GameStop: PS3 sales remain 'very strong' post price cut

For a moment, let's ignore the billions Sony has lost on the PS3 so far and focus on optimism for the future. GameStop executive vice president Tony Bartel notes that momentum for the console has maintained a solid sales pace following Sony's most recent price drop and hardware remodeling.

Bartel tells IndustryGamers that there was a natural surge after the initial announcement of the price drop months ago and that the retailer has seen "very strong" PS3 sales through October. He didn't reveal specific data, though, and we'll have to wait and see if his claims are reflected in the overall October hardware sales figures released by the NPD later this month.

I got mine near launch for 299! ... then again EBgames did take 14 of my PS2 games in the process. most of which I re-bought... maybe I didn't do so well, but at least I have PS2 backward compatibility for those re-bought games :)

I got one of the Launch 20GB ones day one. Such a rare system, only one without wifi, and the only one that is solid black. Did the drive upgrade though, 250GB for me, otherwise it would be painfully filled. Still runs to this day fantastically.

Hey, while at the time I never would have paid $599 for a console that had no games I wanted, I have to hand it to them. The people who sat in line launch day are the ones laughing now. They're the ones who got linux, proper BC, more usb ports, and memory card slots. Those of us who payed less for the console, got less.

i got my 60 GB full BC model just after they announced the drop to $500 to clear them out. best decision evar! i have since upgraded to a 320 GB HDD as well. still running strong, no signs of failure. =)

Yeah I got mine not to long after launch with the 5 free blu-ray movie deal. The first game I downloaded was Pain (I think) and the first disc games I bought were Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Rainbow Six Vegas. It's come a long way since then hasn't it?

I've gotten 3 versions.
The original 60GB for $500 on craigslist
sold that for $500 to buy the 40GB MGS Gunmetal Grey PS3...which I regret seeing as Amazon had these "limited" bundles a few months later for $300 less.
Bought a second PS3, when CircuitCity.com was selling the slims for $250.

I got the MGS bundle too I only had a wii before and I was waiting and waiting for nintendo to put out some quality games but it's like they had a freaking drought there was just absolutely nothing good for the longest time so I just caved in and bought A Ps3 after never owning a sony system before and its fantastic probably my third favorite system ever just behind the snes and n64 I also released my hate for the ps2 was so stupid after playing some of the series everyone was talking about like MGS, SOTC, GOW, etc. although prime 1 is still my favorite game of last gen :P

People who don't have a ps3 would still vote in this poll to show what percentage of people do not have nor plan on getting a ps3 in comparison to those who have or will get one. It shows if there is potential for new sales as those who are voting there still remain to be convinced in getting one.

I would trade in my wii for a ps3 but there are a few games I would actually like to play on the wii. on the flip side, my wife said I can buy a ps3 (cuz she got an iPhone) so I will take her up on it. The thing is, I'll most likely be playing the 360 a lot more often. I'll most likely on play ps3 exclusives on the ps3.
