It may not look better, but it'll probably sound better.
If this was capable of 1080p HDMI would be automatically better, but it's not.

I used to run my 360 at 1080p through component. Now I run it via HDMI. I honestly can't see any difference in the picture quality. I don't think it would make any difference.

Picture quality and audio quality probably won't be that different. I believe Netflix only streams in stereo anyways...not sure if it does 5.1 streaming. Or at least, they didn't use to, I'm not sure if it got updated to do 5.1 audio...all I really watch on it are the current week's episode of Heroes :). I have used it before quite often though, and my wife watches a lot of older movies/musicals on it.

I have a PS3 and a 360.

The Netflix streaming is pretty cool and I like it allot, but just don't get overhyped about it, cause it just has older movies and stuff that is running on cable or comcast on demand. Lot of classics and 80's movies. There are a few new
movies availible through Starz pass.

The advantage of having netflix is getting the mailer discs in either DVD or Blu-Ray.
Just remember blu-Ray is a bit more $$$ but worth it if you have a big HDTV.

So yes netflix is worth it. But the streaming is the icing on the cake, not the cake itself.

sucks. i use my friend's Netflix account to watch instant streaming since he has almost no use for it. but the PS3 disc won't be coming to me, and it'd be like pulling teeth to get him to mail it to me, even if I agreed to pay for postage (lazy, absent-minded fella).

Wonder if there will be another way to get the discs besides thru mail on Netflix.

I've been with Netflix for a couple of years, and I stream movies and tv shows to my laptop over wifi and it rarely lags.

So I'd expect the same type of performance from the PS3, and if that's the case, this is a great deal. A lot of the movies in my queue are also available to watch instantly, so I'll probably do that more frequently now that they'll be on the big screen.

Also - anyone on TWC systems prepare to be rate-shaped.... I could never get the HD quality to work through streaming netflix (even though I had their highest package in SC), but once I moved to AL this past July, Comcast has been super fast and I've been watching streaming HD ever since :)

I ordered one of these discs. I have Xbox Live, but for watching Netflix I'd prefer the PS3 for a couple reasons:

1) Better smoothing of compression macroblocks, noise reduction, etc. I use the PS3 for regular DVD's because it simply does a better job of making them look good on a big screen. It's not going to make first-gen DVD's like "JFK" look amazing, but most modern ones look great. Thus it'll likely help the highly compressed Netflix stream look better.

2) Quieter. Even without the 9-trillion-RPM DVD drive running the Xbox is still kind of load. Not so with the PS3, even the Fat.

looking forward to this. already have netflix (3 disc plan), but i don't really use the streaming because i want to watch stuff on my TV, not my computers (which are macs and so only recently got support, and only the intel one). i'll be interested to see how well it works. i may have to finally run a cable to the ps3 to ensure decent quality. havent done it since it will require some drilling and im in a rental, but i think i could do it...

I've never understood the argument that changing discs, whether it's Netflix on PS3 or a game on your 360, somehow lessons the experience. I enjoy the Netflix service on my 360 and as long as it can be enjoyed by more gamers be they PS3 or Wii I say great. If anything I think this is a win for all of us. With more consumers utilizing the streaming service my hope is that Netflix will improve the available selection for viewing online.

I also don't get the argument against paying for a gold subscription. If it was free of course that would be better, I don't think that's the issue. In my opinion, there is a clear and obvious difference in the two services. I'm constantly getting booted off of PSN (looking at you Killzone2) where as with XBL I've had it happen a handful of times over the years that I've been using the service. I'm not saying that PSN is bad, to the contrary, it's made huge strides since it's release but let's be honest, online for Sony and Nintendo was an afterthought and now they are playing catch up. If XBL was free like PSN it would still be a better service. Likewise, Sony couldn't charge for PSN if they wanted too because no one would pay for it.

Sony is a hardware company, and it shows. I've never had a problem with my PS3 and even with YLOD it's no where near how awful RROD is for MS. With that being said, MS is a software company and it shows. XBL is better than PSN. It's more efficient, more stable and I prefer the user interface. Not only that but it's obvious that online is core to the 360 experience, not tacked on.

Either way, it's a win, win situation for all involved. This is obviously going to garner a response from MS and Nintendo and Netflix is going to have to step it up now that they have a larger footprint so what's the big deal? Everyone wins. Granted, with the exception of watching blu-rays, I don't use my PS3 for other media outside of games, but that isn't a bad thing, that's called having options. Options are good.

This is sort of one of the last justifications for paying for XBL gold for me. I'm not that big an online gamer but I will cancel my gold account and start buying all my multiplatform games on PS3 is microsoft doesn't cut us some sort of break on XBL soon.

Its cool that the PS3 is getting this service but the downfall is the movie selection sucks. There are plenty of good movies and TV shows to watch but a lot of the other stuff is crap. Hopefully down the road Netfilx has as many movies "Instant Watch" as they do on disc.

Now hopefully they let silver members have access to Netflix to counter balance the free PS3 feature.

I don't know why they decided to make a disc. It sounds expensive. They should have just waited a couple months until they develop download version and THEN anounce PS3 Netflix streaming so ppl dont get anrgy fr waiting so long.

A lot of people are complaining about the choice of movies on instant streaming being crappy, but did it ever occur to you guys that Sony may put more of their movies on instant streaming just for the sheer fact that this is a tool that will further system sales? Just a thought.

I am watching a Netflix instant movie on my PS3 as I write this. I am using "PlayOn" (Google it) The quality is very good, especially in HD, and it has never paused to buffer. I also have Netflix streaming on a Samsung BluRay player and the quality is about the same. Playon for PS3 lets you browse and select from the entire Netflix Instant Library along with YouTube, Hulu, and others. Playon also works with my Wii, but the Wii is only standard resolution. Because the quality on the PS3 is so good with Playon I am confident it will be at least as good with the Netflix disk.
