Rumor: Roger Daltrey reveals The Who joining together with Rock Band
If Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who, has his facts straight, we could all be windmilling and smashing plastic instruments in a Who-themed Rock Band. Daltrey told The Republican when The Beatles: Rock Band was brought up that "The game, yeah, yeah, they're going to be doing a Who one next year. There is one planned." Daltrey called music "our last true great freedom."As with Green Day, it could just be a Who pack for the existing games. Whatever it means, it involves playing the songs from one of the other most influential and rocking British bands ever in Rock Band, a prospect to which we can say only one thing:
Yeaaaaaaaah!

I'm far from complaining, just wondering... how will this work, with a good number of their best songs already available?
It'd be kinda cool if it had all stuff that wasn't in the game, and then integrated your stuff on your hard drive into the game as if it was already there in the first place.
Also, it'd be cool if we could export it, or import into it.
Linkb8s (XBL: Tenku no Link) @ Oct 27th 2009 2:25AM
Because of the fact that there are already a ton of songs available by The Who (like 15 or so right?) already, I couldn't possibly imagine this being anything more than a Track Pack with Exportability functions.
Riley @ Oct 27th 2009 2:41AM
15 /= a ton, The Who has released 11 studio albums, plus some of the best live albums of all time
Linkb8s (XBL: Tenku no Link) @ Oct 27th 2009 5:01AM
By Rock Band Standards, it's considered a ton. Even though the Who have an extensive catalog of songs that would be awesome to have, many players at the moment would prefer to either A) Get more bands in the game that have yet to make an appearance, or B) Get DLC out for bands that only have a couple songs or no DLC support yet.
I too would like to see more of The Who in Rock Band, but with the current DLC format of releasing about 10 songs per week and the Rock genre being so large and diverse, 15 tracks by a single band is considered a lot (they are tied for 5th amongst bands with the most tracks in the game). Make a note there are currently 300+ bands in the game with more on the way and other bands that really badly need DLC support.
Kyle @ Oct 27th 2009 12:13PM
Linkb8s: It might be a lot in the context of the general RB Store, but look at The Beatles: Rock Band. They have 45 songs on the disc and about 28 planned for DLC albums. That's 73 songs in total! Suddenly 15 tracks from 11 albums doesn't seem like a big deal.
Linkb8s (XBL: Tenku no Link) @ Oct 27th 2009 2:50PM
Yea, but the 73 planned doesn't look nearly as large when it's not combined with the main series. Essentially those 73 tracks are part of their own stand alone game that have nothing to do with Rock Band and it's extensive song library.
As for The Who, them having their own stand alone game while already having 15 songs in Rock Band and many of those songs being some of their biggest hits would make a stand along game a bit weird. Either A) You put duplicate songs that we already have in the game thus not making the library as big as you would like it, or B) Bring in a bunch of other Who songs that may leave people complaining "Why isn't [insert song here] in the game?". That's why I think if anything this will be a track pack. It allows them to bring in a more songs, has a cheaper price tag, and it doesn't consume a week of DLC.

I just peed a little. My absolute favorite band in the whole wide world :)
Although I would be completely content on getting another enormous track pack but a full on Beatles-treatment-ish game for The Who!!??!?!
Bring it.

I am honestly tired of Rock Band. Know what I care about? Modern Warfare 2. And Oblivion.

You still care for Oblivion? Get with the times man (Sarcastically). But seriously - I understand MW2 but saying you are over a game that is younger than one of the games your not over....makes you a douche.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 27th 2009 1:28AM
I want Rock Band: Foreigner. I'd so buy that day one.

That game would make me hot blooded! :P

Well, it'd leave me cold as ice.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Oct 27th 2009 1:37AM
They already have all that Who content for Rock Band. And it's already really good.
I'd always welcome more tracks (Can't Explain and the studio version of My Generation pleeeeease), but a specific game; not so much.
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Oct 27th 2009 1:42AM
I swear to God, if a Rock Band: Nickelback ever comes out, I will kill every fucking baby seal on the planet.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 27th 2009 1:46AM
But you're Captain Planet...doesn't that kind of go against your purpose?
Philpott @ Oct 27th 2009 2:10AM
tru dat!
sonicspike41 @ Oct 27th 2009 2:12AM
Captain Planet, he's our hero. Gonna bring the seal count down to zero!
Still not sure if it sounds better with "he's not a hero", since killing every seal isn't very nice.
meatee @ Oct 27th 2009 2:13AM
Even Captain Planet can't resist the baby seal murdering power of Nickelback.
CaramelZappa @ Oct 27th 2009 2:13AM
Fuck yerself. I loves me some brokeback Nickelback. It hurts sooooo good!!

@sonicspike41: Most hilarious comment I've ever read (bringing the seal count down to zero). Thank you for making me crack up in my completely silent office, bringing looks of confusion and disdain from my coworkers. Thank you.

