Datel working on 'remedy' for its unauthorized Xbox 360 memory units

In a letter to retailers, Datel stated it was "aware of the changes that are required to remedy this problem and will shortly release a solution in readiness for this potential update." Naturally, the company didn't elaborate on the necessary changes. Datel also didn't supply a precise release date for the updated memory units, saying only that they would be available "shortly." Still, it's good news for folks that want more memory for less-than-exorbitant prices.

these devices were specifically aimed at because of their use to modify game data and cheat or hack up your gamerscores. These guys arent fighting anything they're promoting cheating and the people who use them have the potential to ruin the online community.

and before you think its a load of bull when i say ruin the online experience, what people will do is hack up overpowered weapons for games like borderlands then flood the game with them or worse simply make malformed characters to crash people's games. I'm sure we all remember how great PSO was until the hackers flooded the game.

^thats the thing they have no intent on ever getting licensed because all their devices such as the hdd connectivity kit is all used for cheating and hacking. Cheating and having fun on your own thats perfectly fine i couldnt give a shit but its when you go into a online game and ruin the experience for everyone else. Remember the cod4/codwaw god mode online well thats was because of datel's hdd kit. Just means extra time IW and treyarch has to waste just to patch these old games up to prevent exploits instead of putting their time and effort into new games or new maps.
Datel knows and willing is promoting hacking.

I feel that the reason they didnt do that was because encryption and decryption impacts performance of loading and saving. Its a tradeoff.
Take for example the uncharted 2 beta, not only did that thing take an hour to download but you had to wait another hour just to let it install. MS simply wanted less of a barrier so for developers, and stuff like encrypting and decrypting can be handled by the developer if they feel its worth it to make the sacrifice. Instead of having it mandatory on the ps3.

I agree they should pay the licensing fees and attempt to still make it more affordable for users. But whatever analogies are used it is still the same. Do you know this company personally? Do you speak to the owner and he's like "Yeah we totally promote cheating and piracy"? No. So don't slander a company because people use their hardware for illegal means. Grow up.

I'm assuming that the way to make them work is paying Microsoft a licensing fee. Anything else could be blocked through an additional firmware update.

I wouldn't be surprised. Datel's website has a video detailing their facilities, which includes a massive reverse-engineering lab. That lab's sole purpose is to tear apart the working of devices and firmware.

I don't get why people are hating on Datel. Back in the 80's if it wasn't for them creating action replay us commodore 64 users found to be a god send considering bad tapes could take you upward of 20 minutes to load saved game files. They also created the wii freeloader so you could play region locked games. Just because people can utilize their work for piracy doesn't mean that is their sole intent. It's like saying the ability to rip a cd or movie on a computer is for the sole intent of piracy. It all comes down to what someone does with it. If their true intent was specifically geared toward criminal means, they wouldn't have lasted since the 80's.

The small update today for the WPA2 support appears to have officially broke the Datel memory unit. This pisses me off because I purchased one to move all of my game saves and my tag (I know, I could just recover it) to my new MW2 360 in the next couple of weeks. I sold my previous model to a friend, so this was the only way I could store enough data without having to purchase 2 of those rip-off "official" 512 MB cards.
Personally, I'm happy Datel is working on a remedy. As long as I can put my game saves on to my new 360, I'll be happy.

Give me a break, I'm sure you're the same people that want helmet laws, seatbelt laws, and anything else that removes the responsibility of the individual and puts it on the entire community. If a cheater is using a product to cheat, it is the individual's fault, not the company, and especially not the others who use their products in a fair manner.
