Nintendo may have announced Japanese plans for the new
DSi LL first, but it's not taking long for news about other regions to come out. Nintendo of Europe confirmed to
Videogamer that the giant handheld will be released in that region as the DSi XL, in the already-packed Q1 time frame. "The retail price of the Nintendo DSi XL is expected to be higher than that of the Nintendo DSi," the statement reads. "Further details will be released soon."
The Japanese DSi LL will be available in Wine Red, Dark Brown (above), and Natural White, and will come preloaded with
Easy Meikyo Kokugo Dictionary,
Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters and
Brain Age Express: Math. There is no word yet about the color variation or preloaded software selection for the European version.

I hope its not the same price as the PSP GO
gordo @ Oct 29th 2009 10:27AM
A Wine colored video game system preloaded with math problems and a dictionary?
Sounds perfect for that really boring person on my list.
That Burning Sensation @ Oct 29th 2009 10:37AM
I'm suprised people still buy this at all.
Cody @ Oct 29th 2009 11:30AM
I want this, and I don't know why. I know those DS games will look butt ugly on those 4 inch screens, and that pen stylus is ugly as sin.... but I want.
Duke @ Oct 29th 2009 12:02PM
Wow Cody, c'mon, don't you see how they're screwing you here? They are selling you the same device you just recently bought, but now a little bigger, and you can't even see why you want it - but you do want it anyway. Hey, I got a DSi even though it had little more than the DS we already had, but I think I will sit out the rest of this generations rehashes by them.
This is why Nintendo keeps selling us the same thing in new cases over and over - because they're encouraged to do so.
Cody @ Oct 29th 2009 2:22PM
Thank you for your reply, Duke.
Duke @ Oct 29th 2009 3:49PM
You're welcome.

NO! We need the Keymaster first!
captainprotonx @ Oct 29th 2009 10:55AM
This bitch is TOAST!
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 29th 2009 12:12PM
Captain! It's 'This chick is toast!'
You combined that with 'Let's show this bitch how we do things downtown."
ScottG13 @ Oct 29th 2009 10:15AM
But what about us fat Americans? We want giant stuff, too!
(Actually, I'm still cool with my white DS Lite. )
Kelly @ Oct 29th 2009 10:26AM
I'm still cool with my DS Lite as well, but have been considering picking up one to give my mom for Christmas.
Since screen size is indeed an issue (yes, @David Black, she wears bifocals, laugh all you want) I'm going to wait until the XL is out here in the US.
It seems like a bad sales move on Nintendos part to announce something just before Christmas and then not pony it up until next year. If I hadn't heard about the XL I would have gotten the DS Lite, but now I'm going to wait. So hopefully they come through with it stateside in time for the holidays.
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Oct 29th 2009 12:37PM
You guys have pretzels and you want MORE!!!
David Black @ Oct 29th 2009 10:21AM
I'm sure that the Nintendo DSi Geriatric Edition will be confirmed soon for the US as well.
I can't wait till Nyko comes out with matching bifocals in an accessory pack.
Erluti @ Oct 29th 2009 10:34AM
So you are mad that there will be a bigger, higher-resolution screen?
Matt @ Oct 29th 2009 12:10PM
@ Erluti
Well, that bigger higher resolution screen won't do anything but stretch out the already low-res games that come on the DS. It's not like they're gonna make games that use the resolution, since they'd be incompatible with older DS's.
Erluti @ Oct 29th 2009 12:27PM
Kinda like the are going to make DS games that can use the DSi camera but won't be incompatible with an older DS?
And I still fail to see why we don't want a bigger screen?
Erluti @ Oct 29th 2009 12:29PM
Also the web browser could take advantage of the higher resolution without making anything incompatible.
bm @ Oct 29th 2009 12:44PM
Oh god, the screen is not a higher resolution, you dopes. Why the hell would it? It's not made for you, it's made for people who can't see well. What good would a higher res do for them?
bm @ Oct 29th 2009 12:45PM
Oh god, the screen is not a higher resolution, you dopes. Why the hell would it be? It's not made for you, it's made for people who can't see well. What good would a higher res do for them?
