Rumor: Gran Turismo 5 to feature track editor

The site E4G reports that Gran Turismo 5 will include a very exciting option: The ability to create your own tracks or edit the existing tracks. Eurogamer checked in with Sony to confirm this new feature, and, while Sony refused to confirm the news, the company also refused to deny it, in a carefully worded statement that makes the news suddenly seem more plausible: "We haven't confirmed this and aren't offering any other comment at this time," Sony told Eurogamer.

We contacted SCEA but have yet to hear back, so this rumor is going to have to remain a rumor. Hopefully we'll find out before the game comes out, although Sony also has yet to announce the release date beyond a possible "early 2010." Okay, we'll simplify the whole thing: Gran Turismo 5 is an unconfirmed rumor.

That doesn't really do anything for me. I'd much rather them take the PR blow and copy the painted car thing and auction house from Forza. I saw an awesome Mass Effect 2 car on neogaf and I'd love to drive that around....but I don't want Forza.

So wait giving a game infinite replayability though the ability to create and share tracks doesn't give you any excitement compared to the ability to put images on your car.....

I mean to each their own. But give me an infinite number of tracks over a paint shop anyday.

No, just like playing some random person's (awful) custom songs on Guitar Hero doesn't do it for me either. I'd much rather play the professional ones.

While I agree that would be cool tmac, why so negative? This is a pretty cool feature also and not something you would get in most racing sims.... or any racing sim(that I know of). Adds a lot of replayability too.

I'm not being negative, I simply said custom tracks doesn't do anything to get me excited. I'm still getting the game, unless it's intruding on god of war 3's space.

Well, as you just successfully proved...I don't like the people who develop it or who they try to sell it to. Way too douchy even for my tastes.

it must tear you apart to think that more than one racing sim can accurately emulate driving.

and i'm excited for GT5, but i'm pretty sure that no one here has played GT5 yet, so don't go acting like you know how it handles.

To elaborate on that, MS tries too hard with some of their games to appeal to that frat boy fanbase. They do it with Halo, and they did it with Forza 3. Like back at E3 their biggest thing was "look at this shit bro, you can flip the motherfuckin cars! that's tight as hell dawg!"

They're trying too hard to be cool over making a decent game. That's why GT has always been on top and will still be when 5 comes out.

Stop it freaks, Forza and GT are both amazing. Quit ragging on each other.

That said, half the work in these games is track memorization. This will add near if not total unlimited gameplay. Especially if you're playing Forza 3 now. I already own all forzas and console GTs and I plan buying this too.

It's unfortunate that instead of enjoying the game for what it is, you seem to have made some sort of determination as to what kind of person plays it.

Forza is the racer for the average Joe.
GT is the racer for the caviar-eating snob.

When I read the headline I immediately thought of Excitebike, and then I scrolled down and my head exploded.

a cool idea, but i'd wait to see how they implement it first. they'd have to make it friendly enough for people to not get frustrated with, but in-depth enough that hardcore players could do some crazy stuff with.

If this is true and the reason for the delay, then I am willing to well wait!
If they can add in the ability to select the backround it would be awesome, especially if you can upload them and have others download your tracks.

Ummm has anyone ever read E4G? i wouldn't trust any of these rumors, let alone anything from the site. it seems like E4G is written by idiots.

I agree with Kenny here, not saying this is not cool btw. Just saying that two sites are just feeding of each other. Like I said, I would love it and it seems possible seeing as how Blu ray can store tons of data. I HOPE they have the picture taking feature, I would take endless pictures in GT4 and would transfer them on a USB to show off my pic skills ( not really skill, it was the good looking cars) lol