The Who > The Beatles
Rock > Pop
I own both Discographies. Bury me, I don't care.
Robbie @ Oct 27th 2009 1:50AM
+1
The Beatles are the second greatest band as far as I'm concerned. Of course that's my lowly, humble opinion on the matter :)
Just give me more Who. I don't care what form it is. Except for Guitar Hero: The Who. So help me god if it's fucking Guitar Hero that's releasing this... I'll join Captain Planet in the serial murders of all baby seals!
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Oct 27th 2009 10:56AM
I can't believe that you weren't downvoted to oblivion. Way for the Joystiq readers to accept a rational arguement that doesn't end with "the Beatles are the greatest band of all time."
I've never been more proud. *sniffle*
Kevin @ Oct 27th 2009 12:32PM
I don't think the Beatles were one of the greatest bands of all time musically, but they were one of the greatest of all time based on the reactions they got from people, and the way they created a massive following that's still around 50 years later.
Some of their music is amazing (I love Eleanor Rigby, for example), but a lot of it is just mindless pop music.
I'd personally love to see some Zeppelin or Floyd on one of the Rock Band/Guitar Hero games. I know it's unlikely to happen with Zeppelin, considering Robert Plant has come out saying he was against the games, but I'll still keep my hopes up.
masteraj1991 @ Oct 27th 2009 2:00AM
The Who has almost all their good songs on Rock Band already so if they are going to make a game for good classic music it should be:
Rock Band: Pink Floyd
Rock Band: Rush
or Rock Band: Woodstock
BleachMan! @ Oct 27th 2009 2:12AM
Any three of those is an awesome idea... but if there's ever a Rush:Rock Band, there will be manly tears of joy (emphasis on the manly part).
CaramelZappa @ Oct 27th 2009 2:16AM
I love the way you say WOOD!. OOH baby!!
meatee @ Oct 27th 2009 2:18AM
BleachMan... Rush: Rock Band would require at least 4 sets of Rock Band drums.
Riley @ Oct 27th 2009 2:38AM
"BleachMan... Rush: Rock Band would require at least 4 sets of Rock Band drums."
you do know Keith Moon was the guy who started the massive drum set in the first place, right? so it would be needed for a RB: The Who
Riley @ Oct 27th 2009 2:39AM
also, they don't have anywhere near all of their good songs in RB, they have the most popular ones, very rarely has The Who not made good songs
Filthy Assistant @ Oct 27th 2009 3:46AM
Still holding out for Oingo Boingo: Rock Band
Comes with 3 horn peripherals and a red wig/wifebeater/suspenders costume.

Seconded, Pink Floyd deserves a full game. The Wall is such an amazing album (as are all the others but that one is THE masterpiece).

how about
Rock Band: Led Zeppelin
Rock Band: At Fillmore East (The Allman Brothers Band)
Spartan_458 @ Oct 27th 2009 11:40AM
I would love Rock Band: Led Zeppelin, but they seem to be adamant that their songs will never be in music games, which is unfortunate, as they're my favorite band of all time.
Faceman @ Oct 27th 2009 3:59PM
Rock Band: Woodstock would be awesome.. with nudity, hippies, acid, and all!
Sly @ Oct 27th 2009 5:39PM
spartan, rob plant is the adamant one. page and JPJ are fairly open to the idea.
Dr. steve brule @ Oct 27th 2009 2:09AM
no david caruso? no purchase.
merobb @ Oct 27th 2009 2:18AM
I think the Who songs on RB already are some of the best songs to play on the game. They are all a helluva lot of fun to play and pretty much any instrument. The Who pack has been the best bang for the buck as far as I'm concerned.
With that said, I see no need for them to have a dedicated game. Their best songs are already on RB and having those songs not being on the or being duplicated on the game would just lessen the game overall.
I say no go. Track pack and that's it.

OmegaVader @ Oct 27th 2009 2:40AM
There are already a good 18 or so Who songs available for RB, through both titles and the DLC. The Who are well represented in RB, much better than most!
JeremyR @ Oct 27th 2009 2:52AM
The Who have a lot more than 18 good songs though. Until their drummer died, most of their entire albums were good. And that's not counting their live stuff, which was amazing, too.
I have to wonder though, will the instruments in it be breakable?
Riley @ Oct 27th 2009 2:58AM
Face Dances and It's Hard might not have been as good, but they are still much better than a lot of other music
also, Endless Wire definitely has songs on it that would be fun in RB
Cena @ Oct 27th 2009 2:54AM
Well, I guess it's not a question of Who...*puts on sunglasses*...but a question of When.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-
Kyle @ Oct 27th 2009 3:13AM
So now if one of my favorite bands gets their own game, I'm wondering when Jimmy Page is going to wake up and realize that perhaps Rock Band isn't completely selling out, and can artistically express their music to a new generation. Led Zeppelin deserves their own game, as their songs would undoubtedly be some of the most fun, and most likely some of the most challenging. Anyone's who's tried to replay some of the drum, bass, vocal and of course guitar solos know how amazing and fun they are.
I hope this new "fad" of band themed music games keeps up, while keeping the integrity that the Beatles version has. I'm a musician myself, saxophonist, and I don't agree with Page's assumption that Rock Band can't express music well. While playing a real instrument is harder, I can't really play with most of my friends, as they aren't musicians themselves. Rock Band is musical, fun, and can definitely give an amazing impression of music. If Page is worried about Rock Band not showing how amazingly hard some of their solos are, maybe he should play the game himself.
A little off topic, but with each new band that wants to do a Rock Band, I see the day coming closer where we may see more reluctant bands in the music game genre.
