Rumor: Gran Turismo 5 to feature track editor

We contacted SCEA but have yet to hear back, so this rumor is going to have to remain a rumor. Hopefully we'll find out before the game comes out, although Sony also has yet to announce the release date beyond a possible "early 2010." Okay, we'll simplify the whole thing: Gran Turismo 5 is an unconfirmed rumor.

I don't know how technically good it is, but I know it's chock full of happy. I'm going to go play excitebike now.
tobz1000 @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:15AM
Hah, I didn't even notice that was shopped before you said!

That doesn't really do anything for me. I'd much rather them take the PR blow and copy the painted car thing and auction house from Forza. I saw an awesome Mass Effect 2 car on neogaf and I'd love to drive that around....but I don't want Forza.
David @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:14PM
what? that makes no sense.
"man this game looks great and has all these features that i want to try out but i don't want to play it."
Menchi @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:14PM
So wait giving a game infinite replayability though the ability to create and share tracks doesn't give you any excitement compared to the ability to put images on your car.....
I mean to each their own. But give me an infinite number of tracks over a paint shop anyday.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:15PM
You people have yet to realize that tmac doesn't like anything.
He'll bitch about kids with cancer if it ever becomes a Joystiq article.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:16PM
@David
Having one admittedly small thing I like isn't enough to sway me. I don't like the way Forza controls or plays.
@Menchi
No, just like playing some random person's (awful) custom songs on Guitar Hero doesn't do it for me either. I'd much rather play the professional ones.
SpaceFox @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:16PM
While I agree that would be cool tmac, why so negative? This is a pretty cool feature also and not something you would get in most racing sims.... or any racing sim(that I know of). Adds a lot of replayability too.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:18PM
I'm not being negative, I simply said custom tracks doesn't do anything to get me excited. I'm still getting the game, unless it's intruding on god of war 3's space.
John @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:23PM
"I don't want Forza"
Why wouldn't you want the best racing game of the year besides controls you can't handle?
David @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:25PM
"I don't like the way Forza controls or plays."
....so you're saying you don't like realistic driving?
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:25PM
Maybe because he's a GT fan? Is it so unreasonable to like the features but not like the game?
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:26PM
@David
Gran Turismo: The Real Driving Simulator.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:26PM
@John
Well, as you just successfully proved...I don't like the people who develop it or who they try to sell it to. Way too douchy even for my tastes.
David @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:28PM
darth:
it must tear you apart to think that more than one racing sim can accurately emulate driving.
and i'm excited for GT5, but i'm pretty sure that no one here has played GT5 yet, so don't go acting like you know how it handles.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:29PM
To elaborate on that, MS tries too hard with some of their games to appeal to that frat boy fanbase. They do it with Halo, and they did it with Forza 3. Like back at E3 their biggest thing was "look at this shit bro, you can flip the motherfuckin cars! that's tight as hell dawg!"
They're trying too hard to be cool over making a decent game. That's why GT has always been on top and will still be when 5 comes out.
LegendaryRedass @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:31PM
Stop it freaks, Forza and GT are both amazing. Quit ragging on each other.
That said, half the work in these games is track memorization. This will add near if not total unlimited gameplay. Especially if you're playing Forza 3 now. I already own all forzas and console GTs and I plan buying this too.
Mez Jr @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:38PM
It's unfortunate that instead of enjoying the game for what it is, you seem to have made some sort of determination as to what kind of person plays it.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:47PM
Forza is the racer for the average Joe.
GT is the racer for the caviar-eating snob.
Sound better?
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:48PM
Replace average joe with frat boy non gamer and you pretty much nailed it Bradwart
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:55PM
Thanks.
*opens jar of caviar*
Mmm...
Massmass @ Nov 2nd 2009 8:10PM
I thought frat boys just got laid and drunk?
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) Brigade] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 2nd 2009 8:22PM
@Massmass, you didn't go to college, did you? Sure there is tons of alchohol and "bitches", but the majority is gaming, believe it or not.
the_pop @ Nov 2nd 2009 11:17PM

This would be fantastic news, hopefully they will let you share user created tracks online since I'm sure I'll be too lazy to create my own.
JayP @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:29PM
Hoping that it leads to my favorite local tracks on GT5...
There are plenty of talented, unemployed track rats for the job.

David @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:15PM
a cool idea, but i'd wait to see how they implement it first. they'd have to make it friendly enough for people to not get frustrated with, but in-depth enough that hardcore players could do some crazy stuff with.
1251 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:16PM
Forza, consider yourself served.
Space @ Nov 3rd 2009 12:03AM
It's funny, I remember people saying the same thing when forza TWO was coming out.
And now Forza 3 will have been out for a year by the time GT5 releases.

Oh god, I can't wait to drive on penis shaped tracks...
1251 @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:21PM
it's gonna be awwwwwwwwwesome!
Scruss @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:23PM
I hope this isn't true. Why can't developers focus on one thing and do it really well? Why are gamers so hellbent on having a ton of features that are halfway decent?
Hynad @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:30PM
Yes, moron, because 5 years+ of development can't possibly let them do this feature really well..
Clavius @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:33PM
If this is true and the reason for the delay, then I am willing to well wait!
If they can add in the ability to select the backround it would be awesome, especially if you can upload them and have others download your tracks.
ChuckBartowski @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:33PM
I'm pretty sure that Kazunori Yamauchi himself is an unconfirmed rumor.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 2nd 2009 7:34PM
No, I saw him at E3. He's real.
Unless Sony has some REALLY good holographic projectors.
Hedgeson @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:47PM
They DO have holographic projectors! Didn't you see that rotating 3D screen they developed ?
Lionbacker @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:53PM
Oh, you saw him at e3 too? He looked photoshopped to me. Something about those artifacts didn't seem right...
