'Splosion Man Avatar awards unlocked; delicious steaks to be distributed

Oh, right, the meat thing. In one of the greatest nonsensical partnerships in the history of civilization, Omaha Steaks has teamed up with Twisted Pixel to give away "hundreds of top-quality steak filets" to 'sploders across the nation. To register for the giveaway, just download and equip a special 'Splosion Man gamerpic, and then play a few online multiplayer matches before November 22. If you win, you get steaks. If you're vegan, you give them to us.

Just make sure your Omaha Steak Filets are properly cooked, or you will become a 'Splosion Man.

About time, I had to force my friends to play with me clear co-op locally (I am no longer friends with those people), but online was so laggy. Also, really glad the avatar unlockables are available, I was afraid microsoft changed their mind on this.
Phillip @ Oct 27th 2009 1:19PM
Are you no longer friends because of Splosion man?
Rhamsey @ Oct 27th 2009 3:21PM
Yeah, nothing ruins a friendship like someone running into the door when we havent grabbed the cake yet.
Cole @ Oct 27th 2009 12:38PM
Hopefully more games start getting awards too now.
Cj @ Oct 27th 2009 1:48PM
Agreed. I was hoping Borderlands would have something :/
Wardo @ Oct 27th 2009 12:39PM
This is great, I really wanted to finish the multiplayer but it was just too laggy at times.
litrock @ Oct 27th 2009 12:59PM
Hrm. I was hoping for a steak for my Avatar to hold. Not sure why, though.
Probably because I live in Omaha, and Omaha Steaks is about 15 minutes away.

Good start, but it's shameful that more games don't have avatar awards already (ODST, I'm looking at you!) Then again, since most of the people in Redmond who were actually making smart 360 decisions have left the company since 2005, so I'm not really surprised.
Hoffer @ Oct 27th 2009 1:06PM
I went into Splosion Man this morning to get my shirt. I didn't play multiplayer, due to lag, so I didn't get the second shirt.
Shafnitz @ Oct 27th 2009 1:10PM
I don't believe you're required to equip the gamerpic, just download it.

"CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Giroro @ Oct 27th 2009 4:17PM
YAY, CAKE!
Alex @ Oct 27th 2009 1:34PM
I guess you can't tell Omaha Steaks are complete overpriced garbage if you are already on fire
Dreaded Fear @ Oct 27th 2009 2:10PM
Avatar awards will be the only way I will get any extra avatar clothing. More games need this feature, but it does go against Microsoft's typical policy of ripping off customers. I guess we will not be seeing much of these rewards.
WMcPete @ Oct 27th 2009 2:59PM
This Omaha Steak partnership is kind of disturbing, seeing as all the steaks you see in the game are MAN MEAT.
Dafrety @ Oct 27th 2009 4:35PM
Mmmm, yummy.
Tez @ Oct 27th 2009 3:41PM
How is this frontpage material? Does this mean we're going to see news items for every Home clothing update on the frontpage? Home and Avatar stuff like this should stick to the Playstation and Xbox sections, I think.
T @ Oct 27th 2009 4:06PM
It's front page news because it's the first game to support the Awards system.
Giroro @ Oct 27th 2009 4:15PM
'Splosion man is awesome. Everything about it deserves the front page.
Home is not awesome, therefore nobody really cares about seeing it's shirts.
T @ Oct 27th 2009 4:04PM
So just out of curiosity...how do these Awards get tracked? I saw the "Awards" section in the pop-up menu (just below "Achievements").
Is there a similiar list as would be expected in the Achievements menu?
Dafrety @ Oct 27th 2009 4:37PM
I don't know, but I just had to open up the game for the glass breaking one to tick off. I assume you'll get a notification from now on, like it did when you got the theme and gamerpic.
tenor77 @ Oct 27th 2009 4:04PM
Where's the donut love? Everybody loves donuts the way I do
Giroro @ Oct 27th 2009 4:13PM
Why don't we share a few?
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 27th 2009 4:26PM
Fuck that noise, i want my avatar to BE Splosion Man!
Dafrety @ Oct 27th 2009 4:38PM
Coming soon for just 320 MS Points!
RedSonRising @ Oct 27th 2009 6:02PM
Ill buy that for a dollar! or two, or 3 if need be..
im very happy to see avatar awards finally rolling out. i doubt itll help silence the 'it should be free crowd' but i stopped listening to them months ago. broke chumps.
Tez @ Oct 27th 2009 4:31PM
Thanks for the answer, T; the article didn't state this was the first game to support it.
Tez @ Oct 27th 2009 4:31PM
I fucking hate your comment system, Joystiq.
Levon @ Oct 28th 2009 10:34PM
hey, is this the only game with Avatar Awards so far? I saw L4D2 is going to have them, but do any other games currently also have them? I googled it and it seems it's all in beta, couldn't find a list anywhere. Thanks...
