God of War III demo included on District 9 Blu-ray

If you're interested in checking out God of War 3 early, but don't want to play the first two God of Wars again, Sony corporate synergy has a solution for you! The Blu-Ray release of District 9, due December 29 (a bit later than the God of War Collection), will include a playable demo of God of War 3. Once you've played through the demo, a making-of featurette will be unlocked (for the game, not the movie).

While District 9 and God of War 3 are united in that they're both things that people presumably want to see, it strikes us as odd that this rather random collection is the first Blu-ray/game demo pairing for SCEA. The Watchmen movie and game actually related to one another in some way, and they came on separate discs.

Makes perfect sense to me. I mean, if you're not trying to make sense in the first place.

also - District 9 is a solid movie, really. They could've picked a much steamier pile to heap this demo onto.

Like Transformers, or Wolverine. Or G.I. Joe.

I'd agree with you on the first two, Alton, but G.I. Joe wasn't THAT bad.

Ok Ok I kinda enjoyed G.I. Joe in a cheesy, oh my god it's so bad, kind of way myself.

Doesn't make sense? Did you even see District 9? The amount of Sony product placing made me laugh.

Sony Pictures/TriStar has distribution rights for District 9 and SCE has the rights to
God of War. It's easier to bundle things you have exclusive rights to than something you don't, i.e. Watchmen.

Yes, I saw District 9, once. Unlike some people, I try to immerse myself in the characters and not the obscure Betamax player occupying 1/1000 of the screen.

I wouldn't think District 9 needed the extra sales...ah well.

More to the point, District 9 takes a more... thoughtful approach to portraying violence than God of War does.

I know that Neil Blomkamp is a videogame fan, and I'm sure he loves of God of War, but I'm kind of surprised that he was OK with this pairing.

Im sure he's very ok with the amount of money they possibly fronted.

Oh God, there was nothing "thoughtful" about it, it was pretty freaking gory. Probably rent it for my Dad, he was going to see it until I told him that the movie was just "alright".

District 9 was fantastic!

It was one of the best movies of the year. I'm getting this bundle for sure.

Wouldn't it make more sense to put the demo on the God of War Collection disk?

I thought I heard somewhere that they were doing that as well.

How in the hell did they get the demo anyway?
Why not release it on PSN like most titles?

The game isn't due out until March. I'm guessing this demo, or maybe a newer demo, will be released closer to the game's release date.

Thank you very much Sony, but I'll already be playing the GOW demo by that time anyway. Still you got to love the freebies.

District 9: a movie about an alien version of apartheid. Also FUCK YEAH!!! mechs.

God of War: a game about an angry man killing things in an angry fashion.

I fail to see the connection between these two products.

District 9=distributed by TriStar Pictures (Sony)
God of War III=distributed by Sony.

Also, District 9 was amazing. I would have bought this either way, but this is just sweet icing on the cake.

Interesting...I could see Sony doing this with more AAA games they have coming out....build the Hype Train by putting the Demo on Movies Disc...

while also increasing hype for the movie discs themselves, increase both blu ray movie purchases and maybe get a few people to try the demo when they normally wouldn't

exactly J, it might get people who bought the PS3 just for the BR to play games.

District 9 should come with Half Life 2... They could then hold hands and dance together in a Cloverfield...

District 9 is the best I've seen this year. Followed by Law Abiding Citizen. I think it is smart on Sony. Why not put demos on movies. I hope they market it.

Obviously you haven't seen Monsters Vs Aliens and Orphan and I heard The Proposal was great. Now, gonna see some trailers for this movie.

That is pretty awesome! I will be buying D9 for sure, but I've never been a big fan of GoW so I doubt I'd buy (just not my kinda game, thx) so playing the demo is enough to get my fix. ...and who knows, maybe I really enjoy the demo and end up buying it, but I doubt it.

Remember how many copies of Tobal No. 1 sold when it was bundled with a demo for Final Fantasy VII? Doubt that kind of hype exists for GOW3, but it'll be sure to move some units. If I didn't already have the GOW collection pre-ordered, this would be a day one buy.

Shall we not forget the very first PS3 game that bundled a blu-ray movie onto the disc, albeit not typical blu-ray quality. Way before The Watchmen, Stranglehold Collector's Edition, decent game, cool movie, all on one disc. And a PS3 exclusive no less.

District 9 and God of War are both sony makes sense to me.
Makes about as much sense as Crackdown and Halo 3 since those were both MS

So if you just Netflix the disc, you will still get the demo? Does the demo install to the HDD or can only be run off the Blu Ray disc? Why buy a movie when you can just Netflix it.
