Well, based on how expensive the Kindle is compared to its competitiors....this will make the PSP Go look cheap in comparison.

"Such a move would definitely expose more DSi (and DSi XL) buyers..."

I don't think that feature could be enabled on the current DS system... it sounds more like a feature for when Nintendo releases the DS 2.0.

Unless they've been hiding 3G radios in the DSi, no, they'd have to have an add-on or a new system.

Wait, you say they got rid of Slot 2? Guess no add on.

This would either be a new DS or DS Advance.

Well... I hope it's true... free 3G plus Tegra, it would be an awesome portable system.

Yes... check the lists (sort the PSP list by WiFi)... the DS has the double of games with online play.

There is no use for 3G on the DS except for DSiWare and the crappy DS internet.

Do you have a DS?

Because to be honest, online play on the DS is actually pretty good... there are a lot DS games with online play (there are way more online games on the DS than on the PSP)... it's lag free and some of the games support voice chat with the built-in mic.

Oh shit I forgot about online play. I do have a DS, but if Nintendo puts 3G on the DS it might be around the same price point of the PSPgo. Ninendo should put 3G in their next gen handheld.

And who is going to pay for the 3G? What server provider will it use?
3G in a handheld would be a terrible idea.

The only one I've played online is Tetris DS, which was a extremely fun and worked very well (as long as you don't come across any cheaters). The main problem is that i don't use WEP anymore, so it won't work with my router. And since it's the game itself that determines what encryption it will work with, I'm still SOL if i decided to pick up a future iteration of the DS. Not that it matters, since i can't use it now anyway, but it kind of sucks knowing that a huge feature will be useless if i decide to pick up any older games in the future.

Klepto got voted down, but those are perfectly legitimate questions. One of the main reasons for the Kindle's high price is the inclusion of the 3G service without a monthly fee. And it's mostly meant to be used to browse the store and buy things. There's no online gaming and the Kindle isn't a meant as a day-to-day web browser.

If 3G is ever included in a handheld I'd guess that it will only be used to connect to the online store. If it allows for game or general web browsing I'd expect it to also include a monthly fee.

Fernando, I love my DS, but online play is a pain in the arse. Sure, the PSP has half the online-enabled titles, that doesn't mean the DS's online titles are worthwhile.

Mario Kart DS was about as good as it got, and I gave up on that after a short while.

The PSP is capable of Bluetooth tethering, which is a start I guess.

Let me see.... put 3G capability in a portable GAME machine, let it connect to the internet FOR FREE, but NOT letting it being used as a mobile phone.... I can see the logic in that.

Why are people talking about online play?

This sounds like it'd be strictly for downloading games, not playing them.

@makimak22: Technically a portable game system with a 3G connection to the internet and a built in microphone IS a mobile phone. (they could just put skype on the DSiWare)
