A megamix of minimalist game remakes

This is the most abstract we've ever seen many of these games, but even without the audio, it would be easy to identify the sub-Meggy Jr. interpretations of our favorites. Although we were briefly confused by what we thought was supposed to be Gitaroo-Man -- until we realized it was Gitaroo-Man's "Legendary Theme" being played in Guitar Hero.
Now we can only hope that someone runs with the idea and delivers some playable versions of these games. HD is played out -- we're ready for Sub-Standard Definition.

Something tells me this would make a lot more sense while on acid.
briankun @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:29AM
Appears that someone's already on the crack.
Extinction @ Nov 3rd 2009 12:34PM
That video was retarded. None of those were "recognizable"
Enosoma @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:14AM
Interesting. Best part was Sonic.
Cam @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:16AM
rock band one was funny

Coming to a microwave oven clock display near you, Crysis.
Stupidiot @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:49AM
To be honest I'm surprised EA hasn't already ported the Sims to microwaves. After all, everyone knows a woman's place is in the kitchen.
Jack @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:18PM
@stupid
That was offensive on about 3 levels as far as I could tell. And I loved everyone.
ShadowOp @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:35AM
Possibilites are endless, and really really simplified! I love it. Hope they do more.
Azerael @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:39AM
Can anyone actually tell what's going on in any of those? Only one that made any kind of sense was the Guitar Hero one >_>
Hyams @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:22AM
Last one is Final Fantasy 8 (Squall and Rinoa's dance).
Sonic the Hedgehog is the other one I recognised. There's a lot of blue in it.
DomoBraden @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:01AM
Now I wish my parents would have sent me to military school... HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?!
MT @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:28AM
I liked the FLower one
Ghost_Crisis @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:58AM
I'm glad someone else got it. lol
J.Goodwin @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:05AM
Doom turning into a pixely mess as the Pinky attacked was brilliant.
Dr Scientist @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:11AM
I want a Gitaroo Man sequel =[
inford @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:52AM
Just came across your blog. Continue to explore ego.Mnogo written about the game

Stood in firelight, sweltering. Bloodstain on chest like map of violent new continent. Felt cleansed.

Now just sit right there, and let me tell you about how I became the fresh prince of Belair.

Take out map. Look at map. Put map away. Take out torch. Light torch. Move forward. Take out sword. Swing sword. Swing sword. Take out herb. Eat herb. Move forward...
Nick Dunn @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:07AM
Very entertaining - it really makes you realize how important sound design is to a game, as well as palette choice. Doom was instantly recognizable by the pink demons and sound of the door opening; I wonder if the majority of first-person-shooters today would fare as well? I would think not.
I would have liked to see a Diablo one, not sure how they'd convey that though.
Darth Bradwart, Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:07AM
I doubt it. Maybe the sound of a plasma grenade in Halo, but most shooters don't rely on sound the way Doom did. It's a shame.
Vidikron @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:03AM
It's because many shooter today are based on real life weapons and such. So there's nothing to make them standout as individually recognizable. But I'd wager that many scifi-ish shooters would be recognizable.
Darth brings up Halo, but there's a lot more than just the way the plasma grenades sound. Think about all the voices and sounds the Covenant and Brutes make. Or the way the vehicles sound... especially the Banshee.
Stupidiot @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:41AM
Hell, in the original Halo even many of the guns sounded rather distinctive. Find me anything else that sounds like the MA5B assault rifle.
martyfarty389 @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:24AM
Why didn't they do Zelda!? Clearly they were not thinking straight when they made this. Also, I highly doubt we could tell what each section of the video refs to without the audio, it would just look like a bunch of squares lighting up. (Which is what it looks like anyways)
Lurkero @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:05AM
Next time they should probably use at least 30 pixels. Maybe then you can actually make some of that stuff out.
And how dare they defile Gitaroo-Man by associating it in any way with Guitar Hero. Gitaroo-Man is a real rhythm game, not some poser music game.

Anyone else experience a shipping delay on SW:TFU Ultimate Sith Edition from Amazon?
It's odd, because I paid for release-date shipping on that one and it's being delayed, but I only paid 2-day on Dragon Age and it's coming today...
Oobgarm @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:09AM
So we have Street Fighter II, Parappa the Rapper, Punch Out!!, World of Warcraft, Sonic the Hedgehog, Outrun, Flower, NobyNoby Boy, Gitaroo Man/Rock Band/Guitar Hero, Gauntlet, Doom, and then something I can't quite figure out.
ChomskyKnows @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:15AM
I can see pixels from my house...
xtremeholymuffin @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:32AM
WTF? They remade the docking scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey!
That's not a game, but it IS awesome.
xtremeholymuffin @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:35AM
Oh no wait, it's from Elite. They remade the sequence in the game.
Jeff Ramos @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:55AM
Incredible. I would've love to have seen Rez.
343 Guilty Fart @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:21PM
Wow, that was pretty brilliant.
fuzzynyanko @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:39PM
I wonder if any of those games are playable
Liquid man @ Nov 3rd 2009 11:14PM
I recognized punch-out, street fighter, and sonic......everything else was just a blur
