 (see Pratcher), then why do this, when it would take a few months anyway to deliver games based on this framework.
sam @ Oct 28th 2009 10:12AM
Nobody except Pachter thinks Wii HD is due in 2010, do they? I mean I'd love to be wrong but right now I don't see any evidence that Nintendo are planning to launch a new console imminently.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Oct 27th 2009 5:17PM
They should have come up with this BEFORE making MH3 exclusively for Wii. :(
Autobot (Now with Vitamin D)! @ Oct 28th 2009 8:11AM
"...which states that Capcom is working on bringing an engine designed for PS3 and Xbox 360 to Wii."
It isn't exclusive, dumbass.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Oct 28th 2009 8:25AM
I'd like to snap your neck exclusively, you ugly piece of shit.
Autobot (Now with Vitamin D)! @ Oct 28th 2009 4:52PM
Good comeback, can I interest you in some smoked meat-log?
Mr Khan @ Oct 27th 2009 5:39PM
I see this as a capitulation of sorts by Capcom, finally acknowledging that Wii is a full platform in its own right, and not some secondary dumping ground (though TvC and MH3 certainly indicated their change in opinion much sooner than this)
Platy @ Oct 27th 2009 5:50PM
I know that it is not much ... but also
timed exclusivity for megaman9, resident 4, dead rising chop till drop, okami, zack and wiki, resident evil house of dead edition, spyborgs and resident 1 remake²
While most of it aren't exactly anything big .... they still show that capcom always had MUCH more love for the wii than most other big companys =P
manyquestions @ Oct 27th 2009 7:26PM
This excites me as a Wii-only gamer. On all consoles Capcom's been a virtual awesome-factory lately.
The Most Interesting Man in the World @ Oct 27th 2009 7:53PM
In preparation for the 2010 console wagglegeddon?
ColorblindMonk @ Oct 27th 2009 8:21PM
More like MT Framework Lite.
Slayer8675309 @ Oct 27th 2009 8:38PM
TOSE ported Dead Rising to Wii? Are you absolutely sure about that? Please check your facts before bashing a perfectly good developer / port house.
John @ Oct 29th 2009 9:29AM
What's with not mentioning PC? Several MT games have come to PC, and I'm still expecting Lost Planet 2 to arrive on PC in a fairly timely fashion, as I'm still feeling burned by Epic re: GoW2.
