For what it's worth, if you've seen the comparison screens and videos from the Japanese versions the Xbox 360 version would be well worth the extra $5. And yes, if it were the other way around I'd buy the PS3 version instead.

Perhaps this is all a grand experiment in fanboy detection.

Gamestop lists both versions with a "Price Drop - Old Price: $59.99 Save $5.00". However, only the PS3's price was changed.

Let's clear a couple things up here:

1) The only person who suffers from offering the game at lower than MSRP (in this case $59.95) is the retailer itself. It has no bearing on the developer or publisher who sells the game at a wholesale price to retailers.

2) Any game that has superior graphics on the 360 vs the PS3 is because of developer ineptitude regarding coding for the PS3 and porting, NOT a weakness in the hardware of the PS3. The PS3 is notoriously difficult to develop for, and therefore many developers opt for a cheap port for $$$$ rather than actually spend time on a polished port. Naughty dog has shown what the PS3 can do if you actually hire talented people...

From the articles I've read regarding Bayonetta's production cycle, it seemed like the PS3 port was done at the last minute with the developers shipping the whole source code to Sega instead of working with Sega in parallel from the very beginning.

I could be wrong on how the Bayonetta port was handled but at the moment, I don't see a reason to blame Sega over the porting issue since they were given the source code pretty late in the development cycle.

It's probably not the best move by Sega or the development teams involved. If more time was given to ensure that all versions of the game held up to the exact same quality standards we wouldn't be having this discussion now. More often than not publishers have full control of time frames and release dates. They probably felt that they could maximize their profit by releasing the game the way it is regardless if the quality suffered from one platform to another.

Take Ghostbusters for example. So the PS3 version was less detailed or lacked the visual sharpness found on the 360 version. Those small cosmetic problems paled in comparison to broken and really uninspired design overall (critique scores are out there to back that up so I'm not trying to step on the toes or opinions of all of you who enjoyed or liked the game). Then to try and make things better a patch was released for the PS3 version to "up" the graphic detail. That's pretty sloppy in my opinion. What I think the problem is is that too many publishers are willing to put out less than perfect products just so they can make money faster. If there's a problem they'll just "patch" it later. It's sad but true. I'd be willing to bet that Sega had initially intended for Bayonetta to be out for the holidays and found that the quality would suffer even more had they really pushed it to be so. Now what we're getting is a game that already has a tarnished reputation before it even hits the market. Not a good way to sell yourself especially if you want people to feel confident in buying your products.

It doesn't look particularly worthwhile, regardless of host system or price point. Call me a cynic.

Skewed Perspective's right, the 360 version's only 54.99 at Gamestop when you click on the actual product.
As for the difference in versions, I agree that it's not that big. IMO people are just exaggerating it to feel better about their choice of system, which is silly because I don't see anyone caring. You've got a 360? Good for you. You've got a PS3? Good for you. Now get back to playing games.

It's really not a big deal. It's jut that for those of us who own both systems, it's nice to know which one is going to be better, even if the difference is slight.

By the time I get caught up playing the games I already have, this game will be $20 either way so it's really a moot point for me, personally.

Uh... This had better not be because SEGA has deemed it impossible to work through it. SEGA has time to keep at it and really improve the game. Its possible to do. If they can't make the release in January, then SEGA needs to delay it longer until they can build it to get it right.

They ought to be talking with Tecmo about the port as Tecmo did a great job with the port of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. If SEGA's decided to just release the NTSC version the same, then its not gonna be worth their time or the wait. They need to buckle down and get to work. This not only effects their name, but the name of the PlayStation 3. SEGA did great in development of Condemned 2: Bloodshot (had some frame issues, nothing too serious but better graphics than 360) and Valkyria Chronicles was excellent. Even the Sonic Unleashed game ported well. I'm finding it difficult to understand why they're struggling here.

You're expecting good things from Sega? They've not done anything worthwhile since the DC died. (sigh)

Really, if anything, based on Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2's port, and what's said about the games looking equally as good on both consoles, the PlayStation 3 is capable of better lighting and better textures if used properly. And this is a big difference. Again, Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma was ported right. That being said, the fact is, that if the game is multi-platform, it should look better either way on the PlayStation 3.

I also feel that the Xbox 360 limitations hold the PS3 version back. The Blu-ray has so much more memory to work with. Nothing should have to be compressed like with the Xbox 360 or constrained by the size of the media. The Blu-ray can hold a lot! But developers never use that advantage, they just copy and paste to the Blu-ray. Not fair to those who own a PS3. The port should look better and play better on the PS3 with a lot more bonus content.

As it was with my XBOX vs my PS2...so shall it be for my 360 vs my PS3.

All multi-platform titles shall goto my 360....until more of my friends actually get a PS3 or that a multi-platform title actually gives me a realistic incentive to get it on PS3, or if the PSN online multiplayer ever gives me reliable connections and required in-game voice chat capability for every game.
