Team17 details Alien Breed episodes structure
At the Eurogamer Expo -- in Europe! -- Team17 has revealed its plans for the episodic structure of its upcoming downloadable title, Alien Breed Evolution. It was previously revealed that the game would be released in three separate episodes, and now Team17's John Dennis explains that each episode will contain a prologue and five levels that are "much larger than they should have been." In addition, each episode contains two major "set pieces" -- large scripted events -- as well as two boss battles and a multiplayer level. Each episode should last five to eight hours.
The first episode of Alien Breed Evoluation should release fairly soon, as it was originally slated for "around October." The XBLA version will enjoy an unknown period of exclusivity before the PSN and PC versions are released.

Episodic content is bad. It just means you pay more overall, for small segments of a game. And they are rarely 'proper' games.
Sure they are some exceptions, but I would go as far as saying its lazy.

Episodes do have it's up side. If the game is terrible at least you only had to buy one part of it.

Touché

But isn't that what XBLA trials are for?

A top down episodic shooter? That is just lazy...or a purposeful rip off.

A- If you think it's lazy, go make a top down shooter.
B- It's not a ripoff, from what I've heard, it's a remake of a game they made before Worms.

i think that the word lazy is because theya re going episodic instead of releasing a whole game.
and alien breed WAS a rip off it was a rip off of gauntlet just in case you forgot

I have a hard time trusting Team17 after Box Office Bust. Yuck.

But, but, what about Worms!?

Also, Alien Breed was one of T17's best games. I'm quite excited about this version, though I'm skeptical about the boss battles.

team 17 has been living out of worms for the last 20 years, when they finally decided to create something new they created the biggest piece of crap that was released in this year, even though they are trying to forget about it, so there are a lot of reasons to be worried.
and the boss battles of the original alien breed games were a joke, as a mather of fact all the "bosses" that team 17 created on the amiga were a joke, let´s see if they finally learned a pattern different than forward, shot, go back, wait.....

Nice. I know I'm looking forward to it and glad to see it on the PC too :)
Alien Breed was a blast to play back in the day so hopefully this turns into a fun little time waster.