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 29th 2009 10:24AM
Is this going to be called the DSi XXL in the US?
It at least has longer battery life. That's something good to say about the larger size.
NitroMikeo @ Oct 29th 2009 10:24AM
Finnally! Something to buy in Q1 2010...
Otherwise its pretty much a ghost town.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 29th 2009 10:25AM
i c wat u did ther
McBrick @ Oct 29th 2009 10:33AM
My sarcasm meter jumped. Cool.
jekoln @ Oct 29th 2009 10:27AM
why does nintendo seem to put america down so low on their prioriities? like flippin japan only deserves different colors and hardware months and months earlier.
NitroMikeo @ Oct 29th 2009 10:31AM
Well since Europe (as SpyderTaco puts it) always gets the shaft, it seems fair that we get stuff first for once.
EvinTheSwift @ Oct 29th 2009 11:40AM
I could've sworn Europe got the Black and White DSis. You guys don't always get the shaft.
NitroMikeo @ Oct 29th 2009 12:44PM
Not just DSI's, with pretty much everything.
Dries @ Oct 29th 2009 3:10PM
Until very recently, we Europeans had to wait months on games that were release everywhere else.
We had to wait 3 months on Brawl. Three.
We've been shafted for years. Now America gets something later than us and all of a sudden it's drama all over! :P
Besides, it's not like you're actually going to spend money on this, right?
Right?
NitroMikeo @ Oct 29th 2009 3:18PM
I don't a DS/DSI and I don't ever intend to :P
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 29th 2009 10:30AM
So what's going to happen? Will Ninty be crazy enough to sell all three DS units on the market? The last time they did that was the GBASP/Micro/DS era.
This kinda says 'Game Boy Micro'-but on a gigantic scale-to me.
Zing @ Oct 29th 2009 10:30AM
Man my original DS is one ugly bastard.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 29th 2009 10:36AM
If he's electric blue, he's not that ugly.
Nigeria: Charmy Bee DF @ Oct 29th 2009 10:32AM
The 'XL' makes it sound like some side order from one of those American restaurants - Burger King immediately springs to mind. And the whole bigger thing flies in the face of the minimalism Nintendo have sought to emphasise over the past few years.
Also: 'Wine Red.' To be a marketer.
McBrick @ Oct 29th 2009 10:34AM
They've pretty much said this is a service to an older demographic. "Wine Red" fits. This isn't bigger just for the sake of making something bigger.
Mazrael @ Oct 29th 2009 10:34AM
they made it bigger?
The Mother of Sprinkles @ Oct 29th 2009 10:36AM
That's what she said.
under13warrior @ Oct 29th 2009 10:38AM
SNAP!
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Oct 29th 2009 10:41AM
*sees name with 'Sprinkles' in it. Sees comment was semi-funny.*
Do. Not. Want.
*head asplodes*
The Mother of Sprinkles @ Oct 29th 2009 10:43AM
So my son isn't very popular around here, eh?
NitroMikeo @ Oct 29th 2009 10:44AM
From someone claiming to be the mother of sprinkles, I expected better.
Duke @ Oct 29th 2009 12:04PM
Oh, he's popular in a weird hated kind of way.
under13warrior @ Oct 29th 2009 10:38AM
Maybe I'll finally buy a DS.
The Mother of Sprinkles @ Oct 29th 2009 10:49AM
NitroMikeo:
In what way?
The Mother of Sprinkles @ Oct 29th 2009 10:49AM
Meant to be a reply to NitroMikeo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NitroMikeo @ Oct 29th 2009 11:05AM
In every way :P
HappyFunBall @ Oct 29th 2009 10:51AM
Ooh. I like the brown color. I'd buy a DSi in that color. The XL DSi seems to kill the portability aspect.
Taiko Drum Grandmaster @ Oct 29th 2009 11:02AM
I hate to say it...but I really want one to go with the Q1 KORG DS 10 Plus release...
I still play the first like crazy...and even use it in sets sometimes.
wii60dsgamer @ Oct 29th 2009 11:14AM
I will upgrade my current DSi for this.
