COD4 on the cheap on Steam this weekend
Just in time to wring a few more sales out of Call of Duty 4 before Modern Warfare 2 hits the market, Steam is marking the game down to $23.99 through Monday. We're told that's a 40-percent savings, which we're also told is rather considerable. What we know, however, is that Call of Duty 4 is an excellent electronic game cartridge, and it's easily worth the scratch. And seriously, at this point, there are approximately only twelve people that haven't played it.
So, we'd just like to congratulate Steam in advance for the $287.88 it will rake in this weekend.

It's been out for almost two years hasn't it?
The price should be way lower than that.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 30th 2009 4:47PM
You obviously haven't seen the retail price of Heavenly Sword..

Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Oct 30th 2009 5:26PM
I paid $29.99 two years ago for it, retail, in Canadian.
finnith @ Oct 31st 2009 1:58PM
In Canada? Really?
Here Blockbuster's still selling it for $60, and it only hits $40-50 if there's a sale on.
LeMuRfArT @ Oct 30th 2009 4:45PM
i just picked this up with the buy 2 get 1 at best buy. havent played it yet.
loved CoD2 and WaW
seriousam7 @ Oct 30th 2009 4:47PM
looks like Steam is only selling 11 this weekend.
LeMuRfArT @ Oct 30th 2009 4:48PM
lol
Latin_Trident @ Oct 30th 2009 4:45PM
My grandma and grandpa haven't played it yet so those are two out of the twelve. Who else could be on the list of people who haven't played?
lexicon @ Oct 30th 2009 4:45PM
Perfect! Had WAW for PC from another steam sale, and COD4 on xbox.. always wanted this on PC for the tight graphic enhancements..
And this is further reason why not to dive into MW2 for PC until they add dedicated servers.
HedonisticKai @ Oct 30th 2009 4:45PM
before the stupid questions begin...
287.88 / 23.99 = 12
(this is joystiq, remember)
Otis Whitaker @ Oct 30th 2009 4:54PM
Waaaay too much for a game of it's age.
I'd rather just get the game on ebay or something for $10 :x
BukChoi @ Oct 30th 2009 4:55PM
well played, hedonistic
i sort of want to pick this up, sold my 360 version, apparently there are a lot of custom maps on pc?
but how is the game overall on pc(aside from the obvious controller vs keyboard mouse)
are there a lot of hackers? or the level of glitchiness?
i havent played any serious pc-fps since css.
HeXeN @ Oct 30th 2009 4:58PM
I'm one of those proud 12 :)
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) Brigade] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 30th 2009 5:28PM
Why proud? It's a great game.
JoeStillLife @ Oct 30th 2009 4:59PM
i haven't played it........i never played a single COD game.
Marek @ Oct 30th 2009 5:10PM
Bioshock for $5 less than a year after release was a good deal.
$24 for a 2 year old game is really high for a steam weekend deal.
Eggy @ Oct 30th 2009 5:11PM
Just more prove that Activision sucks. The game is more than two years old and they are still selling it at full price.
Dreaded Fear @ Oct 30th 2009 5:12PM
People are still buying it at full price...
RKN @ Oct 30th 2009 5:22PM
The hilarious thing would be because the first game allows for mods, dedicated server, etc. on the PC, that some modders transfer the levels, maps, etc. from the sequel into the first game. : )
RKN @ Oct 30th 2009 5:22PM
I meant weapons and maps. : )
rohan @ Oct 30th 2009 5:46PM
i am one of the 12 who have not played it.
fco. @ Oct 30th 2009 6:05PM
I'm one of those twelve too. I was actually waiting for a weekend deal to get it, but I expected something way better than $24. Now I'm not sure... buying it would be like telling Activision they can get away with that cheap mindset.
Niko @ Oct 30th 2009 6:44PM
Guess how much is this "deal" in Europe...
No, it's not $23.99. Not even €23.99...
Its €29.99!!! (more than $40). Nice deal... I think, I'll stay among the people who hasn't played this game yet.
sleepypersons @ Oct 30th 2009 7:03PM
I still won't buy it seeing as I'm pissed at the MW2 and they never did interest me.
deaftly (PSN,LIVE,STEAM) @ Oct 30th 2009 7:29PM
Traded it in a while ago for 360, for that price I'll def get it again on steam. Still one of the best games of this gen if not ever.
Dustin @ Oct 30th 2009 7:47PM
I just bought it.
Alexisonfire @ Oct 30th 2009 9:28PM
Still not low enough for me to consider purchasing it.
sinai @ Oct 30th 2009 9:49PM
Team Fortress 2 for $2.50 for like, ten more minutes...
matahtak @ Oct 30th 2009 10:06PM
At least this version has dedicated servers.
liquid @ Oct 30th 2009 10:59PM
29,99€ Thanks, but no thanks. Thats ~45$ lol.
Bearxor @ Oct 30th 2009 11:09PM
Haven't played it and not going to for that price. Needs to be $15 for me to consider. $10 to qualify as an instant purchase.
liquid @ Oct 30th 2009 11:12PM
Also, is it just me or 40% out of 49.99 is NOT 29.99? lol
Slashee the Cow @ Oct 31st 2009 1:57AM
Some things worth noting:
It's on special for $29.99 US in Australia ($49.99 usually).
If you think that's high (which, considering the age of the game, it is), then try buying Modern Warfare 2 on Steam in Australia... it's $89.99 US dollars. Which is completely ridiculous.
Also worth noting: I'm one of the 12 people who haven't played it, and Ive no intention to buy it now.
In summary? Bobby Kotick is a dick.
t_m @ Oct 31st 2009 9:46PM
As i'm cheap and anti-social, i still can't bring myself to pay that much. I only want the SP campaign, which i heard is really short...
Gervin @ Nov 2nd 2009 2:35PM
See, they are stupid. I wanted a decent multi-player game for my new PC.
MOD:MR was going to be it, expecting a MUCH lower cost for an older game (especially right before release of it's sequel). I would have paid $15 for it, ($10 or less without even thinking about it).
Oh well, time to fire up a bit-torrent client and use private multi-player servers.
Oops, did I say that. (Read in your best Steve Erkle voice).
