Prince of Persia movie trailer looks ... kind of good
99
The first official trailer for Jerry Bruckheimer's The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is now up for all the internet to see [update: we've added our embedded version above -- and read our in-depth analysis right here]. The long and short of it, it actually looks pretty good. Of course, the trailer is comprised mainly of quick cuts of action and narration filled with cliched adventure story tropes. Then again, as a video game adaptation, maybe that's to be expected.
Still, there doesn't appear to be anything overtly awful just yet, so the hope is still alive. If Bruckheimer can turn a theme park ride into a successful film franchise, maybe, just maybe, he can do it with a game too.

When they spoke about taking the dagger to some temple it looked like it had a bit of Warrior Within flavouring, too.

The Trailer looks very good IMO, regardless if the movie is a hit or sucks, I'll still see it in theatres because of the trailer. If for nothing else, Im a huge fan of the SoT,Two Thrones, Warrior withing and this gens PoP. It does look look like an imitation of most Sci-Fi's post LoTR, but as long as im entertained watching it, I'll be happy if they stay true to the story, even if that means leaving my brain at the door.
Hopefully the trilogy will get released on XBLA/PSN before the film comes out, I owned them on XBoX and they still remain my most favored games of all time, until The Big black box's power supply died out out on me :(

Doubt it....taking the dagger "to the secret guardian temple" is just a tit bit too cliche for most moviegoers.

Yeah, the line about the "secret guardian temple" made me cringe.
That, and the absurd lines that I think were trying to reinforce sexual tension.

You mean the flirty back and forth? That's to attract chicks. They eat that shit up. Back me up, Saria.

Trailer wasn't bad at all. Some camera pans were used oddly, but overall..solid 8/10

Well it looks good to me. And what's the harm in keeping an open mind? If it's good then enjoy it, if it's not then accept it.

For me, it wasn't just like watching it, it was like watching it getting the T-Shirt, and watching the same bits over and over and over and over.
Oh, and you know whats going to happen.
They should do this as a film.

Hmm, I think the number of 'we're totally not in love' witty banter lines was a tad high, and I'm positive I'm going to be sick of what's-her-name by the end of the movie. All in all, this trailer reminds me a little too much of alot of OTHER trailers I've seen for video game movies that blew. I don't have high hopes. Sorry, Jerry.

Jake Jyllenhall seems autistic, and that's awesome. I always imagined the prince as being slightly retarded, what with wearing a white jammy and how he keeps humping walls when he tries to climb up a ledge.

First video game adaption that might actually be good? Could this be to video game movies what Halo was to console FPS's? I guess we'll just see.

Mortal Kombat was good 14 years ago. Silent Hill was good 3 years ago. We've had good video game movies before.

I guess that depends on what your definition of "good" is.
I liked Mortal Kombat when I was a kid, I can still watch it now and nostalgia, but as far as it being a well made movie, it definitely is not. I've never seen the Silent Hill movie so I can't really comment on it, but I have heard a lot of negative things.
As far as I am concerned there hasn't really been a real solidly made and engrossing video game movie yet.

Silent Hill was good? I must have watched a different movie. Just because Sean Bean was in it doesn't mean it was actually good.

It looks OK, a decent action film, but I think they are sailing a FailBoat, look at all the other VG Movies, Silent Hill? Facepalm. Doom? Hell No. But I am judging a movie that didn't come out yet, we will see if this is a Shawshank Redemption, or a Winnie the Pooh's Halloween.

I think Silent Hill was okay, but then again, as long as you throw some seriously messed up stuff in there, you're pretty much on the right track. And they had burnt screaming children and that janitor guy. So, not bad.
Doom would have been GREAT if it had any resemblance to being Doom. (I imagine they had to scrap the plot because Hell is, evidently, a touchy subject. So no Cube artifact, no teleporter filled with eyes, and no Cyber Demon in a twisted fiery hell-scape. No, it's just genetic mutation!)

I don't know what you're smoking, Silent Hill was awesome. It worked both as a standalone horror movie, and as a faithful videogame adaptation. It helps that it was co-developed by the Japanese creators of Silent Hill, with its score being done directly by the composer for the series.

God, now I've started thinking about Resident Evil: Apocalypse again. I have scars that will NEVER heal from that. They had Nemesis CRYING. He isn't even supposed to one of those eyes! What with it being SEWN SHUT, and the other being COMPLETELY WHITE! F***ing KUNG FUing zombies! Messing with canon, and s**! So damn ANGRY!

Anyone else think it looks like they took alot of camera shot ideas straight out of Assassins Creed?

To be fair, Assassin's Creed was clearly influenced by the Prince of Persia trilogy, so either this is PoP returning the favor to AC, or it's PoP taking influence from PoP, with Assassin's Creed stealing some of the glory in-between.

I am hoping that this done well enough for people to think that an Assassin's Creed movie would be a good idea.
